Yes I think it might be prudent to attach a spoiler warning to this thread.

Cleanville Tziabatz - June 21, 2007 12:01 PM (GMT)
I don't think any of what I said can be considered spoliers, so no warning necessary.

I have never watched the Sopranos...and I haven't seen the Clinton thing so don't mind me, just passing thru...

The Spranos ended they only way it could. It just would've been too hollywood if all the loose-ends were tied-up at the end. By leaving it open, the writers are allowing the viewer to decide. Maybe Tony was shot, maybe he wasnt - art reflecting life there. The series' basic theme of family man versus gangster man was never going to come down on one side or the other - it wasnt about Tony's reformation, more about the struggle between these two sides within him. And just like real life, it is ongoing. The family man wins sometimes, the gangster at other times - but its a continuous process and for it to have ended with Tony's death would have meant the gangster had lost - making it like every other mafia story in hollywood.

So my hat is off to the producers, I thought in the final series they really picked up their game. :applaud:

Well there's your spoiler

The ending had probably the most impact for me of anything I've seen in tv drama. Admittedly this had a lot to do with the anticipation involved and bidding farewell to some of the most deeply explored characters in film or tv.

This is my favourite comment on the final scene backlash  - spoiler alert

finally saw this on E4 last night. I've been avoiding spoilers all this time.
Perfect ending, I thought.

I watched it 2 nights ago and was instantly aggrieved and disappointed at the ending, but after 20 seconds or so, I too thought "perfect"!

I have been thinking about this all evening, such is the power of Chase (not Fallchase!).

I think he's correct, it makes sense to me.

SPOILER ALERT

I thought he was shot as he opened the door of the restaurant...there's that strange shot of Tony looking at himself seated...and those last few minutes are a dying vision a la Mulholland Drive (David Chase is a big Lynch fan...)
