JonN - July 9, 2004 12:55 PM (GMT)
What track will receive the honour bestowed on "I'm Going To Spain" and "Houston"?

bezenby2 - July 9, 2004 01:20 PM (GMT)
You left out The New Seekers 'I'd like to teach the world to sing'

heavilycoveredinslime - July 9, 2004 01:36 PM (GMT)
I'd like to hear (Totally) Wired for Sound. The Fall need more Cliff in there.

Drjohnrock - July 10, 2004 03:19 AM (GMT)
More Than Eva Braun (written by Danny O'Keefe, best known for the song Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues from the early seventies). Has lines like: "He would have loved you more than Eva Braun..he wouldn't have cared that you're not a natural blond". MES could dedicate it to one of his ex-wifes or ex-girlfriends.

Drjohnrock - July 10, 2004 03:21 AM (GMT)
Yes, I know, it should have been "ex-wives", not "ex-wifes"--it's late and I've not had much sleep lately.

The Fall covering Hawkwind has a strange...appeal...

repeater - July 10, 2004 03:54 AM (GMT)
i've always had a crazy dream that The Fall would one day cover James Brown's "Sex Machine"
now that would be perfect...."get up-ah! gitownupp...GET UPPP-AAHH!!.."

Has to be Black Sabbath...

gorillabat - July 10, 2004 06:44 AM (GMT)

If it's any consolation, your avatar makes me nauseous if I look at it for too long.

Yours makes me hungry for something juicy.

Something juicy and covered heavily in slime.

The Heart User Syndrome?

Happy Summer Holiday?

Carry Bag Man Doesn't Live Here Anymore?

And This Saviour's Day?

Livin' Dresden Dolls?

The Jung One's Antidotes?

In The Country On The Click

And so on...

ghostly neutrino - July 30, 2004 02:51 AM (GMT)
I think it's an ok time for MES /Fall to do novelty song covers or similar pop cultural detritus.
Such as:
The Name Game...Muskrat Love...My Girl, Bill (follow up to Bill Is Dead)...I Don't Like Spiders & Snakes...Float On Over...Theme From Shaft...Ballad Of The Green Berets...
Maybe it's right to be nervous now.
Fill the rest in yourselves.

....and this one The Fall should do. My wife thought it assaulted me one morning as our alarum wake up call. It didn't, cause I actually love this chestnust:

JUDY IN DESGUISE - John Fred & The Playboy Band

Brilliant!

The Young Ones.

Congratulations too.

And Summer Holiday, and Bachelor Boy. In fact all Cliff's early greats have just the right tempo for MES.

A Cliff cover LP! "Cliff Fall"!

I nominate: "The Wagon" by Dinosaur Jr.

Every bit as good as "Smells like Teen Spirit" and a song that would fit very nice with the sound of RNFLP. It would be nice if they rockabillyfied the song by about 15%.

Steve Local - August 12, 2004 08:58 AM (GMT)
They should clearly cover "Shaddup You Face" by Joe Dolce.

fallfandave - August 12, 2004 09:04 AM (GMT)
well i want them to another monks track........oh how to do now......i hate you....and shut up....is not enough..

have they covered the monks more than any other band ?

that is a lot of respect for a band that only did one album

gorillabat - August 12, 2004 12:34 PM (GMT)
You forget Black Monk Theme(s) 1&2...

Err.... Black Monk 1 is a cover of I Hate You, Black Monk 2 is a cover of "Oh How To Do Now"...

Duh....oh yeah! (Wipes drool and oatmeal crusties from piehole...)

R. Totale - August 12, 2004 04:36 PM (GMT)
MacArthur Park.. they'll do it sooner or later

ghostly neutrino - August 15, 2004 05:49 PM (GMT)

We're an American Band by Grand Funk Railroad.

Except he'll need to change the frizzy headed American vibe references like he has done with "Houston" and "F-Olding Money." -- or mysteriously mangle a perfectly accessible lyric like he has done w/ Strychine

I'm still holding out for "BackStabbers" by The Ojays.

ghostly neutrino - August 15, 2004 07:05 PM (GMT)

Hmmm, possibly amusing adaptations of yanq

ghostly neutrino - August 15, 2004 07:28 PM (GMT)
er sorry

I meant to ask if anyone could offer MES -like revised and britishized lyrics for a likely future Fall cover tune that is of yanqui origin.

Clear as mud?

Different thread. Probably a dumb idea. Sorry again.

usrlocal - August 16, 2004 01:31 AM (GMT)
'Incense and Peppermints' would be delightfully perverse, all things considered...

How'd about "I'm a w*nker!" by Ivor Biggun? :D

... Just a thought.

My pick is actually a real song by a real "artist", although you probably wouldn't know that if you weren't British (and most British people either don't know, or wish they didn't know, too :ohdear: ). You might know this of course, as for all I know Ivor Biggun is, erm, "big" in America*.

Just curious as to whether your choice is also a real artist as well?

* You are from America aren't you? Or am I confusing you with somebody else? In which case sorry.

Big Chief, this is indeed a real song. It was was a smutty, punk ("spunk?") tune from 1978 , and sported a B side called "Tight P*ssy. It seemed to be a genre completelly unto itself; I don't recall any other punk X rated party type novelty records at the time.

The Pork Dukes themselves were a mystery however. at the time it was assumed they were actually an established act having a bit of stoopid off hours fun. I recall press reports claiming, now get this, that the band was actually members of the early 70's Celtic folk- rock band, Steeleye Span!

Yes, I also do remember Ivor Biggun. Your appreciated mention of that odd ditty provoked my Pork Dukes recall. Haven't heard either of those PD songs in better than 25 years -- but lines from the songs still eddy up in my dirty little mind at the oddest moments!

Yes, I'm American, and also an inveterate anglophile.
