Title: Your next gig?
Stephen - July 21, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
Following the threads re:
your first and
your most recent gig, what's the
next concert you're going to?
How excited are you? Are you making elaborate travel/social plans? Will you buy a T-shirt? And will you review it for us
here?
Kapitän - July 21, 2008 09:40 PM (GMT)
Iron Maiden comes to town tomorrow...
They were big heroes of mine when I was about 12-14, and I overdosed on their 80's output.
Haven't really listened to them since the late 80's (lost interest after "7th Son...") but it'll be great fun. I expect a spectacular show to be honest, with huge Eddie dolls and pyro bonanza! Apparently they're playing the classics on this tour.
Not to be taken seriously of course, but then again they seem to be pretty tongue in cheek about the whole thing themselves...
Dug out "Powerslave" today, and it still gave me a buzz...
Definitely won't be buying the t-shirt though...
mixstreams - July 21, 2008 10:14 PM (GMT)
my tickets for tom waits arrived today
to say i am excited is a bit of an understatement
i can't sleep
Neal Cassady - July 21, 2008 10:58 PM (GMT)
Butthole Surfers on Wednesday.
Am I excited? More so this time than last time I saw them 20 odd years ago.
Believe me, I was pretty excited then.
Their is a direct ratio between amount of beer one partakes of and splashing out £20 on a t-shirt that shrinks after one wash. So chances are I will be buying one

I await the Fall in their triumphant return to Sydney!
I decided to miss the Tina Turner tribute show at the local on Saturday...
Granny On Bongos - July 22, 2008 11:14 AM (GMT)
The Dickies next week.
My daughter is going so I have prepared a full range of special dances to make her weep with shame and despair.

Butthole Surfers tonight!!
Very very very excited. Just done the Dudley to Walsall return drive and scared a fair percentage of the Black Country by having Locust Abortion Technician blasting out at a ludicrous volume.
Will hold judgement on shirt as already have a Double Live one.... right head turner that is!
Fritter - July 22, 2008 11:21 AM (GMT)
Stockhausen Night at the Proms a week Saturday - yes, kids let's cut a rug!
I'm dead excited as I've never heard Gruppen or Stimmung performed live, I've never attended a Prom before and I'll be sitting in the choir seats - behind the orchestra looking out towards the audience, which should give one a new perspective on the Royal Albert Hall. I know one should Promenade in the arena for the full experience, but frankly, given the choice between sitting and standing for several hours - no contest.
If they are selling T-Shirts I may well buy one, but somehow I doubt it. I'm more concerned about what to wear - I know people don't dress up these days, but surely my usual 'undercover geography teacher' look won't do?
LocoMac- I noticed that Daniel Johnston is playing at London's O2, parts of which are straight out of Blade Runner - I hope it doesn't destroy DJ's mind completely...great backing band though.
Baz - July 22, 2008 11:46 AM (GMT)
The Wedding Present are in Blackpool this Sunday...just 10 miles away from me.
I used to love them ages ago, but I haven't heard anything since 'Seamonsters'...I just don't listen to that much guitar music these days, but whenever they shuffle up on the ipod I quite enjoy it, so I'll probably go for old times sake.
terrywaitesez - July 22, 2008 12:51 PM (GMT)
I'm off to Manchester to see Slayer, Mastodon & Trivium in October.
That's the only one actually booked and payed for. There's a couple of local gigs I am toying with:
Be Your Own Pet
Duff McKagan's Loaded
The Real People
Livewire: The AC/DC Show (not usually into tribute acts, but have heard these lot are shit hot!)

Wonderful, my mate and I went to see Slayer and Slipknot for a laugh - we were the ONLY people in the queue not wearing black - and Slayer were mighty brilliant, totally making the oh-so-scary Slipknot look and sound like The Pastels by comparison - talk about sending boys to do a man's job.
It was about the freindliest atmosphere at a gig I can recall, too.
Drjohnrock - July 22, 2008 01:43 PM (GMT)
While I might possibly see another show in the meantime, I'm definitely going to see Graham Parker in Bowling Green, Ohio--of all places--on September 6. He's playing as part of the annual (I guess) Black Swamp Arts Festival. They close off downtown streets and have various stages for the acts. Best of all, the entitre Festival is FREE, which somewhat offsets the ripoff gasoline price to get there.
A Worried Man - July 22, 2008 03:45 PM (GMT)
I'm thinking of going to Womad at the weekend. I know it has a reputation, but there are some decent bands on and it is just down the road. However, the weather forcast is iffy and I am not sure if I can be arsed.
Billybigbananas - July 22, 2008 04:43 PM (GMT)
I've booked up for this:

so that I can be laughed at by achingly cool youths in skinny jeans.

F'in hell, that's a line-up and a half.
Billybigbananas - July 22, 2008 08:11 PM (GMT)
Think I might be taking the earplugs though, especially for Lightning Bolt - I hear they are fearsomely loud.
Surplus Johnny - July 22, 2008 08:17 PM (GMT)
The Fall, this autumn in London.

I guess it depends where you're standing in relation to where on the floor they've set up. I saw them at the (World's Worst Venue©) Scala and they weren't too loud.
Incredible line-up, I'd love to see Shellac (although for some reason they've never grabbed me on record like Big Black), but I'm not sure if I've got the stamina :(
Billybigbananas - July 22, 2008 08:22 PM (GMT)
Oh, go on - you'll regret it otherwise.
I'll even buy you a can of Redbull if you like
Fritter - July 22, 2008 08:28 PM (GMT)
I might well give it a try. I'll go dressed as a computer to scare Albini.
anonyarena - July 22, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
The next gig I'm goint to is tomorrow night. And it's my own band that's playing.
Neal Cassady - July 22, 2008 08:52 PM (GMT)
In addittion to the Buttholes tomorrow evening ~ I have just purchased ticket to see Acid Mothers Temple on August 10th in Manchester :applaud:

Faust Banana - July 22, 2008 09:00 PM (GMT)

If there is one thing about living here it is that. that is why we all fuck off overseas for a while to fill our boots. I saw heaps of gigs when living in England 89-91 including the Fall whenever they came to London. looking forward to the Breeders as I saw the Pixies 3 or 4 times and they were always fantastic :D
