New Puritan, no contest for me.

One of the most unique recordings I've ever heard, Fall or otherwise. I like the Totale's Turns version a lot as well, though.

Kapitδn - May 14, 2007 11:55 AM (GMT)
New Puritan for me as well. Think it'll go very far in the cup this year - even tipped it as the winner :)

Garden and Hip Priest versions are also exceptional - lots of goodies on these discs...

snoweyuk - May 14, 2007 01:23 PM (GMT)
Hipster for me.

Hender - May 14, 2007 01:30 PM (GMT)
Spoilt for choice, mmm, Garden

psychocandy - May 14, 2007 01:33 PM (GMT)
new puritan, definitely.

Aubrey The Cat - May 14, 2007 03:08 PM (GMT)
New Puritan. Only found here, really (I think), and magnificant.

Aubrey The Cat - May 14, 2007 03:10 PM (GMT)
Damn. And Words of expectation - I thought that came later. One of their best ever songs, ever.

foe - May 14, 2007 03:12 PM (GMT)
I really don't know what to choose here, too many favourites. Maybe one of these:

New Face In Hell / Look, Know / Smile / Hexen Definitive - Strife Knot

I have to come back later.

Dice Man - May 14, 2007 05:33 PM (GMT)
I hate myself for not voting for Words Of Expectation the second time in 14 days, and session 6 is probably my fave of the mighty set, but go for New Puritan as well. It's without comparison (and I like the Totale's Turns version too).

These are the words of success-expectation.

Gene Vincents Amphetamine Breath - May 14, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
Winter, best version of best Fall song, but it was a wrench not to vote for New Puritan.

Bernard_Albrecht - May 23, 2007 03:15 PM (GMT)
Hexen Definitive - Strife Knot. The reason being that I just happen to be listening to it right now, and I'm too lazy to flick through the tracks. Vast majority, from memory, are brilliant though and seem to get better with each listen, finding new layers, blah blah blah...

Bernard_Albrecht - May 23, 2007 03:20 PM (GMT)
I want to change my mind! The next track has just come on. 'Eat Y'self Fitter' with two drum kits. Marvellous banging noises.

Exopsychicton - May 25, 2007 09:43 PM (GMT)
After much waffling consideration, Chose Jawbone. 'Perfect' production for the song as it relates to the lyrics blending with the music. And as for the lyrics, they are hard to top aren't they? Words and Puritan were up there, as was New Face In Hell, which may have gotten the vote yesterday and tomorrow.

799thJim - June 13, 2007 06:32 PM (GMT)
Smile, prefer this version to the album version too

Frederick II - June 17, 2007 04:43 AM (GMT)
voted Hexen definitive. dont really know why. I have just bought this recently. I have not listened to any pre-1985 Fall for over 15 years and it still sounds fantastic after all this time. There is nothing else like it out there.

imaglasgowmanmyself - August 23, 2007 04:25 PM (GMT)
winter

need to give new puritan another listen mind

twinz2z - August 24, 2007 03:06 PM (GMT)
I could have voted for winter, eat yourself fitter or middlemass, but
Rebellious Jukebox has the Fall first sound still sounding fresh.Dont know why but I always regard this as the Fall,s "first track"with the guitarist searching for and finding a sinewavy on and on note.Pure magic.

rainmaster - February 13, 2010 02:25 PM (GMT)

MOD-MOCK-GOTH - June 14, 2010 05:01 AM (GMT)

Hotel Amnesia - June 14, 2010 09:17 AM (GMT)
Could have voted New Puritan but it is steaming ahead so will give my vote to "Put Away." Everything a Peel version should be.

Hexen hour - June 16, 2010 08:17 PM (GMT)
God this was tough, voted Hexen-Strife Knot.......and its a Hexen Hour

requiredfield - June 18, 2010 12:02 AM (GMT)
Smile. New Puritan close second.

chandrasonic - April 14, 2011 07:57 PM (GMT)
RIGHTEOUS MAELSTROM!"New Puritan" from the Peel session and "Totally Wired": my introduction to the mighty Fall back in 1980,never looked back...

delmore - April 14, 2011 08:07 PM (GMT)
Let it be recorded that...

Peter Cook's Jokes - April 15, 2011 01:04 PM (GMT)
Winter. I can remember like a lovesick teenager (which I was) the expectation of a new Peel session. Not wishing to be mawkish but I do miss the old bugger terribly.

Rowche Rumblers - April 30, 2011 12:53 AM (GMT)
I hate these kind of polls, no matter what you choose you're both wrong and right  ...Put Away (session 2), no real reason except that was the first Peel session song I heard from them, plus I like it.

Littlegrafter - May 11, 2011 05:54 PM (GMT)
Hexen for Ladies and Gentlemen....The Fall

MSG - May 15, 2011 03:17 PM (GMT)
impossible decision.
I love the almost accidental way that Put Away comes together, the noise of container drivers, the dirge of Hexen/Strife knot. But my vote has to go to New Puritan, it just blew me away when i bought the boxset.

I'm A Mummy - June 16, 2011 04:28 PM (GMT)
Futures And Pasts.

Turns a good LATWT song into a face-scalding assault of spitting attitude. :P

gohoho90 - December 28, 2011 02:56 AM (GMT)
1. New Puritan (the all-time top Fall recording)
2. Winter (all-time top 5 Fall)
3. Eat Y'self Fitter (though PBL version is superior)
4. Words Of Expectation (all-time top 10 Fall)
5. Garden (all-time top 20 Fall)
6. Blindness (all-time top 20 Fall)
