Title: Need some fall advice..........
Description: How to make a booking (merged)

pearl - June 13, 2008 11:57 AM (GMT)
I am hoping someone can help me. Does nyone know the acceptable route regarding booking The Fall for a live performance. Also some indication of fee would be really helpful as well. I need to make this happen.

From the note from former Fall Impressario Alan Wise, Fall News 12 May 08:

Therefore due to senility and dementia I think I have been retired as Impressario? And sadly after 30 years behind the scenes I must take my leave of our beloved leader and pass the baton on to a younger man... my former assistant mr Simon Taylor e mail genesimon@hotmail.com

Make sure you stipulate some kind of start time for the gig or they don't get paid.

I've asked to to play my wedding in August, not had a reply back yet, but just bear in mind that early August may be booked up.

money is a sensitive subject, obviously. Not to dig too much into the Fall's finances, but...I remember years ago, back in 93 or so, when MES was quoted in the NME or MM as saying Kurt Cobain asked the Fall to support them. MES said he wanted...it was either 3K or 10K (I *think* the latter?)...at that time the Fall were playing big gigs more regularly. He exclaimed that Kurt said they (Nirvana, obviously) didn't even get that themselves (which if true would have been very bad, considering their standing / concert pull at that time).

I'd be surprised if some of the smaller gigs could command multiple thousands in fees, given the ticket cost and the fact the venue would surely want a large slice, unless they use drink takings to cover band costs?

A sensitive subject admittedly tho.

I run a gig guide and I occasionally get asked if I can 'book' people or give them a gig...not interested in going into that, open mics are hard enough work and I get tinitus a lot. :o

PS *if* this enquiry were serious, ask The She Creatures to play support.

:devil2:

pearl - June 17, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
Yeah its absolutely serious. The booking, should it come off is in the North East. Do the She Creatures have Myspace etc.... if so drop me a PM and i'll have a listen.

¿The Question Mark? - June 17, 2008 09:22 PM (GMT)
North East? You mean Newcastle? You do know the gruppe usually charge double for doing Newcastle?

pearl - June 17, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
I had heard that rumour. Was'nt it following some quasi riot a while back? and no it would'nt be Newcastle it would be Sunderland at a venue called Independent. Holds about 600. A dark room that sounds amazing and offers a stirling range of potatoe based snacks.

Oh I'd much rather repeat their link in public :D

their video of 'Sexy Robot' just as quick as youtube, but better quality : :)

Dunno if they'd want to play so far north either?

I don't know them personally. Then again if you like them, and you ask them the money's right, who knows?

I'd almost be tempted to make the pilgrimage myself to see The Fall and The She Creatures on the same bill :D. Not sure MES would see the funny side of them tho.

Good luck Pearl.

Is the venue near a Metro station?

Has your venue got a website - and more importantly some interesting gigs coming up?

pearl - June 18, 2008 06:11 PM (GMT)
It is within spitting distance of a Metro station and has numerous gigs which some may find interesting. Queer old place actually that often attracts crowds for the most mind boggling reasons. Loaded style bands like The Dogs, The Zutons blah blah blah do very well. Wheras bands like Final Fantasy, Deerhoof et al just seem to do enough to break even. Thes the brakes I suppose. The website should you choose to peruse it is www.independentsunderland.com

Right I best get on with it then.

Who the hell are you marrying? Does this woman know what might happen? Good lord man, you are asking the devil to eat his own tail. Your guts are admirable and I hope for what happens.
Balls indeed, balls indeed....

:-) Of course the woman I'm marrying doesn't like the Fall (except for Mr Pharmacist) , but that's ok, coz I don't think MES will get a bus down to Baguley. Getting hitched in Ireland & having the party in South Manchester. You never know though, I've asked the venue for an extra beer wagon just in case.

You are a brave, brave man, betting the bat to grin. No matter what happens here, I think things will go well for you. Cheers and congrats!

The Fall have played at someone's wedding before, though. I'm absolutely certain of it. Not too long ago either.

I'm not imaging this am I? Please, tell me I'm not imagining this....
