Title: Making a Fall CD for a friend
Description: How do I end it?

elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 09:33 PM (GMT)
Pretty self-explanatory.
I'm - hey! - making a CD of The Fall for a friend who's kind of interested, intrigued by the popular Northern beat combo.
In strict chronological order, but I'm stuck on how to end it.
He likes punky music with crashing guitars and Electro.
Your tips on tracks from FHR, R-PLTLC or IWS that sum up the still mightiness of The Fall groop, please.
I've tried to do this before and just end up throwing them in the bin...

The final song has to be either

Fall Sound
Blindness (Peel)

I wouldn't put an IWS track at the end, as much as I love the LP as a whole...any song off it will be an anti-climax after the above two,
Call me a cunt, I shall take no notice. -_-

GraemeLovesPinkLady - June 24, 2008 09:40 PM (GMT)
Midnight Aspen - it's good and shows a different side to the group.

elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 09:42 PM (GMT)
Yeah, was finking it had to be Fall Sound...

Dice Man - June 24, 2008 09:48 PM (GMT)
What about the instrumental Systematic Abuse from Cricklewood 07?

Yeah, I was thinking that if it was going to be a RPTLC track, then a live version would be better.

Mopiranger - June 24, 2008 10:01 PM (GMT)
And this day, natch ;)

snoweyuk - June 24, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't try to persuade anyone to get into The Fall via a live recording personally.

Also, most of RPTLC is substandard as far as the Fall gruppe goes.

So why end it with anything from it?

I'd say Exploding Chimney was as good a Punky Electro Splurge as any, and bang up to date!

elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
I think White Line Fever is a good song to end a CD on...

Yes, that's a good idea!

elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 10:47 PM (GMT)
He's getting this.

Bingo Master's Breakout
Totally Wired
Lie Dream Of A Casino Soul
Fantastic Life
I Feel Voxish
The Classical
The Man Whose Head Expanded
Slang King
Living Too Late
Jerusalem
Bill Is Dead
Feeling Numb
Lost In Music
A Lot Of Wind
Edinburgh Man
Ed's Babe
And Therein
Touch Sensitive
White Line Fever

What do you think?
Kinda representative.
At least of what I like.
Obviously, it was agonising trying to get it down to 75 minutes of music...
But I think it's a pretty good intro, in fact, I'm going to listen to it now.
x

If it were me, I'd dump "Jerusalem" and "A Lot of Wind"

Get something from Unutterable in there instead, and also The Real New Fall LP.

Something like:

Cyber Insekt
&
Sparta, or Mountain Energei

If it were me, I'd scratch the fucking lot and start again! <_<

No, it's a great list! Let us know what they think of it!

elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 10:55 PM (GMT)
Okay, thanks.
I'm torn about both Jerusalem and Wind - think you're right, they're probably just personal favourites that other people probably won't get.
But I never got Sparta.
Decisions, decisions...

What sort of music do they like? It might give you some idea of what to leave out/put in.

elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 10:57 PM (GMT)
Two Librans, then.
Incidentally, I appear to be the only person here who thinks Pumpkin Soup is an absolute hoot...

Something off Levitate!!!!!
Ol' Gang? Doc Shanley?
What about Crop Dust???

elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 11:04 PM (GMT)
I'm going with Snowey.
Cyber Insekt! Cyber Insekt!
Just played Two Librans, and remembered how I don't get it as a classic Fall song.
Same with Dr Buck's Letter.

No

I love it too

elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 11:09 PM (GMT)
Wasn't there a recent thread saying it was the worst Fall song EVER!!!
Anyway, he's now getting this little musical biscuit.

Bingo Master's Breakout
Totally Wired
Lie Dream Of A Casino Soul
Fantastic Life

Slang King

Got rid of Jerusalem, but keeping Wind - cause it makes me feel happy.
So there.

elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 11:32 PM (GMT)
I'm not putting fucking Aqua in there, BK!

That should be "You're a cunt", surely?

Buy Kurious! - June 25, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
Apostrophe!
"You're a cunt"
At least have a pop at me with correct grammar, HEH. :D

Oh, and Tommy Shooter is shit in comparison to the other two! :finger:

Bollocks! You beat me to it.... :(

stevoid - June 25, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
I'd go for Hot Runes, Youwanner and Wolf kidult Man to end

Hostile - June 25, 2008 08:28 PM (GMT)
Either Backdrop or Words of Expectation or The N.W.R.A. or Music Scene. It's gotta be a long one.

EDC - June 25, 2008 08:35 PM (GMT)
I think disneys dream debased, but only if paintwork is close by..

the problem i find is, when making a compilation, i wonder if they will listen as far as the end - if im convinced they will, then definitely disneys dream.. it will happily haunt them afterwards!

Did you give him the CD, elvis?
Did he like it?
Did it have any live tracks on it?
Will Hex En Hour ever correct his typo?
Is a big-dog's fanny any fanny-er than a small one's?
Tune in next time for the answers....and more....

Slowly Slowly Catchee Monkey gets you the golden dogs bollocks, so tread carefully to begin with

Drjohnrock - June 25, 2008 10:39 PM (GMT)
There are quite a few good suggestions in this thread for the final song. I would, however, not totally end the CD with the song but add a brief spoken word bit, as follows: "As the preceding masterpieces demonstrate, The Fall is the coolest group ever, and if you don't agree then you're a shitass."

BikeBloke - June 25, 2008 10:51 PM (GMT)
Just one question: Why Feel Voxish when you could Smile instead?

I'm still deliberating on the final track listing.
I prefer feeling voxish to smiling.
