The Starfires - an obscure record but very big with collectors as this mournful garage/psych ballad goes for mega $$$s. Thousands.
A really wonderful song and production which is to be found on Psychedelic Unknowns Vol. 2/ or the Pebbles vol.8 LP.
What makes it great is the singer's distress which is palpable + the chugging chord progression, heavily doom-laden.... and finally the brittle production which couches the whole thing within an intense sense of unease.

Signed D.C.
I suppose Bobby G wouldn't have listed such a striking anti-drug song in the 80s or 90s...

Can't I just listen to Screamadelica and XTRMNTR? Why complicate the matter?

He might as well have just picked a Rolling Stones album from the early 70's as that's all he seems to listen to.

Youtubed all these and that Link Wray track is rather good,
though he copies Petes style of guitar on 'Is this New'.

Signed DC : it's Nights in White Satin (cept loads better) innit? Hope Arthur got royalties for it.
I would like to say I've heard the other non-pistols songs. I hope to. Mark can't have tripped over Primal Scream's recording studio LP piles for nothing......

He's like somebody's dodgy uncle now, this guy. There's an age after which the r'n'r sleaze myth he's bought into ceases to look good on a fellow. I thought the stuff he had to say about Kim Fowley ("his drug was young girls", story about Fowley getting head from a 15 year old etc) was interesting (brave/stupid?) in the current paedos-under-the-bed climate of mild hysteria. I'll be expecting the RSPCA to be contacting the Daily Mail about it forthwith.
