Title: The Byrds Play Dylan

I'm polling the expanded 2002 version of this, not the original 1980 release. Pretty good stuff except for the all-over-the-shop (choir and all) Lay Lady Lay.

Just Like A Woman is especially lovely.

(Can't seem to listen to anything except The Byrds today).

Spanish Harlem Incident-such a weird little song made to seem so effortlessly normal. :applaud:

Lordy, I knew McGuinn had a thing about doing Dylan songs, but I had no idea they recorded this many, thanks for the tip. I would have to vote, for now, for My Back Pages, since Younger Than Yesterday is the only LP of theirs I can find at the moment.

As a collection it's nice (agree with lay Lady lay being completely overblown) but as an album doesn't hold together.
Nice when one of the tracks come sup on "shuffle"

At the risk of dullness, has to be Tambourine man.
That guitar; lovely.

When I look at the tracklist I occurs to me that I prefer The Byrds' versions of more than half of these songs. Makes me forgive a couple of superfluous renditions.

"My Back Pages" happens to be one of my all time favourite recordings, so I just had to go for it. Otherwise it would have been either "All I Really Want to Do" or "Lay Down Your Weary Tune".

I certainly like *some* of the Byrds renditions...the early ones at least.

Lay Down Your Weary Tune is a nice one indeed.

I used to love All I Really Want To Do.

Still do.

But it sounds rather ordinary compared to the more event-like rendition by Cher.

Bit trainspotterish, but I seem to remember both got to no.4 in the charts.

The sort of chart trivia that would give Paul Gambacini an orgasm if it were true. :D

:devil2:

The two that stand out for me are Mr Tambourine Man and All I really Want To Do.

I especially like the coda on All I Really Want To Do as Orange Juice wouldn't have existed without that 10 seconds.
