Title: What's Your Musical Holy Grail....
Description: ... And Who Can Help You Find It?
daren - October 15, 2009 10:00 PM (GMT)
We've probably all got want lists of those almost-mythical records that you know of, and have searched high and low for but simply can't find anywhere.
Maybe this could be the place where people list them and request help in tracking them down?
As stated elsewhere, the 1st two I can think of are
Judo For The Blind - Tragic Mulatto, and
Knot A Fish - 5 Go Down To The Sea?
Anyone able to help?
Used to be this for YEARS....

... but was unbelievably lucky enough to get a near-mint promotional copy off ebay for less than £30 this time last year
Weird thing is, once I'd finally got it, I sorta thought, "What now...?"
flickeringlexicon - October 15, 2009 10:36 PM (GMT)
The only ones I can think of offhand are all Fall albums:
In The City
Live In Zagreb
Live in Reykjavik
I despair of ever hearing any of them...
Orphiztic - October 15, 2009 10:37 PM (GMT)
A signed copy of The Velvet's Banana album.
Robert Johnson's mythical 30th song.
A studio copy of "God's Foot" by Juliana Hatfield

Amos & Sara - Sara goes pop (cassette version).
Not even the real thing, a hissy 128kps mp3 will do. But is it anywhere? Bollocks is it.
Acton High Street - October 16, 2009 07:44 AM (GMT)
Every six months I ask if anyone's seen a copy of this anywhere:

No one ever has.. :cry2:

SonofAlways - October 16, 2009 05:34 PM (GMT)
April Showers, "Abandon Ship" 12-inch.
Maybe the most perfect indiepop record ever released. The copies that have turned up on ebay have gone for $400 and up...

I have all these and have never played them. 2 are still seal wrapped.
I went on a collector spree on Ebay years ago and have no idea why.
Are they any good?
I hear a lot of that older live Fall stuff sounds like it was recorded from the bogs?
In many cases from down the actual sweetcorn infested pan.

Sadly not: it's the delicious double 7", but the cassette version has some entirely different tracks that I seem doomed never to hear. Thanks for trying, though!

I used to love When you are a King by White Plains. Probably not a good idea to hear it again, though. (Though I heard Kites by Simon Dupree and The Big sound (the first group I ever saw, in Leeds City Hall (I think) in 1968-9, with Gene Pitney and Amen Corner) and that's wonderful.

My Fall 'holy grail' items are the bit I've picked up for free over the years. Empty Holstien cans and busted bass E strings etc.
Worthless on Ebay of course.
You don't have to spend a huge amount of money to get a bit of The Fall.
I'll soon be flogging some of my Fall CD's on Ebay. Not because I have a problem being a fan, but because unless you want to collect it all, there's no point having stuff you don't listen to.

Yeah, I almost bought Zagreb from Amazon.uk (the link you provided) but the fact that the picture is of 'Various Years,' not Zagreb, on that page, made me suspicious as to what I'd get if I ordered from there. I already have 'Various Years.'
Anyway, thanks to the response form the FoF faithful, my search will be over shortly. :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
Now, if only someone could find Duckpin a copy of the vinyl single of 'Marquis Cha Cha...'

What an empty and grail-less life you lead!
Beefheart "Bat Chain Puller". The Zappa-produced original version.
Digital copies of the unremixed master tapes of Ruben and the Jets with original bass and drum parts.
These haven't been released as such, but are all releasable.

Knot A Fish - 5 Go Down To The Sea?
Anyone able to help? |
You know what? I think I might have that and in mint condition too. I won’t be able to check until I am back in Dublin at Christmas but if I do find it it’s yours.
Did a quick google to check on the identity of this single and came across this page which has Five Go Down To The Sea stuff inclusing above EP available as a free seemingly legit download as well as a documentary on the group.

Apparently the Music is Shit EP by New Fast Automatic Daffodils is available on cd, but I've never been able to find one. For some reason, this has become an obsession far greater than I can ever justify.
My Bloody Valentine's You Made Me Realise on 5 track card sleeve cd single is one that I used to have and sold when I was skint. A copy of that would be amazing, for the b-sides and for sentimental reasons that I don't really want to go in to :ohdear:
a 7" copy of Press a Key by Plone.
I would be willing to pay good money for any of these.

Wow Murph! That'd be brilliant. Thank you so much - and thanks for the link. Think someone sent me a cd of the documentary, but can I find it...?!!
Keep in touch please mate and if there's anything I can sort out or exchange with you I'd be more than happy to do what I can.

Not sure why this is such an obsession, someone I knew had a copy so I know it exists...
