Description: "Newly discovered" soundboard recording
zigor33 - February 26, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
Apologies if this has already been mentioned.Monstrously good soundboard recording of V U 1967 vintage available online as of friday 22nd of Febuary. It can be found at Dimeadozen and
http://www.velvetunderground.be/index.php.
Tracklist;
1 - I'm Not A Young Man Anymore
2 - Guess I'm Falling In Love
3 - I'm Waiting for the Man
4 - Run Run Run
5 - Sister Ray
Difficult to believe that such a pristine recording could be from 1967 and of the Velvet Underground. Apparently "leaked" by John Cale from his private collection, with more to come they say, it contains a never before heard song and the first live outing of Sister Ray. Very tight, very aggresive, a must!

It's usually available on soulseek. It's just a long winding intro to 'Sister Ray' though, this is the only recording of 'Sister Ray' with John Cale as far as I'm aware, so this is much better!
I've been playing this on and off for the last week, a fantastic find and excellent quality.

Ahem - John Cale is also present and correct on Sweet Sister Ray!
He left a few months later.

There is a story that Cale had THE only copy of a Velvets bootleg with Cale on it featuring Sister Ray and he lent it to Lou who when asked to return it claimed to have taped over it accidentally.
Probably from Cale's Welsh For Zen autobiography as he does like to bang on about how good Sister Ray live was.

There was a time when this discovery would have seemed like the biggest moment of my life. A brand new Velvets song, and a cool one at that!!!
I'm Not A Young Man Anymore should be released as a split single with I'm A 50 Year Old Man

As far as I can make out the lyrics to this & seven odd minute Velvets track are something like:-
Yeh......
I'm not a young man anymore
I've got five nickels in my pocket
though* I'll get me some more
*(It might be something other than though)
lyrical simplicity of the first order! :applaud:

If you listen close enough I think Lou sings "I've got a three foot rock hard-on, but I'm too busy to use it"
No, I don't mean it. But he should have sung that.

Nice one.
Might I also reommend the remastered mono version of their first album (deluxe release) - sounds much better than the remastered stereo mix.
