Title: Von Sudenfed – Tromatic Reflexxions
Description: Release news + queries [not reviews]
Itchload - January 17, 2007 03:15 PM (GMT)
Through the last few years and solid albums I've been sort of missing The Fall's weird electronic sensibility, so the idea of Von Sudenfeld is very exciting for me. Mouse on Mars are a perfect collaborator for MES...I just hope he puts as much effort into his vocals as they do to the music (Can't Get Enough was cool, but it could use a few more lyrics). Plus, the album's coming out only 2 months after Reformation! Back to two MES LPs in a year..quite exciting.
Exopsychicton - January 17, 2007 08:38 PM (GMT)
Quite enjoyed it. In a way it's more Fall than the Fall now. I will be getting it. They seem to get on well. How long will that last.....

I thought that was a nasal decongestant. BAH HA HA (stops suddenly when he sees people wearily kneading their brows).
Yeah, all sounds very good, but will Smith just do what he clearly did with Wipe that Sound and write the lyrics on the bus on the way to the studio, go blah blah blah when he gets there, collect his fee and wander off to the nearest Bierstube?
Still sounds better than anything else of course, but its not compelling perzackly.

I remember quite liking the lyrics. Something about a roundabout and bumping into a guy on a mountain bike with a bright yellow helmet going : "You don't look like no fucking singer/songwriter to me!"
I'm just having a listen to it now. I suppose it doesn't really go anywhere fast after that promising opening. The original version (without MES) on Radical Connector starts with "Kick the can!". A friendly nod.
grgs - January 18, 2007 07:44 PM (GMT)
"Can't Get Enough" is lyrically repetitive even by MES standards. If I had been given these tracks and told "These are from the new Fall album" I wouldn't have been surprised at all.

Disagrees with own previous statement. New insights abolish.
Exopsychicton - January 21, 2007 11:00 AM (GMT)
I am quite looking forward to a recording, and am surprised that it is not gathering more curiosity. Oh yeah, a Fall record is about to come out....
Two months from now the clamours will be here.
Itchload - February 28, 2007 03:28 AM (GMT)
according to Pitchfork, here's the new tracklist...it's as good as all those faux Fall tracklists everyone makes when rumors of a new album start up.
01 Fledermaus Can't Get Enough
02 The Rhinohead
03 Family Feud
04 Flooded
05 Duckrog
06 The Young the Faceless and the Codes
07 Speech Contamination/German Fear of Osterreich
08 Serious Brainskin
09 Chicken Yiamas
10 That Sound Wiped
11 Jbak Lois Lane
12 Dearest Friends
Already plans to make a second album and a US tour! Hope it's good...
Petula Macabre - February 28, 2007 08:33 AM (GMT)
heard a couple of songs on their (obligatory) myspace. sounds promising, although i hope those germans go a bit crazier with their vocal cut-ups etc. any definite release date yet?

Impossible. The whole thing is a ruse perpetrated by JonN. Only he could have invented those titles.
Fear of Osterreich? :D ^_^ :finger: My excitement actually exceeds Post TLC.
Exopsychicton - February 28, 2007 07:02 PM (GMT)
Thing is, this is great stuff. But weren't the Fall going to tour this summer? I can't imagine Smith doing a double bill. It must be separate. The plot thickens. A ruse perhaps afoot.
If you haven't heard the songs on myspace, do it.

The two I've heard. He is listed as a member of the 'band', along with the other two. The song titles lead me to believe that he is ubiquitous.

Thanks for the response.
Back in January you had expressed surprise at the relative lack of curiosity that this project was generating, but I know I wasn't overly curious until earlier today when I realized that MES was likely on the whole album. I thought this was just going to be a one or two song thing, which I still would have bought, of course, but I wasn't breaking my neck to find out much more about it, but now that it looks like he is probably on the whole album I am excited and very curious.

I just listened to the songs on myspace. I'm def looking forward to this release. I liked Can't Get Enough better than Sound Wiped (which seemed to drag on a little too long), but both had their merits.

It is very, very interesting material. Quite fond of the lyrics, which seem inspred. The 'Get out of my head' bit made spit my tea the first time I heard it. I find myself listening to it as I troll about various intelligence services looking for new info on the Litvinenko case, and reading about Belarus student oppression and various spy scandals in Czech. is a very 'Fallesque' experience.
Mr Sheps - March 2, 2007 07:36 PM (GMT)
Have to say this sounds great (based on the 2 myspace tracks). Really looking forward to this..sounds heaps better than RPTLC.
JokerHystericalFace - March 3, 2007 01:31 AM (GMT)
I am so much more excited about this than that last "thing" The Fall released.
Reformation Post: Total Lyrical Crap
Will be getting Von Sudenfed the minute it comes out.
Will be avoiding Narnack Domestsic release & New Single like the plague.
Long live lyric writing and working with musicians who are creative & innovative, rather than pointless, uninspired words set to music by badgered/cowtowed hired help told to jam on the same riff for 8mins.
I'm hoping Von Sudenfed carries on the torch of intelligent music & words while the "real" Fall stumble around like some half-improvised jam band with a leader who only wants to write lyrics about his own band endlessly.

Although I do like RPTLC, your complaints are not without merit, as neither of the last two Fall records hold a candle lyrically to COTC or Unutterable. But these do seem more focused, or at least thought out. This is not to say there are not good lyrics on RPTLC or FHR, but that they do not reverberate as profoundly as recent previous. Maybe the maestro has some rather dubious plans...
BikeBloke - March 4, 2007 02:47 AM (GMT)
Loving the new Von Sudenfed tracks! Nice remix of 'Wipe That Sound' but the other one.... FUCK YEAH!
Mere Pseud. - March 5, 2007 11:35 AM (GMT)
I'm especially curious about Speech Contamination/German Fear of Österreich. This title sounds like something akin to "English fear of Scotland resp. Wales".

Great post. Totally agree.
The lyrics on RPTLC are a fucking joke. And not a very funny one.
Bring on Von Sudenfed.

Sounds very nice - Mark sounds inspired.
Definitely buying this one.
stevoid - March 30, 2007 03:10 PM (GMT)
i just got this on promo for two quid. MES vocals on all tracks even acoustic guitar on a couple, the whole thing is wonderful unlike the last two Fall albums. Mark and the two mouse guys on the cover have very similar haircuts/haircolour, which made me smile.
Fall Sound - March 30, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
http://dominorecords.imeem.com/video/tRWpW...ant_get_enough/Music video. weird. But awesome.
Here's hoping this leaks before I go abroad in May so I can listen to it before buying it when I get back - because I'm certainly buying it. It sounds so much more vibrant than RPTLC, I guess because they're such solid producers.
stevoid - April 1, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
gorgeous video, what is it about MES that attracts transvestism? (sic)
i'm sure this album will get leaked soon
