Afraid not!

I'll give up when I've exhausted my Pogues singles:

Cracklin' Rosie

Waltzing Matilda

Waltzing Matilda

Correct! The Skids covered it on their 2nd LP - can't say I've ever heard it, thank God.

duckpin236 - August 3, 2008 07:54 PM (GMT)
Shane did a very effective vocal on this. It's pretty much an anti-war song when all the verses are done, which the Pogues did.
Yeah: Crackling Rosie: What could they have been thinking?

bradx - August 3, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
2. Brian Jones Presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka.

Good quiz... tricky.

I much preferred their original 7" version - the Rum, Sodomy and the Lash one seemed a bit over-elaborate in comparison.

3. Both have words by that master lyricist Pete Sinfield
(who can forget his immortal line "the bearded sea-goat casts his runes thru walls of mirrored tears...."? Not from either of those songs tho, I don't think.

Well played sir!

I did wonder if I might have made a bit too obscure -oh well, too late now...

Anyway, the answers will be worth knowing (hopefully!).

Your second instinct was more accurate - although I love the idea of Danny Baker being an arts student at St Martin's!

Oooooooh - no, but he was later at St Martin's so you get a bonus point for that.

#10 - Iggy did a track on The Idiot called Nightclubbing - Human League did a track on their Holiday 80 EP (just prior to Dare) called Nightclubbing.

Not sure if it's the same song or just the title linking...

{Awaiting inevitable mockery... :rolleyes: }

duckpin236 - August 3, 2008 08:17 PM (GMT)
Remember rainmaster, the fun is in the playing so let's put Mr :ohdear: away for a more appropriate occasion and celebrate :D your having taken part and all the joy that comes with that. I'm sure that if Mr Cap weren't so busy he would already have awared you a :rollover: for your fine effort and your taking the time to make such a well informed, though incorrect, guess [it seems],

[you can say,"Of fuck you" if it make you feel better]

Nice lateral thinking but the link I'm looking for is much more macabre.

Actually I've just remembered that my original question stated that the individual concerned is a journalist so I'm afraid that bonus point has been unilaterally withdrawn!

10. The Idiot has been the last record Ian Curtis played before his suicide. Dare was the last album Lester Bangs heard before his death.

All wrong I'm afraid (apart from 10 but that was already answered anyway!) but I'll give you 6 - it was actually a promo that Matador distributed in the states to coincide with the release of The Infotainment Scan.

(Well obviously your answer to 5 is technically correct but I'm looking for something a bit more specific!)

Correct!

But to be more precise, both the Beatles and Zounds had a session drummer imposed on them in the studio by their producer, who felt in each case that the permanent drummer didn’t cut it. While this doesn’t seem too strange in the Beatles case, as they were recording for The Man, it baffles me how Penny Rimbaud squared this rather dictatorial approach with Crass’s ideological commitment to personal autonomy etc!
