Title: Complete Peel Sessions 1978–2004 • Discs 5 & 6
Description: Favourite track?

snoweyuk - May 14, 2007 10:52 AM (GMT)
Only on one leg for me

Kapitδn - May 14, 2007 11:49 AM (GMT)
Boring I know, but had to be Blindness.

Honourable mention to "Service", "M5" and "Reconing" though...

Spazzy Bystander - May 14, 2007 12:48 PM (GMT)
It really does have to be Blindness - this version is my favourite track off any Fall record.

Mere Pseud. - May 14, 2007 12:50 PM (GMT)
Blindness would have been my obvious choice as well.

However I decided to support Calendar because it's the biggest improvement compared to the original IMHO. Besides that the song deserves more attention than it gets on the Masquerade EP.

Hender - May 14, 2007 01:32 PM (GMT)
Masquerade, a hugely underrated song

This Box is too good to be true, one highlight after another. There is no such thing as a definitive favourite. As aforementioned, the obvious highlight on these discs would be "Blindness", another one is "Shake off", but my first favourite was "Contraflow". I don't know how many times I listened to this song on repeat mode. Therefore and because I had to vote against it at the Fall Cup, it gets my vote.

Dice Man - May 14, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
Strychnine, Beatle Bones, Oleano, Calendar, Bound Soul One and Blindness were in heavy contest. Blindness won.

bert zuttbap - May 14, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
I go jobsearch as i'm still wrestling with the bassline/melody axis, safe in the knowledge that it will suddenly "click in" and become indispensable, in the manner of much great fall, initially oblique.

Mr_Pharmacist - May 15, 2007 04:31 PM (GMT)
Disc 6 is my favourite Peel Session disc, Blindness is probably my top Fall track of all time. A clear winner.

Dusty - May 15, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
Groovin'/Green eyed Loco'. :) I love the kinda cute way Elena miss-pronounces Chewbacca.

The Man Whose Bed Diminished - May 16, 2007 01:33 PM (GMT)
The same one as virtually everyone else for me.

Even now, when listening to it, it demands frequent looks in the direction of the stereo coupled with a look of incredulity at what he is singing, and at the wonder of what is being played. The ". . . Jane Seymour/the neck is slightly dislocated" couplet being one of the most satisfyingly weird lines from it, which was tragically omitted from the FHR versions.

An honourable mention for Paranoia Man, but it is just a bit too similar to the Infotainment Scan version.

petehine - May 16, 2007 09:01 PM (GMT)
Blindness. Because it's really good.

Bernard_Albrecht - May 24, 2007 09:20 AM (GMT)
Oddly enough, D.I.Y. Meat really works for me on the Peel session but not on the LUS album. That's what I like about the Peel sessions - getting a new view on previously ignored tracks. Blindness is too obvious as it's a great track on FHR anyway.

In a similar vein I'm a fan of Glam Racket - Star, Mere Pseud Mag. Ed. and Groovin' With Mr. Bloe/ Green Eyed Loco Man on PS Discs 5&6.

Exopsychicton - May 25, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
A dead tie between Blindness and Spencer. Decided for charity.

Just listened to the Peel DIY last night and agree, though I do enjoy the LUS version. Ripping, bleeding guitar sound, very atypical of 'Fall sound'.

Hotel Amnesia - May 26, 2007 09:07 AM (GMT)
Paranoia Man is class and just beats Blindness for me

799thJim - June 13, 2007 06:30 PM (GMT)
Blindness, although was torn between that, Masquerade, and Bloe/Loco Man

Smudger - June 17, 2007 06:26 PM (GMT)
Disc 6 , I wouldn't vote against any of it.
Best Fall ever ever.

Johnboynotwaltons - June 17, 2007 11:25 PM (GMT)
"Shake off" and "Blindness" (so laid back they fell over themselves)

imaglasgowmanmyself - June 18, 2007 07:01 PM (GMT)

and ladybird

brilliant version of a brilliant song

Exopsychicton - September 24, 2007 08:06 AM (GMT)
Does anyone else, besides the two obvious jokers who voted for it, like Job Search? I am quite fond of it actually. It raises the decade for me. On a good stereo with the lights off and years of familiarity in the bank, it is a blanked sort of perfection, a thing unto itself you don't try to meet half way. The soundtrack to the quiet drink in your hand. Wonderful.

Rigsby - February 13, 2010 02:03 PM (GMT)
Had a successful conversion of non Fall type yesterday evening. The Hey! Student/Glam Racket - Star combo finished him off. Voted for HS myself.

Job Search is wonderful and a beautiful and quite fitting end to the Peel sessions box, I think.

Can't believe I hadn't voted here.

Predictably, 'Blindness'. :applaud:

Mark E Smith Made Me Cry - February 14, 2010 01:29 PM (GMT)
Job Search, because when I first heard it, Mark E Smith made me cry.

Blindness a close second..

Calendar for me too :girly:

Sven Hassel Schmuck - June 12, 2010 10:52 AM (GMT)
Voted for Contraflow. Just ahead of Ladybird and Blindness.

WetWetWet - June 12, 2010 11:40 AM (GMT)
Grooving With Mr Bloe - Green-Eyed Loco Man, it is.

A fantastic song is presented even better. Magic :applaud:

James M - June 12, 2010 07:53 PM (GMT)
Another for Job Search, one of the most evocative Fall tracks. I can't quite place the emotional tone, but it's uncanny. Strangely enough, the last few moments of "Pinball Machine" (Seminal Live) have a similar effect on me, and "Weather Report 2."

Yes.

So much better than the LP mix which is awash with too much swirly electronics, rendering the guitars almost inaudible.

MOD-MOCK-GOTH - June 14, 2010 04:56 AM (GMT)
Hark The Herald Angels Sing (session 18)

IAMTHEPUCK - June 14, 2010 09:42 PM (GMT)
SPENCER.

Been digging this and Girl in Shop lately for that blurted vocal style.

requiredfield - June 18, 2010 12:20 AM (GMT)
The shittier end of the Peel box. There are some gems sprinkled throughout but many skippables. Another vote for Blindness. It really does stand out. By fuck I hate the xmas songs on here.
