I love Edward Scissorhands, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood, and the last half of Mars Attacks!
In that order.
Thought I was going to love his "re-imaginings" of Planet Of The Apes and Willie Wonka - but came out rather disappointed.

1. Edward Scissorhands, still makes me cry.
2. The Nightmare Before Christmas (Directed by Henry Selick :P )
3. Ed Wood (brilliant).

Don't like anything he's done since...

Correct, BK.
But fully titled "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas", so I think we can get away with including it in the canon.

I know. I wasn't arguing, just give credit where credit's due and all that.
Carry on...

I haven't seen the new Batman movie yet, but I can't imagine Heath Ledger will surpass Jack Nickolson's performance as The Joker. Tim Burton's second Batman film was nearly as fabulous as the first, certainly good enough for two votes. My third choice is Sleepy Hollow.

The Nightmare Before Christmas would also be very well worth a vote, but somehow I don't consider it a "real" Tim Burton film.

Ed Wood and some other films listed make me almost forgive him the Planet of the Apes remake.

In my opinion he does. But, taken as a whole, Burton's batman film is a lot more consistent - I still think it's the best batfilm so far.

Probably sleepy hollow or ed wood but I really don't like Burton at all. I find his films visually uninteresting inasmuch as they all look contrived and artificial. I'm distracted by the obvious fakeness of virtually everything you see.

Ledger's Joker craps all over Nicholson's and I really hated Burton's Batman. The new ones are much better.

Beetlejuice, Batman and Ed Wood for me, ta.
Nightmare Before Christmas is nowhere near as good as some make out, imho.

Interesting spread of votes so far.
Which could be interpreted as meaning either:

A. He hasn't made a good movie since the 90s.
B. He hasn't made a good film with Helena Bonham-Carter.

Hmm...

Bigger budgets seem to have had a negative effect on his films...that and Bonham Carter, obviously....

I've never seen Sweeney Todd, was reasonably tempted - quite admired the chutzpah of the cinema ad that didn't let on it was actually a musical.
Is it any good anyone?

Dunno. I wimped out from going not just cos it's a musical, but cos it's full of (sshhheesshhh) graphic throat slitting scenes. ....

My top 3:

- Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Laughed from start to finish. Even the double entendres were funny! And almost shit my pants once. But hey, I was only 32 and still slept with the light on.
- Ed Wood. A great film about the love of filmmaking. The enthusiasm was palpable.
- Sleepy Hollow. Very funny, and what atmosphere.

I thought Big Fish was underrated. Really drew me in.

Ed Wood, Nightmare, & Mars Attacks. I know Mars Attacks really isn't great but I've seen it several times and liked it each time. Should probably have voted for Sleepy Hollow but there you go.

Voting on behalf of our kid...
Nightmare Before Xmas and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Burton does top kids movies.
That could be why some of his adult movies feel like kids movies.
:D
