Get your tickets early, it's fairly small inside with tables and chairs to sit down at. They had it at the Bath Festival last year, I saw some comedians there.

Hasn't anyone told you? Brix and Hanley Bros are back in the band, and Craig is the roadie.

freeranger - May 15, 2008 07:06 PM (GMT)
tickets booked. they are selling fast according to the waterford girl in the booking office. the tent is going to be outside the opera house. i'd advise ringing the office to book tickets, when i tried online earlier today it was a shambles. needless to say it took a deise girl to sort it all out, cork langers
mantpl - May 16, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
Got my ticket :)
Freeranger we'll have to meet up. I'm not on for mingling with Cork langers reminicing about the Shed :cry2: and Sir Henry's :cry2:
:zzzz:
freeranger - May 17, 2008 12:33 AM (GMT)
 definitely! ive been looking at pubs close to the venue but i cant honestly say if they are up to much. its not that far a walk from oliver plunkett st where i know there are some good ones though
mikeyboy - May 17, 2008 11:10 AM (GMT)
My Cork contact is getting my ticket today :) There are some god pubs on Oliver Plunkett street and nearby.

maybe you would prefer to reminisce about the time when people were able to spell correctly lol
first time i ever played live in public was in sir henry's. great venue. sad to see it go (particularly when its demise was related specifically to economics: cheaper to book a dj: and what did they get: a decade of 'deep' house: thank christ that is all over now)
as for the shed: part of the demise of the terrace in football culture in general. now you have to sit with people wearing man utd jerseys who wouldn't go to a football match until it became an extension of the facilities available in their front rooms: to a person, they moan about there being no action replays and spend most of their time talking their way through the matches, subject being, in the main, the premiership
will probably be on holiday on the 3rd of july so will have to go up to donegal (still, that could be great fun too
whole spiegeltent thing is so small, the band should go drinking with the fans before and after the gig (I thought there was actually a bar in the tent but i could be wrong). going to get my ticket this afternoon for faust who are also playing there
mantpl - May 18, 2008 08:33 AM (GMT)
:ohdear: I'm still suffering the consequences of a BAD EDUCATION
I spent five years in UCC (87-91) and spent many a night in Sir Henry's -Sweat was good to experience but my preference was for Tight on a Friday night. Would be really interested in seeing the documentary on Sir Henry's.
is it available anywhere?
There used to be some alright pubs on Union Quay - Donkeys Ears being one. Looking forward to Cork gig

That's a complete load of bollocks. They had it in Bath on Friday night for the start of the festival. DJ Derek in the house! We went down there and it was actually quite large, it must be some kind of modular construction because it did seem a lot bigger than the last time.
As you were.
marvell78 - May 28, 2008 09:03 PM (GMT)
got tickets today after delaying holidays to make sure i will still be here in cork
guy in the booth said there were plenty left but that they were selling
tent is small (marquee in the showgrounds is huge by comparison)
it comes here every year (and always wonder how they can make a profit out of such a small venue
SteveHamilton - May 28, 2008 09:08 PM (GMT)
Sale of drinks! We got kicked out of there yesterday afternoon for sitting around with our own cans and wine.

marvell78 - June 20, 2008 11:28 AM (GMT)
i think the support act for this gig will be
don for chickens
who is mick lynch formerly of one of the many five go down to the sea (http://phoenixhairpins.blogspot.com/2007/01/five-go-down-to-sea.html) tribute bands called stump
Thirdpoliceman1 - June 24, 2008 10:06 PM (GMT)
Not sure about the support act being a Five Go Down To The Sea trribute.
Mick Lynch (Mean Features 70s and 80s / Stump 80s / Don For Chickens now) was a contemporary of FGDTTS and far more likely to do his own stuff.
In fact one of the support acts the first time The Fall played Cork had the unlikely PiL-referring name Chant! Chant! Chant! It's a long time ago (1980 - agh) I do have a faint memory Mick Lynch had something to do with em....
Looking forward to this - haven't seen them since I was living in Mancland :-)
Thirdpoliceman1 - June 25, 2008 12:42 AM (GMT)
For anyone not familiar with the town, here's a
map of Cork mainly listing decent pubs cos that's what most chat on the forum seems to be about.

I suspect Marvell78 was referring in a slightly tongue-in-cheek way to the fact that FGDTTS were considered the entire progenitors of the 80s Cork scene. But only he knows for sure.

Oh christ that's embarrasing - I've turned into someone who has to have humour explained. "FGDTTS tribute band" really should have been a clue, and thank you for pointing it out so gently. Maybe I should swap my tickets and go see Paul Simon instead... :-)
Re tickets - bizarrely, the promoters have been giving away comps this week.
marvell78 - June 28, 2008 07:25 PM (GMT)
was being tongue in cheek
we really got a dose of all this kind of thing (quirky cork, fgdtts clones)
it wasnt great then, it isnt great now, believe me
imagine coming from dublin and having to endure all those U2 style bands
think that gives you some idea of what was going on here (or , i suppose, anywhere where you have one clear talent and lots of pale imitations...not that i am , for one moment suggesting that U2 have anything other than a talent for finding tax havens or leeching on to any scene that happens to be on the go at any particular time lol
i would have preferred the promotor to have given new talent a go but obvioulsy he has friends and favours to distribute (i mean, the favours to distribute not the friends, although, who knows, maybe he has a few extra, i don't know
mikeyboy - July 1, 2008 07:17 PM (GMT)
Any pre-gig meet up planned?
mantpl - July 1, 2008 07:25 PM (GMT)
I'm on for it.
Where do you suggest mikeyboy?

How about An Brog on Oliver Plunkett St.? It's central enough and most people should be able to find it.
mantpl - July 1, 2008 09:10 PM (GMT)
Sounds good. I'll be there.
