You will need a paypal account.

If you contact the email address on the link, they will get back to you pretty fast telling where to send your money.

It costs about £11 + about £4 p&p if you live in the UK.

u r ying - May 4, 2004 10:10 PM (GMT)
......and it'll be posted as soon as they get your payment.

The Jeffery Lewis track, The story of the Fall was written for the recent London Fall shows.
It was illustrated with a fine comic book that he had also created for the show (he also makes comic books). The song was the high point of an excellent support slot and I will be buying the CDs on the back of it.
Apparently he had only seen the Fall once before but he still managed to capture the entire the MES experience with a genius like accuracy.

It's a very good little package & I'm sure if you email Marc he'll make sure you get sorted for a copy.

has anyone got the perverted by mark e tribute album yet? i've just ordered it from the record label using paypal. i was taken after this to a page which said that the record company was trying to set up paypal payments and hoped it'd be sorted out soon (may 9th?). i got an e mail off paypal though saying the transaction was complete (21 euros inc p&p). hopefully the cd will arrive during the week. is it any good?

Middle Class Rebel - May 9, 2004 08:23 PM (GMT)
Thats exaclty the same message I got etc. Hopefully it isnt a scam. If it is I can get quite nasty. Doesnt look like a scam tho coz i dont generally fall for them. It can take a couple of weeks to get stuff internationally, even if just over in Germany. Well I dont know where you are (the UK like me?) so Id be patient, particularly with a non-major non-professional mail order service which risks being overflooded by Fall fans.

essenceoftong - May 9, 2004 09:30 PM (GMT)
yes. uk like you (lancaster). i didn't realise that it was the 9th already though (how time flys) so maybe its all sorted now.

Finally heard The Container Drivers' track on John Peel's show - loved the little yelps after "Brix!" :P

Keg from the Container Drivers is hoping to bring a stack of the CDs back from the launch party in Germany for sale in the UK. Details to follow when he has the discs available.

just got mine today as well, pretty quick delivery time. i'm looking forward to listening to it later.

essenceoftong - May 12, 2004 04:43 PM (GMT)
it arrived today. i've listened to the first 9 tracks in the car, on first hearing there's some tracks that sound a bit naff but there's some enjoyable stuff too. i liked wings, paintwork was good (hey barbara, you're fu*%ing up the paintwork) but the container drivers track was worth the price of the cd on it's own. i had the car window wound down and this track was blasting out as i pulled up alongside a car full of teenagers at traffic lights, needless to say they looked bemused when they heard the music :D (and i agree the brixey yelps  are wonderful).
i'm looking forward to the rest of the cd.

Dave_K - May 13, 2004 10:17 AM (GMT)
I've just finished listening and I'm not disappointed. There's a few daft tracks I could do without like the cover of Bill is Dead, I'll probably end up burning a CD-R of my favourites after a few more listens. But it's definitely a cut above most tribute albums and there are enough gems to make it well worth getting.

Has anyone translated the non-english tracks yet? It'd be nice to know what on earth Ich habe geträumt, ich wäre Neckermann quälen mit Mark E. Smith is all about.

kiespijn - May 14, 2004 07:07 PM (GMT)
`
. . as well as Ich habe getraumt, ich ware Pizza essen mit Mark E. Smith :P
Got my copy through the letterbox today, though haven't yet devoted my undivided attention to it .. woke up with a marked appetite for Levitate . . and some things just take precedence
`
. . but have had time to notice that The Container Drivers's 'The Ex-Members Of The Fall Club' omits Dave  "The bald, car-coat wearing insurance salesman and rabid Tory whose one attempt at songwriting was entitled 'Landslide Victory' .. . will always hold the dubious honour of being the first of many members to be sacked from The Fall", says Simon Ford :applaud:

JonN - May 14, 2004 08:13 PM (GMT)
It also fails to mention Andy Hackett, who is credited on "Levitate", even though it includes Karen Leatham. Was Kenny Brady ever a proper member? I had the idea he was just a guest player, like Arthur Cadman (also not mentioned). And is Lucy Rimmer included? Can't remember.

I liked this, but I thought there was a tad too much "tribute" songs and it should have had more covers, from a wider range. There's nothing from after 1990 (when Life Just Bounces originally appeared). I would have liked to see someone tackling Free Range or a LUS or Unutterable track.

Keg - May 15, 2004 12:44 PM (GMT)
There's a few names missing, but I think we got all the "main" ones. I missed off Johnnie Brown, but if you listen carefully to the "chat" bit in the middle of the song, you'll hear his name said at the end (just before "Terrible"). I got a copy of Simon Ford's book at Christmas, which shook out a few more names. Eric McGann, for example. Blimey, the song would have been 30 minutes long if I'd been that exhaustive in my research! Maybe we should re-record it every year to keep it up to date. I'll have to add Steve Evets to the end. Any more?

Action Records are now selling the CD. Don't forget to ask for the Fall website discount when ordering - http://www.action-records.co.uk

The Bremen Nacht thread had me reaching for Live In Cambridge cd - I don't know how I ever missed the whippet at the end of 'Pay Your Rates' .. . sounds like Brix joining in, but I expect it's actually mark touching on Mickey Mouse-style delivery :P

Conway - May 17, 2004 10:26 PM (GMT)
Thanks to the efforts of the lads from The Container Drivers, a UK distribution deal has been finalised with Shellshock Distribution for the tribute album (which is very good - 2 CDs of Fall covers & songs about or inspired by the Fall). It should be out June 21 or 28 - still to be confirmed.

Action Records is selling import copies right now.

Message from Keg (from the Container Drivers):

We travelled to Darmstadt this week for the "Perverted by Mark E" launch party. We got back from Germany yesterday, shattered but still on a high from the trip. The "Perverted" launch party was great. The Woog Riots were tremendous, but Chris "Green on Red" Cacavas stole the show with a dazzling version of "Totally Wired". It's the song he does on the LP, but for this performance it was just him, an electric guitar and some pedals that allowed him to play and loop... it was stunning.

I'll write up a piece about the trip for the Container Drivers website (with pics), but the main news I have for you is that I've brought back a box of "Perverted" CDs for people in the UK who don't want to order it from Germany (maybe they don't have a Paypal account or don't want to pay the extra postage). I'll sell them for £10.50, which includes postage. I'll add details to the Containers site today, but for now, if people send me an email at containerdrivers@yahoo.co.uk I'll send them details. No Paypal yet, just cheques / cash. I can probably sort out USA people if they want to risk sending $, but if they email me I'll see what I can do.

As I mentioned previously, Derek Westerholm from the Creeping Nobodies has copies available in Toronto - may be easier for US buyers. Email me (Conway) for his details

Finally, we had such a great time with the Woogs that we're going to join them in Berlin on Wednesday 9th June for the first date of the CD mini-tour. It's 90% settled that I'll do the next two nights (Thu 10th Hamburg, Fri 11th Dortmund). My guitarist Glyn can only make it to the Berlin show, so I'll be backed by the Woog Riots for the next two nights. Should be fun!

That "Ex-members of the Fall Club" song is great. Nice use of kazoo as well. :D

Keg - May 25, 2004 11:17 AM (GMT)
It's reported elsewhere on the site, but I now have a limited supply of "Perverted" CDs for sale to people in the UK / USA. I can offer them to those in the UK for the bargain price £10.50, which includes postage. Please refer to the Container Drivers website for details.

mes and brix-captures the brix era quirky pop alright

paintwork-excellent so far with distorted fragile fem vocals-ahh i see, replicating the taped over tape effect...damm good 1 minute in......still good here's the riff-yep, its good-always wanted it to take off more in the first riff section like this, kinda held back

wings-fractured chords for the single note riffs-almost brix like vox from hotel bloedel-terriblebutinthiscasetolerable don't care to much for the delivery by the male vocalist..a bit too afftected

good crashing music, nice trrrrrrill by the male vox though at this point

the male vox is growing on me towards the end

the refrain at the end a small change etc etc makes the vox more bearable

female vox is good

pretty good this

good feedback or squawly guitar going there

chachacha - May 28, 2004 11:14 AM (GMT)
pervertis par mark e: french pop, nothing remarkable here to my ear

popps along

chachacha - May 28, 2004 11:18 AM (GMT)
circus dinky keyboard/electro beginning to oh! brother and mantains that tack
v electro with distorted telephone-voice vox

quite like it, but the vocal delivery, not sure,

nice swinging creaky gate type effect there

I like the road to the end-kinda threatens to builds into an electro mess like a collapsing fall tour/gig

chachacha - May 28, 2004 11:21 AM (GMT)
PSI mere pseud mag ed

great not as punchy with the orig riff more laid back but still strong beat lazy american vocal delivery like lou reed being laconic

chachacha - May 28, 2004 11:28 AM (GMT)
spectre vs hector-i drifted off there...ho hum

cannibal man is interesting-loops with industrial effects and dada lyrics and mesisms dadadadaa dadad da da dadaaa
