Title: Amazon.com Pop Quiz
Description: Guess the albums from the reviews
Zoot Horn Polo - September 12, 2009 01:32 PM (GMT)
These are all extracts from album reviews on Amazon.com. They are genuine reviews, covering music from the last 40 years, and are reprinted here in their original spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Kindly tell me, using your skill and judgment, which albums these people are talking about.
1. It's his first work that he become theatrical both in concert and in the music. The songs are strong in theme, as most of his later would show. It's moods very and yet have a strong center core of emotions and feelings that are subdued by the lyrics and themes which they speak of. This is just a great album. Get it. The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - David Bowie (BUY KURIOUS!)
2. I remember it like it was just yesterday. We had recently moved into a new house and my brother had the entire basement to himself - and his rocking loud stereo system. I was 11 years old and hadn't yet really established what I liked the most in music, although I did have a few favorites: Elton John, Black Sabbath, John Denver. I'll never forget the amazing sound coming from the basement - I ran downstairs and asked my brother, "What's that?" Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd (ORPHIZTIC)
3. This album pretty much defines the term "classic" within the universe of mainstream popular music. A positive review here on amazon is almost superfluous. Almost. Of course, nearly everyone on the planet is familiar with the brilliant and utterly ubiquitous title track, but fewer, I'm afraid, have taken the time to mine the other gems ensconced within the confines of this disc. Imagine - John Lennon (FRITTER)
4. Man, these guys are really messed up! They have some great rhythms and then they have to mess them up with the stupid lyrics, I mean when will the IDIOCY on their part end? Can't they at least leave the "F" word out of their songs!? American Idiot - Green Day (BUY KURIOUS!)
5. This guy is tha bomb! He gets a lot of MTV and BET airplay- meaning that he is more talented than those Beatles clowns. The lyrics are awesome and you can dance to the phat beats. He's so talented he doesn't even need to play an instrument! Beat that! He has amazing flow and is a true rap legend! Get Rich Or Die Tryin' - 50 Cent (FRITTER)
6. I left this cd under the seat of my car for like 3 years, during which time, it had popped out of the crappy case and got all scratched up. When I finally cleaned out my car, I threw the cd away. Hello Nasty - Beastie Boys (STEPHEN)
7. I don't get why this *WAY* over-hyped mediocre alt-rock rock band from the 90s can incite such absurd, obnoxious fanboy behavior from the 15-35 (mostly male) demographic (just look at the 2000+ reviews here). I'm tempted to ask folks who say this is 'brilliant' or 'genius' (the two most common adjectives signifying fanboydom): HAVE YOU EVER HEARD MUSIC BEFORE??? Kid A - Radiohead (FRITTER)
8. If there is a record out there that deserves 0 stars, this would be it. It is complete nonsense. Anyone claiming "masterpiece" or "under-rated" or "deep and meaningful" need to get their gears checked. The fact that it exists is more humorous than anything. Metal Machine Music - Lou Reed (STEPHEN)
9. Originally this was a bad review. But over the course of the past months this cd has become an absolute favorite of mine. Maybe at first listen it's nothing special. But I think repeat listens help you "get" the style of this cd. [The band] did a great job and I am looking forward to their 4th studio album and all future albums as well... Admittedly some of the tracks seem half-assed, and coulda had more production put into them, but they are still gems anyways. Chemistry - Girls Aloud (FRITTER/STEPHEN)
10. My issue with music lately is as follows. Two or three singles per album and ten or so filler songs. So, I stopped buy music by the album. I bought this album. All of it. No filler here kids, this is a hard hitting rock album that hails back to greats like Queen and does not falter. Way to go guys! The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance (GREASE FOR ROADS)
11. The only band to lay more "music" to vinyl than the Grateful Dead, and with no end in sight. No musician is more responsible for the ongoing violation of Mother Gaia and the mobilization of vast armies to secure resources to make more records: why do you think the UK is in Iraq? For Allah's sake, the dude doesn't play a guitar and is turning into a hunchback! When will the sonic rapture cease? And who decided to defile the memory of Nudie Cohen? Go ahead. Be a yob. Buy this and turn into some fey Brahmin who thinks Madonna isn't British. I'm warning YOU!! 50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong - The Fall (STEPHEN/DUCKPIN236)
12. Oh. My. Word. Some people actually think this album is a classic? It's pure crap! Not only is it mediocre and boring, but it is also SO annoying that whenever I hear it I run out of the room screaming at the top of my lungs in the utmost agony! I would have built a huge bonfire, tossed [this album] into it, and danced around it with joy if my mom had let me. Sadly, she didn't. What a terrible album. Two thumbs down. Never Mind The Bollocks - Sex Pistols (DUCKPIN236/FRITTER)
13. The reason I gave this one star is because I HATE that song where the singer sings, "Dirty deeds, thundercheek! Dirty deeds and the thundercheek!" WHAT IS THE THUNDERCHEEK!?!?!? That's SO annoying. Back In Black - AC/DC (BUY KURIOUS!/ELVISCHOMSKY)
14. this is horrible! My friend suggested I listin to them and I wanted to beat him with a bat. This crap killed the part of my brain that loves music. The vocals sound like somone beating two cats together. The band seems to think they are too good for tempo. It seems like every instrument is off playing at whatever speed the person playin it wants too. It doesn't fit together very well. Legion - Deicide (BUY KURIOUS!/RYANENO)
15. I played around with it on my computer, erasing seams: it wasn't hard and the results completed the record, one big question, one big what's going on without an answer or an attempt to analyze and repair like most social records do. Call that a strength or a weakness, there's an answer in the attitude here. If the album makes me think bedroom thoughts beginning to end, well hey, make love not war. It's not a sobering look at social ills, but who wants to be too sober anyway? What's Going On - Marvin Gaye (STEPHEN)
16. Abstruse guitar picking, political naivety, lengthy songs throwing autobiographical titbits to the baying hordes of worshippers. Viva Hate - Morrissey (ORPHIZTIC)
17. If this were just a review of the music it would be 5 stars, but it's a review of the CD. My son bought this CD and we listened to it or tried to. I have a nice stereo, so when other people said it sounded like crap I tried to adjust the stereo. Could not make it sound good. We went to a high-end stereo shop and they told us that indeed this CD does sound bad. It was so bad that my wife would not enter the living room. I returned the CD, got store credit. We bought an old LP for $10 and used Audacity (a free download) to transfer it onto CD. We were immediately amazed at the difference in sound. The CD with a sharp annoying sound that you hated, opposed to the smooth listenable sounds of the vinyl. Now I'm not going to tell you to go out and sell your CDs and buy LPs. Do not. Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin (STEPHEN)
18. This album has some amazng songs on it. Don't get me wrong. But once you get past the first 3, it kind of goes downhill from there. These guys are great musicians, but this album doesn't stick to one particlar style...it kind of goes everywhere. Maybe worth downloading some of the songs, but not purchasing the whole album. The Joshua Tree - U2 (BUY KURIOUS!/FRITTER)
19. it is horrible how people talk of his "greatness" esspescally when mtv will run those pathetic special tributes to him, this guy could hardy play guitar, it makes me laugh so much to see this loser play his crappy 3chord moan about life songs, the guy sounds like a god dam zombie when he sings and he is definatly one of the worst guitar players in the history of rock. how is it that he got so much fame when he sucks? Nevermind - Nirvana (GREASE FOR ROADS)
20. Thirty years after it was made, this collection still has a powerful and fresh anointing. I play it in my car during my commute and it lifts my day. Since the Lord is not limited by time and space, the special anointing of this album is always "now." Slow Train Coming - Bob Dylan (STEPHEN)

erm, so i didn't get this right. '13. The reason I gave this one star is because I HATE that song where the singer sings, "Dirty deeds, thundercheek! Dirty deeds and the thundercheek!"
