Title: Interconnected Answers Quiz
Description: Answers Quiz, Interconnected

Fritter - March 4, 2009 12:17 PM (GMT)
Here are the answers, what are the questions? Each question somehow relates to the preceding question OR answer, so you shouldn't necessarily have to get Q1 right first, you can work backwards from the one you do know. I think.....

Please be patient as I have limited access right now. Think of it as a Zen Pub Quiz exercise...

1. (WHO PAID FOR THE FALL'S FIRST RECORDINGS? - Elvischomsky)The Buzzcocks' manager
2. (WHO PAID FOR .23 SKIDOO'S FIRST RECORDINGS - all but the name: Zoot; name: Capp) Mark Bedford of Madness
3. (NAME ANOTHER GROUP OTHER THAN MADNESS WITH A MEMBER NAMED CATHAL - Hofstatder) Microdisney
4. (WHAT DO HIGH LLAMAS, AMERICAN MUSIC CLUB - SAY - AND MR. BUNGLE HAVE IN COMMON? - Zoot/Spiring), All 3 have released albums named after U.S. states
5. (PLEASE NAME TWO GROUPS MEMBERS OF MIKE PATTON'S EXPERI-METAL GROUP FANTOMAS PLAY IN - Spiring) The Melvins and Slayer
6. (WHERE DID MIKE PATTON RECORD HIS FIRST SOLO ALBUM - 'ADULT THEMES'?) In various hotel rooms
7. (WHAT WERE THE MOTELS ORIGNALLY CALLED?) The Warfield Foxes
8. (WHAT IS THE COVER OF THE FLEET FOXES LP? - Hiccup Percy) A detail of Netherlandish Proverbs by Pieter Bruegel the Elder
9. (WHAT WAS UNIQUE ABOUT 2UNLIMITED? - Buy Kurious) They were the only Dutch act on Pete Waterman's label (although the producers were from another country)
10. (WHAT IS PLASTIC BERTRAND'S REAL NAME? - Hiccup Percy) Roger Jouret

Bonus points galore for specificity.
This quiz is not open to employees of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, the dirty cheaters.

9. What was unique about 2 Unlimited?

(i think. The producers were italian?)

Yes (I still love Get Ready For This :ohdear: )

The producers were not Italian, they were from the same country as #10.

4. What connects the High Llamas, American Music Club and Lou Reed?

Ahhhh, High Llamas is 'right' - and it is a critical one, the second one of the three is also critical, but you haven't got it yet - the third is a free choice, so I guess you get 2 points there.

It may well have been Sean O'Hagan's first band but that is not the question I'm after.

I did not know that, so it is wrong I'm afraid. Besides, plimsolls have nothing to do with the following question.

Ah, but in my bizarro world I had decided that Qn 4 must have High Tops in the answer (High Llamas and 4 Tops, or something?), and that Qn 6 might be to do with leaving shoes in hotel rooms.

:ohdear: I'll get my coat.

hofstadter - March 4, 2009 09:40 PM (GMT)
I think that the man for Qn 5 might be Rick Rubin (Def American, American Recordings etc) who has definitely produced Slayer... but I didn't know he'd worked with the Melvins. Maybe I'm off track though.

well, as you'll know, the painting depicts over 100 old Flemish proverbs - one of those proverbs is "the fox and the cock are having dinner together." since the previous question mentions foxes, i thought you meant that proverb.
the proverb means something like scumbags will look up each other's company. if you examine the cover closely, you'll see the fox, wearing a napkin, with his back turned towards the viewer. he's on the terrace having lunch right between the portico, the farmer shearing a pig and the guy urinating into the fire.
this is my favourite painting - everytime i'm in berlin i go see it.

i don't know the question to any of the other answers.

Yes he is very close, but the question is also connected to Madness, personally (or nominally).

(For a fan of Round Britain Quiz, this is truly thrilling - thanks for your perseverance so far, it will be rewarded, Grasshopper!)

Very good (I forgot he was in VOTB for a bit) but not the question I'm looking for.

It's connected to Question 1 (which is in turn to do with The Fall). Don't forget, Madness were a very successful band, commercially.

A main component of Q's 4,5,& 6 has worked (still does) with elements of the answer to Q.5

I'm confusing myself now

More "Clues":

I'm surprised Mopi doesn't know 10.
7: first steps for a group nominally connected to the answer to 6.
3: What's in a name?
2: Skateboard champion brothers; Bedders' benevolence.

CORRECT!-ish. I was really surprised to read this in the sleevenotes of this group's recently reissued CD, like Mr. Buzzcocks, Bedders paid for their first recording.

So if anyone knows of any groups consisting of such people - they also had Kirk and Mallinder of Cabaret Voltaire produce one of their early records - it'll be a coup.
