Good review, best bit:
"(and when you look at what people should have copied from The Fall, you realize they all missed the point anyway)"
the link took me to Wilco rev, but the Fall rev was findable.

Does anyone in the States actually own these re-releases? If so, where did you get them?

I had my local shop order them. BUT, even though I was pretty clear about which versions to get, they got the wrong one of Grotesque so I do not have the MES self-interview bit and I'd like to get a copy of the newest re-ish of this one. Completist, I'm afraid.

I just ordered them yesterday directly from amazon.co.uk. I've done this before and they handle the conversion flawlessly (or, I guess the credit card company does?). Only about $32 or so, and they could arrive as early as the end of next week. I hope they send me the correct versions. I've never owned Totale's in its entirety before.

Bought Grotesque at the local Tower, for 15 dollars; they had TT as well, but I could only buy one of 'em.

I just got mine (Grotesque)yesterday, I ordered it and the Middles book off of Amazon.com. Both were listed as "Used", the cd came sealed in plastic and the book did not appear to ever been opened. Score!
anyway: Grotesque sounds incredible. Such an improvement over the CogSin vers (the only vers I had previously heard), even the wife commented on how much better it sounded. Also: I really appericiate the attempts to mantain the original artwork look to the cd. This is the first of the Expanded Editions I have purchased and I am already salivating over Slates, HexEndHr &c.
Top notch work all around!

Well, I got my discs from Amazon today -- incredible considering I ordered them the night of the 6th, that's only five days from overseas. Again, fantastic job on the reissues -- I love the fold-out booklets with the extensive liner notes, newspaper articles, and photos of the original vinyl labels. They make these versions seem so definitive. Seriously, so far this is one of the best reissue series I have seen.
I can't wait to listen to Grotesque, one of my favorite Fall records. It really snuck up on me, too.
I've never owned TT before, so this is the first time I will have ever heard it in its entirety. I have a feeling it's going to take its place near the top of the heap for me.

is there a noticeable diff between this tt and previous cd of it?
REX - September 4, 2004 07:09 AM (GMT)
Hard to say, as I didn't own TT on CD before... probably? I only say that because there's been a noticeable difference on all the others so far.
Oh, and there's also the bonus Peel Session, which is *all* about "New Puritan," and the liner notes, which are quite nice.

thanks-ah well, i might relent then and get this-i say now i will get chaos/live in london but not slates, and will change my mind later so having thought ahead-ill relent now

Oh frell. I picked up the wrong version (Cog Sinister -- no extras). No wonder it sounds like crap.
Oh well, my master plan is to get the expanded version and the impending Sanctuary release of Hex and give my old copies of Grotesque and Hex to a friend of mine ('Here..you might enjoy these...'). Spread the joy and all that.

totalle's turn & grotesque were my first taste of The Fall. Copied for me by my high school art teacher (what a goddess!) I still own these cassettes and play them often after 12-13 years. I haven't bought the reissues yet.
Grotesque is my all time favorite Fall album. They really fuck with form on this one, really atonal and clangy and MES is really in top form lyrically and singing. The whole album has a real sense of dread and loneliness while still dancing...and not in your silly Joy Division kind of way. This album LAUGHS AT LIFE LAUGHS AT GRIM DEATH!
Totalle's Turn- such a raw great album...when I finally heard the studio tracks I was quite taken aback. They are so tame in comparision! MES yelping is quite hilarious in this one. I once had roomate exclaim "IF I HEAR 'HAIL THE NEW PURITAN' ONE MORE FUCKING TIME....."

i relented after spotting the tt rerelease and notice, i think, that it has a warmer, less flat sound, which is good, or did i dream that coz i was on an e at the time
