Title: What if The Fall wasn't named The Fall?
Description: Other names 4 them

Cleanville Tziabatz - July 4, 2008 03:25 PM (GMT)
If Landslide Victory Dave had not chosen to name the band as "The Fall," what name would you have chosen for them. To focus your thinking, you may want to consider Fall song titles and lyrics.

For example, I think The Fall would be just as well-named if they were named:

Industrial Estate

or

Stop Mithering.

duckpin236 - July 4, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
Industrial Estate does it for me  good one
For alternatives, people may want to visit the song name link thread where a dozen or more alternatives are listed in the last few pages.

Mark E. Smith & The Gruppe

Mopiranger - July 4, 2008 03:45 PM (GMT)
I believe they were almost called the outsiders ,but another band had taken that name. Would've been fitting.
Maybe they could have named themselves after a Sartre book instead. I propose "Nausea", "No exit" or "a criticique of dialectical reasoning"

I guess that was aonther Camus reference. Speaking of whom, maybe they could have chosen The Plague, The Misunderstanding, or Victims and Exectutioners. On the whole I think they made a good choice.

Well, MES and TF were working their way through Camus titles, weren't they? And had found out there was already a band called The Strangers, so...

The Silent Men
The Guests
The Plague
The Artists At Work
The First Man/Men
The Possessed
The Just Assassins
The Misunderstanding
The Rebels
A Happy Death
Betwixt And Between
The Crisis Of Man
The Renegade - No, best save the last one til you write yer memoirs...

FAT BLOB - July 4, 2008 06:15 PM (GMT)
funny. all the suggestions would be for a group that would be flash-in-the-pan footnotes to punk history. I doubt any incarnation of the group would be around today if they had named themselves "industrial estate". THE FALL, as a name, is so perfect...general, universal, mysterious and subtlely ominous.

I always thought the camus association was not quite right for The Fall. It is a good name, but not perfect largely for that reason.

Didn't MES say that people thought of England as "flat caps and flat beer?" The Flat Beer might not have been that bad. The Mushy Peas would have been too, errr, corny.
