Q. What is the next number in this sequence...and why?
...and what might precede the '1' in the same sequence?
1, 4, 7, 10, ?
idonotknowyournamr - November 10, 2007 11:31 AM (GMT)
Could be 13, 1+3 =4; 4+3=7;7+3 =10
-2...Too easy I suspect.

Is this music-related in some way?
Otherwise I may find myself barking in the wrong orchard.
bradx - November 10, 2007 12:08 PM (GMT)
...I should've said - its not music related, no :)

Gauge wire values?

It's probably the last four books he's read. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and Enid Blyton's Secret Seven On The Trail are easy enough, but I'm damned if I can think what 4 and 10 might be.

Four Just Men by Edgar Wallace and Ten Little Niggaz by Eazy-E (as told to Agatha Christie). Obvious, really.

pipe diameters,??
0·8 and 12,
bradx - November 10, 2007 01:25 PM (GMT)
Its not wire gauges, pipe diameters ...or the last 4 books I read...no...(although I do have an Edgar Wallace on the go...'The Crimson Circle')
ok...this number sequence originated in America...although its now more common elsewhere/
It is based on a type of ignorance...or, more kindly, a human foible.

Ok - my quiz is very hard. The question occurred to me when I was leaving for work the other morning. I live in a block of flats.

The answer is 14. There is no 13th floor in many blocks of flats, for superstitious reasons. Therefore, reading downwards from the top, the list of floors would go: 1, 4, 7, 10, 14.
And 1 would be preceded by G.

There is no 4th floor in many Chinese blocks of flats.
Similar reasons, 4 can sound the same as "death" or "die" I think.
idonotknowyournamr - November 12, 2007 05:11 PM (GMT)
Bollocks! ...the answear is 1, with 1 preceded by 10.
