Title: Imperial Wax Solvent vs. Von Südenfed
Description: Which is the better album?

twinz2z - June 8, 2008 04:45 PM (GMT)
Just saw a comment on Von Sudefed being superior to Imperial Wax.
Not sure myself, both have shortish songs,
but are they too different to compare?
Taken in isolation, im not sure I could decide.

Tough one. IWS has the edge...I think.

IWS, Von Sundenfed is un-listenable

Von Sudenfed was a fine diversion, but IWS is back to business, and with a vengeance!

BTW, where are the poll options, eh? eh?

Well so often people vote, then dont post anything, so I thought it would make a change.
+ I might have had to include cant decide, too early, not comparable, etc.
Still cant decide myself, their too different.

IWS, easily better...........

psychocandy - June 9, 2008 07:57 AM (GMT)
von südenfed is better.

Von Sudenfed is a good side project starring MES.
Imperial Wax Solvent is a bells and whistles Fall album with MES in the lead roll, co-starring a few brickies and a Greek.
Think IWS takes this one...

I've got time for the Von Sudenfed, but it's not The Fall all said and done.

Just an interesting collaboration is all.

I.W.S. for me everytime

No contest. IWS

The VS has a couple of good tracks, 1 OK one and that's about it.

IWS is basically a rock album which draws upon electronica, has far superior material to work with, and when there's an experimental flourish, it's never tedious or self-indulgent, eg 50 Year Old Man & Taurig.

I just don't see what the fuss is about the VS album at all; most of it sounds like the doodlings that Dan's flatmate in Nathan Barley would come up with. :D

It's Von Sudenfed for me - but it's close, as it seems to have galvinised MES into his best Fall album for a decade with IWS.

Since Imperial Wax Solvent is like shit to my ears , then the Von Sudenfed wins by default. Although I don't like all Von Sudenfed either.

I think I might wait til the fall change lineup before I watch em again.

IWS by a country mile.
VS is still good but IWS if The Fall, maaaannnnnn....
;)

Tromatic Reflexxions was a very interesting diversion and a better record than RPTLC, but IWS is a great 21st Century Fall record. I hope VS do some more stuff.

FAT BLOB - June 10, 2008 06:04 PM (GMT)
Von Sudefed. I put it on again the other day and I though- wow, this is really good, interesting weird. Whereas...even though IWS is good...I just don't have time for it.

I really like the Von Südenfed album. However I need to be in a certain mood to fully enjoy it. Sometimes it just passes by without doing much for me and merely acts as background music.

On the other hand IWS is a 24/7 record.

I foud my copy of Von Sudenfed in a bag beside a rubbish bin, no kidding, outside
the offices of the 'Scotsman' newspaper. It was a promo copy in a card sleeve, it
had obliviously been sent for review ansd had been dumped, along with a load of
other cd promos.
My verdict ? I certainly wouldn't have dumped it but IWS wins by
a mile.

stuartjewkes - July 23, 2008 11:31 AM (GMT)
They are both equal in my eyes, both far superior to RPTLC.

Baz - July 23, 2008 12:19 PM (GMT)
For me, I prefer Von Sudenfed, and if The Fall ceased to be and Von Sudenfed became full-time, I honestly wouldn't be too sorry.

Sound like the words of brazen heretic / tasteless buffon? Maybe. But all I want is MES singing over really good music. With The Fall as they stand at the moment, I only get the first part of that wish, but with Von Sudenfed, I get both. Huzzah!

Because the Fall haven't had a stable lineup for ages, I don't feel any 'closer' to them than I would do any other 'side project' MES might get involved with...these days, it's all just MES making music with various people, and I just happen to prefer the less guitary stuff he did with VS.

'The Fall'?..... 'Von Sudenfed'?...... I don't care what the blummin thing is called, as long as MES carries on, that's the main thing.

I have come to appreciate RPTLC since attaining the Narnack version.
A nice trilogy.
