Title: Barry George Retrial.
Description: Not Guilty
Sudost36 - August 1, 2008 01:36 PM (GMT)
Barry George Not Guilty. About time; never thought for one minute that the Met had got the right person. Now, I think it was the Serb Secret Service. Perhaps this should go in the Conspiracy theories thread.

Nah. Faked it didn't she. She's shacked up with David Icke in a bunker in Yorkshire. Or so I've heard -_-

The MO of the police, whenever a young woman is murdered, does seem to be to find the nearest odd ball and sitch them up.

Good news. Just cos he's a nutter don't make him a shooter. Although, having done jury service twice I can see only too well how he would have been convicted in the first place.

Yes, my comment was in part self interested.

Smart money - well, some bloke on PM - says prime suspects was a Serbian hit squad getting a soft target in the at-the-time enemy camp.

Brilliant! He can go back to his full time job now - pestering and stalking women in the street.

Hmm.
Be careful. Glass houses. Ever done anything that could look dodgy? I haven't, as it happens. Have you?

Yeah, I agree. Colin Stagg for example.

He has a learning disability. I.Q. of 75 by all accounts. Some of his activities may appear sinister but bear in mind his intellectual capacity is somewhere in the region of a 9yo.

Ho hum...
Is there anything they don't try and blame Serbs for?
Why the diddle-dee-flip would they bother assassinating Jill Dando?

The man reminded us that at the time we were at war with Serbia and that she could have been a high-profile and very easy target for what appeared to be a very professional 'hit'. I'm not offering that as any kind of evidence.

Can you really imagine the heads of the Serbian secret service sitting round thinking how they're going to... what exactly?
"Josip, we must take out Jill Dando of Crimewatch fame - that will stop them bombing us in an instant!"

I can imagine lots of things if I try, but I don't know, I try to avoid speculation. But then.... Norman Wisdom is worshipped like a god in Albania, so who knows what's going on there? Get me the Daily Mail on the phone, now.

You'd also think they might have got round to claiming responsibility afterwards - bit of an oversight, that.

I can't quite see how his iQ has any bearing either way really. And as he was previously convicted for attempted rape (rather than being tried for actual rape, to spare the victim the trauma of giving evidence) I'd say that goes way beyond "appearing sinister".
Let alone his apparent track record for sexual assault, harrassment and stalking. Or his attempted break-in at Kensington Palace, armed with a huge hunting knife (as you do), just after his "attempted" rape.
And when he was arrested, the police found an empty gun holster, a collection of condolence messages to Jill Dando from his neighbours and photographic evidence that he'd had over 400 women under surveillance.
Obviously none of this proves his guilt - and the scientific evidence which led to his original conviction does seem laughably flimsy - but nevertheless the police definitely had much stronger grounds for pursuing him as a potential suspect than they ever did in Colin Stagg's case, say.

I agree with a lot of what you say but his I'Q. has a huge bearing here. Psychologically it appears he is simply not bright enough to be able to plan and carry out such an attack according to professional assessment.
Taken that he's just been aquited of murder I don't think it unreasonable to suggest that perhaps his conviction for attempted rape was equally unsound but without knowing the full details that is obviously just speculation. I believe that was 16 years previously since which he had led a crime free existence.
My main point was that all of his behavioural problems have to be seen in the context of his intellectual capacity...and this was certainly not over emphasised at the time when he was mostly painted as another stereotypical loner nutter who needed to be lobbed in "the bin".
This bloke couldn't even change the film in his camera yet was convicted of masterminding a meticulous murder plan. Perfect material to get "fitted up" by the law and leave all of us thankful that one more "freak" was off the streets.
At least he'll get a well deserved payday.

 Can't help being reminded of this:
Lynn: Alan, I've told you a thousand times, no-one wants to kill you. It defies sense! Why?
Alan: Because I'm a soft target. They're not going to go for the Prime Minister, he's surrounded by bouncers. Yet everyone knows I will be in Swaffham at three p.m., outside the vegetable tent.
I've never been convinced by George's guilt, and have campaigned for his acquittal in many public houses.

I'm certainly not arguing his guilt but I would hardly say that shooting Jill Dando required a criminal mastermind to pull off.

Funnily enough, I was just in the launderette where I read an interview with the rape victim in the Daily Mail which had been left there and it doesn't seem very unsound to me:

Nevertheless a mind that he would appear to not possess.
Yes the rape conviction looks sound alright though I think it's quite right that this was not allowed to have a bearing on the trial.
Fair do's to his sister and her campaign. Without her I imagine he may well still be inside.
No more links to The Mail please....it leaves me feeling dirty
