Title: Best unreleased live song
Martin - July 25, 2004 08:38 AM (GMT)
So here's a poll of all the songs
You haven't seen on shop CDs
You may not know of all of them
But use your vote to tell us, please
Which of these tracks played live at gigs
You feel you rate the best of all
Of those dear songs not yet released
(Though many should be) by The Fall.
If all these songs were made of food
Your stomachs would be full and bloated
Perhaps it's for the very best
That only one song can be voted.

Crack House, no contest. I still unearth the two MCR Jilly's gigs from 97 occasionally to have a listen to that one.
Stephen - July 26, 2004 11:56 AM (GMT)
Ring of Fire doesn't really count, surely: just a few lines of the J.Cash song sung into Fiery Jack. Same happened with:
Lou Reed – Kill Your Sons –> Ketamine Sun
The Seeds – Evil Hoodoo –> Ten Houses Of Eve
On some live versions, lyrics from the originals would crop up, but I wouldn't call these covers as such. Interesting how the originals inspired Mark's lyrics: 'Evil' –> 'Eve' and 'Sons' –> 'Sun'.

I think you're right, but some people might be pissed
If I didn't put all the songs in the list.
It's on the discography
So don't go blaming me!

Hey Marc Riley cos of sheer bizarreness
Martin - July 28, 2004 09:10 AM (GMT)
Two votes for that song about language perverting
Can't say that I see it's so great.
The ones on the LP are much more diverting
I think it deserves its obscure fate.

Has anyone heard it? What was it like?
chrisgoodhead - July 28, 2004 09:15 AM (GMT)
I have not heard most of these
I would like to hear them please
If you're feeling very kind
Put them on a tape for me, if you don't mind.
stuart - July 28, 2004 09:20 AM (GMT)
Hey Marc Riley for me, good pop song.
Intrigued to hear "Crackhouse", I'm not 100% sure, but was it a song written with DOSE that got abandoned ?
Wasn't Tunnel used as part of the Chiselers ?

Indeed - long instrumental passage at the start.

Is the song "My Condition" a cover of a song used in the film "The Big Lebowski"??
"...I just checked in to see what condition my condition was in....."??

"The Big Lebowski" also features "I Hate You" by The Monks, which made me do a huge double-take the first time I saw it.

Maybe they played it in 77
I'm sure that it must exist
As soon as I hear a tape of the song
I'll be adding it to the list.

No record exists
No tape or CD
Maybe the song
Is a fantasy...
But if anyone heard
This song at the time
Was it any cop...
or does it deserve to be heavily covered in slime?

I did have a look
but it's not on the list of unreleased songs
So blame Stefan Cooke.

What about unperformed greats? One is minded of "Dave"'s memorable contribution...
squarehead - August 7, 2004 07:22 PM (GMT)
Which New York City song? Surely not the Demics' NYC as covered by Chris Spedding? Have the Fall covered this?!!
squarehead - August 9, 2004 01:53 PM (GMT)
"Plaster on the Hands" I have this on a boot cassette (NYC or Boston? mid 80s)
Has it ever seen official release?

There's a version (London 21 Mar 83, allegedly*) on the Backdrop CD.
* But it's not in the gigography setlist, so who knows?

Plus versions on one of the Perverted By Language reissues and on the 2nd CD that came with Levitate.

Time someone did a new poll reflecting the tracks now released (listed here) and the new unreleased songs (not listed here).
Martin?
Big Chief Mango Chutney XIV - May 24, 2005 10:07 PM (GMT)
I agree with Stephen. But out of the tracks above "Session Musician" wins. One of my favourite songs ever. Every version seems to sound different too.
"Crackhouse" is ace as well. :applaud:

Not heard a few of the above, but I'm plesently surprised by how many I do own :D
Gotta be Session Musician, evan though it's now officialy available on the APOAT reissue...
If we're talking about still unofficial tracks though, It's a close call between Hey! Marc Riley and My Condition... The latter may just steal it :)
