Yet another re-done poll.
I hope nlgbbbblth will recreate his amazingly detailed poll of Will Oldham singles and EPs.

I see a darkness is one of the finest recordings ever made.
The others aint bad, but this one is... I have no words.

Had a bit of a Will Oldham session just now. Listened to I See A Darkness (and still don't think he's recorded a better album since), plus a couple of interesting tracks on other albums – a version of Puff The Magic Dragon on the compilation Songs For The Young At Heart and an excellent track called The Eagle And The Hawk from Take Me Home: A Tribute To John Denver.

viva last blues.

i also love hope and that four track ep with three photographs on it.

i fear that he has peaked, though. there has been nothing really sustained and worthwhile since ease down the road. too much fucking about with cover versions, reworkings and collaborations

sounds like someone else??

He has peaks & troughs, but even his poorer stuff is always worth your time.

Anyone heard the new album, Lie Down in the Light?

Craig - May 23, 2008 10:10 PM (GMT)
I've never got on with him tbh. I think the best album he's been (tangentially) involved with is Slint's 'Spiderland'.

Mind, the "Come In" single is achingly ace.

Heard it once so far. First impression: best since I See A Darkness.

Really good album.

I was getting a bit bored with him to be honest, but might give the new one a chance on the back of all the good reviews.

Voted "Ease Down the Road", by the way - a brilliant album.
