Title: Singles (Suede)
Description: poll's in fashion?
Buy Kurious! - June 24, 2008 02:59 PM (GMT)
Yay for polls!
Yay for singles!
My favourite Suede single is....'The Drowners'!
Fritter - June 24, 2008 03:06 PM (GMT)
It's been a while but I remember hearing 'Trash' and feeling a bit like I'd had a hit of amyl, which was nice.
I'm afraid Brett's wankiness started to eclipse the music pretty soon after that.
Still, you have to respect any rock star with a name like Neil Codling.

I know MES categorically denied that 'Glam Racket' was in-part about Suede, but he was at least a fan in the early days, wasn't he?
Bobby part 2 - June 24, 2008 03:26 PM (GMT)
Has a very punchable face, that singer.
Stranger - June 24, 2008 03:55 PM (GMT)
I can't say I've chosen to listen to anything by them since the mid 90's.
But a good 'britpop' band as they went.
I went for Metal Mickey.
There were some as good as and better b sides on their early singles tho.
Buy Kurious! - June 24, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
Agree about the b-sides, 'My Insatiable One', 'The Living Dead', etc are as good as, if not better than, some of the a-sides.
'Trash' is great! :applaud: Probably off their last great LP.
They created a very impressive body of work, which is more than most can say...punchable face or not....

I was genuinely disappointed that this didn't have that "ooby ooby ooby" robot on it. And I've not forgiven them yet.
Stranger - June 24, 2008 04:03 PM (GMT)
That early one with the lyric about riding your bicycle was good.
re My Insatiable One, got two other versions around that time - both good and worth having too.
the very Hunky Dory-ish piano demo ... that was on the same 'Volume' book/CD that had the Fall's Arid Al's Dream on.
Then the live version on, I think, a Glastonbury live CD that came out around '94 or so.

Awful, awful band. It's a measure of how awful Britpop was that this awful band were far from being the most awful of the crop. The vast majority of British "indie" guitar music from the entire 1990s should be buried in a lead box at the bottom of the Marianas Trench. Worst decade ever, by miles and miles. I'm so glad it's not then any more.

Oh stop being such an old sourpuss.
Come and join us on the "Best Of Menswear" thread. We're having such a fun debate. :applaud:

Gotta be 'So Young', the first one I heard, for me.
I can still vividly remember how I got major shivers down my spine from that first crashing guitar chord... :applaud:
'Trash' also put a stupid grin on my face first time I heard the chorus...

Huh, my "Who Loves Elastica?" thread didn't last very long.
Buy Kurious! - June 24, 2008 06:05 PM (GMT)
Come on, Elastica were great!!!
God, it must be terrible being old and cynical... :P
:devil2:
Seeing as you asked; my fave britpop bands:
Blur
Elastica
Pulp
Gene (the best of all!!!)
Suede
Orlando (they were!)
Fritter - June 24, 2008 06:11 PM (GMT)
I knew the bass player in Suede when he was still a subtitler at Ceefax*, and the drummer out of Elastica when he was a runner at Music Box - both super blokes and I wish them well, have a soft spot for both their bands.
*When my mate Joe asked him when did you first feel famous, he replied "When I was in the bath one night, drinking champagne and doing coke while watching myself on Top Of The Pops" Yep, that would do it :D
Edit: (never heard of Orlando)

Well, I don't think
Orlando were strictly a "Britpop band", but they were better than fucking Oasis. -_-
Gene were the best of all, though!! :devil2:
Hmmm, I doubt a Gene poll will have many takers though. <_<
Your loss! -_-

Don't get me started!!!
If you've ever tried to buy Gene stuff off ebay, those other "Gene"'s are a fucking nightmare!! grrrr
erm...just watched some old Orlando vids on BoobTube....they weren't as good as I remember (I was 14!!), but they're still better than Oasis! :devil2:
Anyways, Suede: good band. The Tears: utter bilge! <_<

You're forgiven. :)
Romo boy.
Buy Kurious! - June 24, 2008 06:40 PM (GMT)
I've just received an email from Archibald Sly of Hove and I'd just like to say for the record that,
i) Orlando were never a Britpop band and,
ii) Zoot Horn Polo esq. is not now, nor has he ever been, a fan of Oasis.
Thank you.

Romo!!
Zoot Horn Polo - June 24, 2008 06:47 PM (GMT)
Who were the other Romo bands? There were 3 or 4, weren't there?
I would have heard their names at the time. But would have forgotten them five minutes later.

Well, I remember
Plastic Fantastic and
Sexus were another (apparently)...erm...can't remember the other one(s)....
I found this on YouTube, a report on
The Sunday Show!!! - I remember that! Makes me feel old.
Anyways, what a bunch of wankers! ^_^
I'd just like to deny any impression I may have given of being a fan of Romo.
* the vid is mildly interesting for the appearance at 2.10 of "Fashion Writer" Lowri Turner!?!! ^_^
My Balloon - June 24, 2008 08:12 PM (GMT)
I've said it before but first two albums with Butler were great, then it went downhill fast.
Love the energy of Animal Nitrate but the real killer for me is The Wild Ones, beautiful song that sweeps and soars on Butler's wonderful guitar. :applaud:
elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 08:18 PM (GMT)
I hate Suede, on account of Brett being such a twat/twit.
Liked Trash, though.
Still love Orlando.
Still see Dickon at clubs and gigs, a fascinating man...
Buy Kurious! - June 24, 2008 08:40 PM (GMT)
Dickon! teehee, snigger..
Why do people come into my polls and hate on the topic....
Such cynicism is beyond me, quite frankly... -_-
elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 08:43 PM (GMT)
Cause you asked us our opinion, BK?

I asked what is your favourite Suede single...at no point did I ask "Is there anyone here who hates Suede and wants to PISS ON MY PARADE!!!"
:D
Just kidding....hmmm, you're right as always, Brett Anderson is a total cunt; but I likes the early Suede stuff, so :finger:

This may seem a bizarre tangent to anyone but BK, but have you tried soya milk with your coffee etc?
You get sweetened ones - sweetened with apple juice.
Some are muck, but there are some good ones, honest.
I could make you a list.
How are you sleeping?

Not good. :(
I did try soya milk a few years ago...I remember it being quite sweet.
I've been putting ordinary sugar in my coffee for the last few days, but I drink too much for that....
elvischomsky - June 24, 2008 09:19 PM (GMT)
Erm, maybe it's the coffee keeping you awake, BK?

It does play merry hell with your teeth a few years down the line.
Even if you only snort it.
Did I tell you I had that Badly Drawn Boy in the back of my cab once?
Left a pair of dentures and a stupid hat...
