Favourite track please...

Yes, ddd is a great song, but so is Lay of the Land and that's the way I've voted. Also like Elves, though I know the riff is a rip-off. In fact, I like most of this album except Bug Day which bugs me (ha,ha) just a bit.

This is possibly my least-played Fall album ever. It SEEMS like a brilliant album when I look at the tracklist, but somehow, it fails to really engage... Problem could be that it's a fairly good LP which was released in between 2 really great ones.

2 x 4 appeals to my more violent side.... plus i hum it when doing DIY.....

My least-played album is Middle Class Revolt. But coming close are CC, Shiftwork and Levitate. Oh, and Northern Attitude.

Generalist, I notice violence crops up a lot in your posts...

Yes, we all love you very much! I especially love you because you were nice about my cat pics, which merely irritated everyone else.

Wearing a plastic wig probably doesn't help your overall peace of mind...

Very hard to choose between DDD and Slang King, but went for the latter, one of the most magical moments on any Fall album.

My least-played Fall album is Kurious, Oranj.

I liked the cat pics too — so much I even did my own shabby imitation!

So can we see your shabby imitation cat pics or are they only for personal use?

It's here. I did change a little bit of the album cover text. It's probably funnier if you know both the album and Big Wag (all songs can be Big Wag songs with a few lyric changes — probably true for any cat, but I've created lots of BW paraphernalia over the years).

Yours was actually quite disturbingly convincing.

Craigness.

This is definitely my least played Fall album. Might be a bit too polished or somehting but the tracks just do not seem to hold my attention.....

Weird. Diff'rent strokes, I guess.

Wonderful and Frightening is not only one of my top 3 Fall albums, it's gotta be in my top 10 fave albums of all time!

Martin - June 9, 2004 02:11 PM (GMT)
Yes, it's an album I love, too. I think the songs are marvellous. Meant to be poppier than others, maybe is.

Stephen - June 9, 2004 02:13 PM (GMT)
Maybe it's the mix I don't like.
Glad that Craig and Steve each get a song though...

heavilycoveredinslime - June 12, 2004 11:46 PM (GMT)
As someone who knows many/most of the mid-period Fall LPs through getting the CD reissues, it's quite disheartening to keep coming to these polls, thinking 'Ahh! No Bulbs. ' or whatever and then having to stop and think.

Original of this album - bit duff really. With singles and b-sides? Ooo, fantastic stuff, one of the best. Odd that.
DDD it is then.

gorillabat - June 13, 2004 05:44 AM (GMT)
Yes, it's odd. This is indeed one of their more polished efforts (albeit with some strange off-centeredness beneath the surface) and I tend to prefer more atonal / angular / dissonant / experimental...what have you...and much of the music I adore is glaringly lo-fi, or no-fi.

But these songs are all so damn catchy. Too, I first heard the album all blottered out doing my frying psychic routine, so whenever I revisit it I suppose I may be hearing it somewhat with acid ears.

At the time PBL came out I just thought cool! another chick in the band! Not necessarily my "favorite" era, but I do like the Brix stuff.

And, while I find I just cannot choose a single favorite track, I do most wholeheartedly rise to the defense of "Bug Day." Brilliant.

From NME 29/6/85:-

"For 'Wonderful And Frightening' half the material was really honed from playing it live and the other half was made up on the spot. Good balance. My head's like a big filing cabinet.

"For 'Slang King' I tried to get Karl to play drums like The Moments, d'you remember their records? And I had this organ tune and this ongoing fable about this historical character. Worked dead well, didn't it?"

squarehead - June 18, 2004 02:44 PM (GMT)
on my shortlist for Craig's finest moments

In Stephen Song the lyrics state:

“It was a thing with a head like a spud ball”

then, a bit later,

“It is headless”.

Does 'it' have a head or not?

Slang King!

3 little girls with only 50 pence
Had to take, had to put
The Curly Wurly back...

By the way, DDD is probably my least favorite Fall song. Can't stand listening to it.

It bores me rigid too... can't understand why it's so popular, like the dire Bill... oh well, each to his/her own :)

Lay / Copped / Elves / Craigness - some all-time faves :)

Yes.

I'd have thought that was obvious from the lyrics.
