Title: Every Fall album you own...
Description: ...in order of preference.
Stuie - July 23, 2004 06:16 PM (GMT)
Inspired by a comment of Stephen's in another thread.
Not as easy as it sounds. I should also mention that I would rather listen to I Am Kurious Oranj rather than most other music in the world, just to keep this in perspective. I've included EPs/singles as well.

I pretty much had everything on vinyl up to Extricate. Then I lost them all about 10 years ago. :(
I'm now rebuilding my collection, but this time as CD's. So, it's currently meagre but here t'is:
'RNFLP (US Version)'
'50,000 Fall Fans'
'This Nations Saving Grace'
'The Unutterable'
Actually, I just scored 'The Unutterable' while perusing a local used record store on my lunch break today. Got it for $10 CDN. Now *THAT* made my day!! :applaud:
My local HMV has an imported CD of 'Grotesque', but they want $37 for it!!!! I think I'll look for it cheaper elsewhere. I also desperately want to get my hands on a CD copy of 'Hex'.
gorillabat - July 23, 2004 06:55 PM (GMT)
I tried, but I don't think I can do this. I have 30 Fall CDs exactly. Too many of them are equally classic and I can't put them in descending order. Also, a few are kinda spotty to me and I can't really rank those either.
What a lameass I am...
Can't even pick one single "fave" or "least fave"...depends on what I'm listening to at the moment.
usrlocal - July 23, 2004 06:56 PM (GMT)
Ooooh, I'm supposed to rank them, aren't I? I guess the order I have them in will do. :)

Told you it wasn't easy! I kept making changes right up until I posted my list. I could probably go back and change it again. The top three are pretty much set, but after that anything could happen. I might even switch the order of Oranj and Code: Selfish.
Big Chief Mango Chutney XIV - July 23, 2004 08:09 PM (GMT)

Added on Edit: Forgot to mention the Protein Christmas and Sparta 2# singles. But I can't be arsed to alter the numbers now, so I'll leave this for a future date.

Oh that's probably all wrong and I probably forgot a bunch of records but ordering Fall records is near impossible.
I can't even remember if I have Hip Priests or Palace.
It has Wings and CB on it, the one I have.
Well, Wings is great but I cannot listen to the Man Whose Head Expanded and How I Wrote Elastic Man too often. It's just me.
God only knows.
Oh that's Brian Wilson.
ciao

Divvey - July 24, 2004 05:00 AM (GMT)
just too bloomin' hard.
Got them all bar one or 2 dodgy comps & on any given day chart will change.
Current top3 ...
Witch trials reissue
Fall in a hole
COTC
bottom 3
2g
Extricate (temp. placing due to overuse)
Winner (will always be here)
and in the middle I have the live ones, nice to have a different look.
gorillabat - July 24, 2004 05:39 AM (GMT)
Alright, this seems like too much fun. But I think the best I can muster is a TOP 3 and a BOTTOM 3.
As always, highly subject to change...
FAVE 3:
Wonderful and Frightening World
Hex Enduction Hour
Fall In a Hole
LEAST FAVE 3:
Light User Syndrome
Infotainment Scan
Middle Class Revolt
Bend Sinister, Frenz Experiment, Unutterable and TRNFLP would also be very near the top! Who'm I kidding.... Perverted, Grotesque and Dragnet are also way up there....see whut I mean? Arrrgghhh!
As I always harp, I must qualify this by saying there are 5 I have never owned or yet heard:
Shift Work
Code: Selfish
Cerebral Caustic (this one is on its way...)
27 Points
and the Receiver comps and "Live In..." series. I have heard none of those yet, but they aren't quite in the canon of "true" Fall releases, eh?
It's funny how even those at the bottom of the list bring me a great deal of pleasure and have more staying power than most music of that era.
Even the least satisfying Fall album does me better than the pinnacle achievement of 90%+ other bands...
Prancey_Dog - July 24, 2004 07:56 AM (GMT)
Singles included here but.... I got despondent after 10 minutes. The decisions were just arbitrary; I mean how can you say whether Hex is better or worse than Country? I think the best way is to put them in 3 categories; "Can't live without", "Essential" and "Glad I Have It". That should cover them all.
So, after the 10 minutes of moving them about this is what I have. If I had continued I guess that most ofthe live stuff would be near the bottom barring the glorious "In A Hole". I do think that Nation is possibly the greatest music ever put to record.

All Fall CDs from best to worst
Though I do fear that I'll be dead
Before I choose which should be first.

I think it depends on when you got into The Fall /how old you are. I was 20 when Extricate came out...that was the first album / gig...will always be my favourite. I suppose it fitted with my Lou Reed- type colllection at the time. 'Bill is Dead' was the English 'Walk on the Wild Side' to me. I also thought it was Scanlon at his best. 'I'm Frank', 'Arms Control' etc. Mark wanted to be heard too...which at times he doesn't. The vocal was up front in the mix.
...sentimental old fool I am

Kurious Oranj was my very first Fall purchase (got it out of curiosity when it was released in '88) and is still one of my favorites. I too am surprised when I see the many derogatory remarks made about it... but two of my least favorites are Shift-Work and Infotainment Scan, and they often get high marks, so go figure.

Someone mentioned that it depends on which albums you heard first. Guess my selection reflects that...... started from the beginning...etc... maybe the 90s etc albums will sound better in a decade or so.... or before the moon falls......

I actually don't mind, in fact rather like, 2G+2, which probably makes me unique on this forum.
