Really?! Ha ha. Let me rephrase the question then:

Which Frank Zappa song rhymes "freezing" with "wheezing"?

Oh, and having Googled to check, I think I knew #5, although endorsements of that kind from Uncle Joe were somewhat similar to Pele travelling the world every four years and telling the press of whatever country he's in that they're his tip to win the World Cup. :D

Ding! Correct. Goddammit.

9. In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins

(Wasn't The Flowers of Romance's drum sound influenced by Peter Gabriel's third album?)

duckpin236 - November 2, 2007 01:30 PM (GMT)
#5 - I'm going to guess The Pogues

Gene Vincents Amphetamine Breath - November 2, 2007 01:35 PM (GMT)

Ding! Correct. The engineer in common was Nick Launay.

I don't know about any possible similarities with Peter Gabriel - what a revolting thought.

Afraid not.

duckpin236 - November 2, 2007 01:46 PM (GMT)
Thank you for being polite....My guess was based on the late Mr Strummer's ability to say nice things when he wanted something in return...and he was desperate to front the Pogues after Shane was booted/left....nice quiz: #5 was the only one I had a shot at....

You're welcome - and as per AHS's earlier comment, it's certainly the kind of thing you can imagine him saying on a different day...

I bet "Travels In Nihilon" from XTC's Black Sea was a big influence on PiL around that time.

5. If it's not the Pistols then maybe The Slits?

snoweyuk - November 2, 2007 07:21 PM (GMT)
Is 5 The Stooges?

Or The Clash?

duckpin236 - November 2, 2007 07:25 PM (GMT)
It would help to know where Joe was and to whom he was talking....as noted, he now & then gives evidence of being the offspring of a diplomat...
Shakin' Stevens: Yeah he's lame but I sure liked his version of Marie Marie.

#5 - I am going to say the Kinks because even though they weren't a punk band, in the early days they sure were a band of punks.[except for Pete Q]

At least tell us if you can, which country was Mr Strummer in when he gave out with his bit of wisdom.

duckpin236 - November 2, 2007 07:27 PM (GMT)
...or the MC5 - yeah that's who it was, the MC5 - great quiz I am looking forward to #10....

Cappuccino and a slice of quiche - November 2, 2007 07:36 PM (GMT)

All guesses for #5 are wrong so far!

The band are English, the interview was conducted (well published, anyway) in the States.

They're not the most obvious band you'd describe as punk - but then again, why the hell not.

He was a rather more credible figure in 77 - even John Lydon counted himself a fan (!)

Gene Vincents Amphetamine Breath - November 2, 2007 07:38 PM (GMT)
5 The Wurzels

duckpin236 - November 2, 2007 07:38 PM (GMT)

not Souixsie by any chance?
