Description: Albums

I'll go for Yankee Hotel Foxtrot for it's rich texture and great songs. Orginally due for release on September 11th 2001 :o
'Reservations' is a truly beautiful song.

YHF as well, the demo's of it (there's at least two different sets) on the net are quite good too ;)

Well, I like 'em all - so went for the first one. Though in retrospect (which has kicked in after 10 whole seconds) I should have gone for Being There.
Really like the Mermaid Avenue albums they made with Billy Bragg too.

Being There for the songs that make you yell things like "OK Allright!!!" without feeling like a divvy. Sorta like the better Westerburg moments.

I love Wilco. I've seen them about a 1/2 dozen times and every show was excellent. As far as their lp's go it's Being There for me (and not just because I got my copy signed by Jeff Tweedy). However they are all great in their own unique way.............

The only track I listen to is "Say You Miss Me" :ohdear: , I shall rectify later.

I only know the "Mermaid Avenue" records. Where do I start?

I would start with 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot', but then I would!!
I think Tweedy's love of Coltrane, Davis and Coleman start to emerge there and of course Jim O'Rourke's input changes the direction hugely.

^_^
...and I was under the impression that they were some-sort of straight-up country-rock band. Must investigate further...

Oh no, no, no he shakes his head sagely.
Then we get to 'A Ghots is Born' where the Krautrock and white noise get aired.

WILCO peaked on first record. Actually Tweedy peaked on Anodyne, which is better than any of the WILCO records. Saw them in 1995. Tweedy seemed to be upset or crying some of the time, but not really in any sort of emotional sync with what was going on in the music. It made me uncomfortable, but the music was just very good and rocking and tight anyway. I heard the band on Garrison Keillor show this year. Very mannered and refined.
Disclaimer: haven't heard the last two on this list.

I have heard a bit but am still not really into them. Being There has got some nice stuff. Lateron it goes towards Elvis Costello and such. Crafty but not inspiring.
Maybe all i need is a shot in the arm is a good song and funny coming from a junkie.
Maybe I'm spreading rumours. I thought Tweedie was a junkie for a while.

Beer and prescription codeine for migraines. Rock and Roll. ^_^

Ive only got 2, and I consider A Ghost Is Born far superior to YHF.

Out of interest Ian, which one did you hear first?
IanMcC - August 7, 2008 11:24 PM (GMT)
I heard YHF about 2 months before AGIB. I thought it was interesting at the time, but I heard that it was brilliant and was a wee bit disappointed. I think that is why, when I heard AGIB 'cold' I was more impressed. That said, I have revisited YHF and I still find it middling.

One of the best live bands I've seen which took me completely by surprise. Koche is certainly one of the most underrated drummers and the addition of Cline has opened up new realms for the band; especially live.
Overall I like YHF and A Ghost the best as far as studio albums go but I'm voting for Kicking Television as it's one of the best live albums in some time and it closely mirrors the show I saw. I can't decide between the studio albums.

A very fine drummer/percussionist, certainly not your usual 'Heavy Metal Drummer'.
I know he was recently commissioned by the Kronos Quartet to compose a 7 movement composition, Anomaly, which premiered at the 2007 San Francisco Jazz Festival. Any there or heard it?
