Title: 458489 A-Sides
Description: Favourite track?
Stephen - July 13, 2004 10:40 AM (GMT)
Also known as The Brix Years (part 1).
bezenby2 - July 13, 2004 11:25 AM (GMT)
Too many to choose from but I'll say Jerusalem....best of the late eighties singles...
Is it just me or is there no difference between Wrong Place Right Time numbers 1 & 2?

A cause of constant debate with myself in my ever-jumbled mind, this.
I think the "Kurious Oranj" cd version of "Wrong Place..." is equal to "Wrong Place..." part 2.
I also think the "Kurious Oranj" vinyl version of "Wrong Place..." is not equal to "Wrong Place..." part 2, but haven't got the vinyl "K.O." to confirm this.
Stephen - July 13, 2004 11:50 AM (GMT)
You're correct: main difference is the extra middle 8 bit in the #2 version.

Which uses the same chords as "Van Plague?", I think.
Martin - July 13, 2004 12:41 PM (GMT)
And do you know that if forced to choose, I would keep the B Sides?
Stephen - July 13, 2004 12:56 PM (GMT)
Hey! Luciani is somewhat underwhelming, isn't it? In fact, this album is one of my least played.
mantpl - July 13, 2004 01:25 PM (GMT)
I never play this CD.
they might be Fall A sides but overall they're a poor representation of the groups output 84-89. Still if I had to choose I'd go for Cruiser's Creek. Cracking video as well.

just checkin all the old polls thru stephen's wonderfull link....
Choice "big new prinz".
why?
cos' i did, ok :D
otherdave - November 16, 2004 07:12 AM (GMT)
Couldn't get ahead / Cruisers creek / L.A. for me - the Oranj stuff I could never be bothered with, except some of the B-sides. The "Sounds showcase" Luciani would win hands down for me if it had been the "official" A-side, though the flat "Backdrop" recording doesn't do it justice. I'd sooner have "B-sides" too. :)
High Tension Line - November 16, 2004 05:23 PM (GMT)
I would go for No Bulbs, followed closely by LA & Cruisers Creek. It's a hard choice - I like all of it. I least prefer - but only marginally, the singles from Kurious Oranj.
fallchase - November 16, 2004 05:32 PM (GMT)
i dont have the a sides but i do have the b sides double cd. but i picked la cause this song kicks ass.
Curious Yellow - November 16, 2004 05:59 PM (GMT)
Hey Luciani is a bit Lloyd-Webberish I think.

Correct!
Wretched Timesheeter - November 16, 2004 09:17 PM (GMT)
There's A Ghost In My House - the Big Hit Single. It's totally great, and I don't care.
The Eccles Connection - November 16, 2004 09:21 PM (GMT)
Rollin' Dany stands out for me.....excellent "Fallabilly"
Jean-Baptiste Clamence - November 24, 2004 01:59 AM (GMT)
I went for Dead Beat Descendent, only because I don't own it anywhere else and i only ever put the A-sides on to listen to it. Big New Prinz is the best though.
mutatedpony - January 25, 2005 12:13 AM (GMT)
Living Too Late - for the bass line alone. And the bit where it all comes apart. I always think of that era Fall as relying on fantastic riffs more than other periods - US 80s90s, Cruiser's Creek, Big New Prinz, etc, etc
fallchase - January 25, 2005 03:26 PM (GMT)
ok i have a sides now, so i picked la.
S5 not Manc - January 25, 2005 04:58 PM (GMT)
Big New Prinz for me, definetly the strongest on the album, although it is an excellent album overall, plenty of great stuff on here.
Vvillager - January 25, 2005 10:14 PM (GMT)
I went for Living Too Late, as it is an epic track, but then actually wished that I had gone for Hit The North - the closest thing to a Fall Anthem.
It is worth remembering that in the days of vinyl, the singles did not contaminate the LPs - they were totally seperate entities with one or two exceptions. They weren't Fall tracks, they were aimed at a wider audience.
However, they WERE Fall tracks, and together, they form a unique album, even by Fall standards. Not better than other Fall albums, but it takes its place in line. The 'B' sides were a different proposition again...
imaglasgowmanmyself - August 23, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
big new prinz
living too late 2nd
Mere Pseud. - August 23, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
Living Too Late without a doubt.
Hey! Luciani would be my second choice. Big New Prinz and Jerusalem are other highlights, although I always think of them as IAKO tracks instead of singles.
Nice compilation, but the b-sides collection is far preferable.
Exopsychicton - September 11, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
The B sides blow this bloated fucker right out of the water. Except for Living Too Late....
Daggerfall96 - September 12, 2007 09:07 AM (GMT)
Hey Luciani!
Still play the tape of the play sometimes. Love it to bits.
Frederick II - September 12, 2007 09:22 AM (GMT)
I have sworn on a stack of Fall CD's that I will never disparage any of their albums ever again. Therefore, I might prefer the B-sides collection but it doesnt mean that the A-sides isnt good as well. No Bulbs or Living Too Late are the top picks for me - with most of the others not far behind.
Rowche Rumblers - June 10, 2011 12:53 AM (GMT)
Haven't given this a listen in ages it seems though heard most of them on the regular albums, actually much prefer it's companion album: B-Sides. Still a tough choice but will go with....Hey! Luciani. B)

Big New Prinz of course.
Quintessential Fall.
Thanks.
;)
Kapitän - June 10, 2011 07:37 AM (GMT)
Allthough I probably prefer "Living Too Late" today, I have to vote for "Couldn't Get Ahead". The first Fall-song I heard that clicked with me, and the cause for all the madness that followed... :)

I like it cut away from the Dog Is Life bit, but the omission of walking down the street and slipping on a discarded banana skin bothers me.
duckpin236 - June 10, 2011 09:37 PM (GMT)
No Bulbs - no reason - but I've always really liked No Bulbs
Chris a100 - June 10, 2011 09:39 PM (GMT)
How could I possibly choose? Can't I just keep them all? :cry2:
OK, if you're going to force me, I'll go with No Bulbs.
....no, wait, Couldn't Get Ahead....
By the way, best way to listen to this record is create a play list that interleaves the B-Sides as well.....

Favorite part of No Bulbs:
The prior tenant's views on corporal punishment are offered as an explanation for the fact that MES cannot find a belt!
