Title: A Farewell to Mr Alan Wise?
Description: Is it true?
elvischomsky - May 19, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
Not too sure what to make of Alan Wise's comment on the news page, but if he's going I'll miss him.
My enduring memory will be of going to see The Fall the last time they played The Galtymore.
We'd been drinking in the street to save money.
I'd reserved tickets over the phone, went to pick them up, and Alan Wise was on the door.
I was so excited in a sad fan way I just shouted out; "Hello Alan!!!"
He smiled and waved all me and my mates in.
Never asked about our tickets.
Cool man.
I even think he sounded fun from reading Nico: Songs They Never Play On The Radio.
Oh, and is "Doctor Annabelle Lies" an Alan Wise reference?
The Acute - May 19, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
Alan Wise had the bouncers silence me and my mate at the Bilston "gig" on the last tour for doing a bit of shouting.
I hope they get somebody who will get Smith in a fireman's lift and chuck him on stage at an earlier time, and somebody who will stop him walking off and disappearing off stage when he's supposed to be working.

is he the one with the stupid hat off BBC4 doc?

Alan Wise came across as many things from that book. "Fun" is not one of them.

The thought of him dressed as a lady.
Funny, if not "fun"...

Alan Wise is a nice bloke, even to groupies. He's been pretty good to the fans, selling cheaper tickets when he could.
Sounds like he's had enough.
brixtonblue - May 19, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
He let me into the Croydon Cartoon gig after the ticket agency had screwed up my tickets. Nice man, I thought.
John Ludicrous - May 19, 2008 09:11 PM (GMT)
An entertaining and generous man. As he told us, he started at the top and has worked his way down.
Smudger - May 19, 2008 09:14 PM (GMT)
He sells reasonably priced tickets from his home address.
And he takes cheques. Seems like a good egg.
Don't know the bloke from Adam but got the impression he's always behind The Fall.
Well except for Jerry Lee etc etc.
Sudost36 - May 20, 2008 06:47 AM (GMT)
He was always friendly whenever I met him on the door, and I wish him all the best for the future.
Dave The Fall Fan - May 20, 2008 07:28 AM (GMT)
He seems a cheerful, if cynical chap, from what I could ascertain. Good luck, Alan. I think I gave him a can of beer at the Pallais - he looked like he needed it more than me.

Smith-Wise notes landing....
Somehow this seems different than the usual slapping....
Kapitän - May 20, 2008 09:41 AM (GMT)
I wonder if this is completely unrelated to Wise's 'revealing' conference talk?
High Tension Line - May 20, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
Well, good luck to him. It can't have been the easiest job in the world.
I was with a number of Fall fans from this board at the Hammersmith Palais last year who turned up with tickets only to be told by the bouncers the place was full so we can't come it. What sort of venue is this? It's a good job Alan Wise was around to sort it out and make sure we got in as they were not going to budge otherwise.
Glad they knocked the place down.

Is he? I heard he moved to Moldova a few weeks ago - hence his radio show is off air.

Yeah, but I wonder, the april article said the MES-Blaney EP would be released end of that month. It's not like MES to record songs with old pals. Also, acoustic songs? Current affair lyrics? I'm not very excited about all this, but who knows how it will turn out.
I wish he'd hop back to germany and record the next fall album and von sudenfed back to back.

I've met Alan Wise a couple of times, found him charming.
He obviously holds Mark in high regard. Always seems reassuring to me that he is about somehow.
Don't like the idea of Ed B. being back in the fold again. Time will tell, of course.
Exopsychicton - May 24, 2008 08:58 AM (GMT)
It's all too incestuous weird to have an opinion about, especially considering I've never met any of these mysterious characters at all, ever... The more I peer into my cerebral telescope, the more it seems like Manchester/Salford is a very small town indeed. The safe money as far as brokers/managers/'impressarios' is that they will likely be back after being sent off for a tune up, and/or being sidelined for the current obsession.
