One of the all-time greats and he was British (yes he was!)! :devil2:
Not many films, but most of them were genius.
I vote 'Sweet Smell of Success' - greed, power, incest, pinko Clifford Odets re-writing the script in a blacked-out hotel room out of his eyeballs on speed!!! One of the greatest American movies ever made. Endlessly quotable script. Great Elmer Bernstein score and career-best performances from Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis.
"Match me, Sidney!" :D
I loved the Man In The White Suit as a nipper, especially the sound his laboratory makes (an early tape-loop?), and it was only recently pointed out to me that here is a film with no goodies in it.
But I also remember enjoying The Ladykillers too, so I dunno. I guess MITWS is less repetitive, so it gets my vote.
Sweet Smell of Success for me. One of the best films of the period full stop.
Match me, Sidney. That gets my vote.
'Sweet Smell of Success' is on BBC in less than an hour (12:20)!!!
Watch it, Sidney.
Genius!!
