The title of this poll says it all.
I haven't heard all of these records, but the albums I know are all highly recommendable. About half a year ago I finally got Robert Wyatt's incomparable Rock Bottom (I wonder what took me so long.). No doubt that this is the one for me.

The Trojan UK Hits box for me, I've been playing this a lot lately.

Me too. I have to skip Judge Dread though, the daft arse.

I don't know them all. But do not hesitate to vote for Dub Housing, one of the most funny "dark" records, as a wise critic once said.

This fine list has just reminded me that I need to send an email to someone called Alistair Roberts.

Dub Housing. Getting back into this after nearly 30 years. Incredibly dynamic sound - on my vinyl copy anyway/ Lovely stuff

The Wyatt lp is a masterpiece. Really timeless. I remember buying my copy on vinyl for £1 from a 2nd hand shop that had a 'damaged' section. Any record with even a minute mark on it would be £1. I got amazing stuff there. Needless to say my copy of Rock Bottom plays perfectly - over 30 years later.

bach, but bright pheobus is a favourite as well.

I really recommend the Alasdair Roberts, but only if you've a strong stomach for folk. What he does on this album is create a fine set of original songs that sound like traditional folk, archaic language and all, but deal with modern subjects. "Let me lie and bleed a while" is intensely moving, and "Firewater" is a wonderful drinking song. It's all fantastic, actually. His best yet. It's on emusic by the way.

Can never decide between Modern Dance and Dub Housing. When I listen to Modern Dance I always find it incredibly fresh and exciting. And then I listen to Dub Housing and find it...incredibly fresh and exciting. :D

Just having a look at this again (since it was raised in the Bagrec poll). I never replied, but if I had, I wouldn't have said the Steven Isserlis recording, because it wasn't out then. It is now, and I recommend it thoroughly.

Can't get a cigarette paper between Rock Bottom, Stormcock and Another Green World, so abstainance here.
snarfyguy - April 14, 2008 10:38 PM (GMT)
I consider Rock Bottom the greatest album of all time.

Went for Roy Harper but that is a very good list. I don't know a few on there but all the ones I do know (7) could have been the first pick.

Rock Bottom.
And the Ideal Copy is not Wire's best.
I like 'Ahead' though.
