Title: PIL
marvell78 - September 7, 2009 06:28 PM (GMT)
just read this:
lydon to reform PIL
'He said the new-look PiL will not contain original band members Jah Wobble or former Clash guitarist Keith Levene but will feature guitarist Lu Edmonds, drummer Bruce Smith and a new arrival, multi-instrumentalist Scott Firth.'
what can you say?
A Worried Man - September 7, 2009 06:35 PM (GMT)
I wish him every success?

That it ain't PiL, that's a different band.
Mere Pseud. - September 7, 2009 07:02 PM (GMT)
At the latest since the mid 80s it's been Lydon and someone on bongos (or whatever) anyway. -_-
Head Gardener - September 7, 2009 07:12 PM (GMT)
I saw PIL in the 90's and they were "ok"
it was around the time of the single Cruel, which was fine n all
but their set was padded out with poor album tracks. I always
regret not being able to see them on Xmas Day in '78 when they played
their first show at The Rainbow in London, I was soooo close
to a ticket but was let down on the day itself, buggeration!
I wouldn't see them now not without Wobble, it would be like
seeing the White Stripes without Meg, or summat.

I suppose Jeanette Lee's much too successful these days.

It's a bit subtle for sarcasm.
What happened to Keith Levene, did he go back to being guitar tech for Steve Howe...?
I look forward to the new PIL, you never know you know.
SimonC - September 7, 2009 08:16 PM (GMT)
I do hope Lu Edmonds won’t be giving up his place in the Mekons for this…
PiL ceased to be of any interest whatsoever the moment that Wobble left.
Gene Vincents Amphetamine Breath - September 7, 2009 08:32 PM (GMT)
If Lu Knee is not a "multi-instrumtalist" I dunno who the feck is!
The As-Yet Unborn Son - September 7, 2009 08:57 PM (GMT)
'Album' (or 'Compact Disc' or whatever it's called now) was the last one I had any interest in - don't think I'll be getting my hand in my pocket for a ticket for this somehow...
My Balloon - September 7, 2009 09:08 PM (GMT)
Oh dear, why does he bother. The butter contract run out perhaps?

He made at least one album in recent years. I didn't hear it but I read an interview in which he said he'd only let a major label release it - he seemed really out of touch and overly optimistic about his commercial potential. Years ago I found a 2nd hand copy of an EP by him from 1988 (Looking for Something). I thought I really got lucky finding it but it was horrendous. Flea played on it and it included a dire cover of If 6 Was 9.
Very disorientating to see a PiL logo on the front of the Guardian this morning. Of course the quality of later PiL was variable but I hope this incarnation is decent. Album was my youthful intro to Lydon so as much as I worship Metal Box I don't think it was all disaster after that.
The As-Yet Unborn Son - September 7, 2009 09:18 PM (GMT)
I still play Flowers Of Romance more than any of their other stuff.
daren - September 7, 2009 10:19 PM (GMT)
Bruce Smith behind the kit though... Must admit, my interest is piqued by that news
Neal Cassady - September 7, 2009 10:54 PM (GMT)
Lydons public image, let alone the band Public Image, just gets lower and lower if you ask me. The Jungle thing, the butter thing, voting tory... how low can he go -money grabber
Won't bother with this.
DeusErac - September 7, 2009 11:11 PM (GMT)
Smith and Edmunds both contributed some good, good stuff to those last couple of '90s PIL albums . . . and they were members of PIL for longer than Wobble was, so I don't think this is quite the Granny With Bongos scenario that some folks here seem to think it is . . . I'd be up for seeing what Lydon does with PIL's catalog and contemporary stagecraft and technology, though I know it'll never hit these shores . . .

If it's Lydon and his granny on bongos, it's PIL. -_-
Edit: Doubt it'll be much cop mind.

well, i hope he's been working out.
edit: i hope he hasnt been working out and goes violently red in the face with all the veins popping out. carecup = slightly more full.
second edit: he's not exactly madonna.

I thought it was very exciting. That brief hope that it might be Wobble/Levene...
But then again finding a complete VHS box set of Yes, Minister in a charity shop yesterday was exciting too, so maybe I'm just past it.

wasn't Steve Vai in PIL for a short time, or was that just another weird awake dream that I once had. I tell you, it's getting harder to seperate fact from fantasy these days.

Yes. September 1979. Recruited to help finish Metal Box but he's not on any of the released tracks. Left because he didnt get on with Levene or Wobble. (He does appear on Wobble's Betrayal LP, recorded at the same time as MB.
And Steve Vai contributed guitar to Album.

this is criminal but at least it might stop the effin pistol reunions which gain more media attention
i mean the 1st lp was pretty bad, metal box ace, flowers one of the best percussion/synth lps ever and the rest............well for want of a better word........ shit
Exopsychicton - September 12, 2009 11:29 PM (GMT)
Am I alone in enjoying This What You Want... This Is What You Get? Also the one that Levine released on his own, the record with Lou Reed (song, not person) on it. Fuck, what happened to that! Where did it Go...
Flowers. Great.

http://www.pilofficial.com/info.htmlDecember 2009 sees the return of Public Image Limited for 5 very special live dates in the UK. Their first shows in 17 years.
The shows will mark the 30th Anniversary of the release of 'Metal Box' but PiL will NOT be limited to tracks from one album and the tour will showcase their whole career.
PiL founder John Lydon will be joined by former members Lu Edmonds (Guitar & Misc) and Bruce Smith (Drums), plus new recruit Scott Firth (Bass).
Neal Cassady - September 18, 2009 10:12 AM (GMT)
I hope, HOPE, I have made my position perfectly clear on this

The only reason for this would be the end of The Pistols playing shows
just read
Wobble apparently turned it down because he wanted to play new stuff as opposed to rehashing the old songs.

"Remastered" Metal Box. Sacrilegious surely.

It seems the PIL gigs have got some good reviews, and I'm pleased as I picked up some cheapo tickets from ebay.
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertai...am-1842068.htmlhttp://www.birminghammail.net/news/top-sto...97319-25405049/According to some posters on the Pistols website they were on for just over 2 hours and the set included, according to one poster:
