Title: What is your favorite song
Description: Right now, this second
Cleanville Tziabatz - January 18, 2007 03:12 PM (GMT)
When I was in high school I would keep track of my "favorite song" on a daily basis. Not all time favorite -- just the current favorite. "In A Big Country" by Big Country had the longest run, but there was so much gr8 stuf in 83-84. I wish I could find those old lists, I would post them.
Now that I am old, I don't usually have a current favorite song, but sometimes I do.
This thd is for people to say what their current favorite song is. Not all-time favorite, but right now favorite. the song doesn't have to be recent, or in the charts or anything, but you guys probly know what I am driving at for this thd. the song that would make you most please if it came up on the playlist.
I will start:
"Falling Leafs" Billy Talent (an unusual one for me to like)
small brown bottles - January 18, 2007 03:13 PM (GMT)
The Worlds Strongest Man - Scott Walker
Three legged black grey hog - January 18, 2007 03:14 PM (GMT)
Tam Lin - Fairport Convention
(not Coldplay's Computer Love rip abortion that is currently on the radio at work)

At the minute, it's Lucinda Williams - Blue

PJ Harvey - "big exit" live at the electric picnic festival in Ireland 2006
The Twilight Singers feat. Mark Lanegan - live with me
:)
Brickah Chipah - January 18, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
My favorite song the last few days is Sam Cooke, "A Change Is Gonna Come." So beautiful I've even been enjoying the covers by Prince Buster and Billy Bragg, for variety.

Their version of 'Black is the colour of my true love's hair.'

The Sailor's Hornpipe
Some kind of sea shanty that often gets in mixed with the old Popeye cartoon theme. Would sound spiffing in a bluegrass arrangement. Bet it's a real finger-twister to play.

Whilst I get what CT means when he says 'right now favourite', I have the problem that whenever the phrase favourite song is said to me, my brain immediately reacts with 'Visions of Johanna'.
If I can get past that, then it could possibly be Monkey and Bear by Joanna Newsom.
Also, being a world class pedant, I feel obliged to point out that a hornpipe isn't a shanty.

I know; I was talking about the song itself, not the title.

Backdrop. I had Fall gigs on random play this morning with a nice 11 1/2 minute version popping up. An all-time AND a right now fave!

Tough one. :o
Truly. As right now I am compiling tracks for a girl who goes to open mics to see if she wants to sing any with me. Not only are they songs I like a lot, but right now I am copying a selection from the disc I used for my radio show last year. Which was my favourite songs of all time sort of thing.
It has included Wedding Bell Blues by Laura Nyro, Got a Feelin' by Mamas and Papas. Come Go With Me by the Staples Singers, Blue Period by the Smithereens featuring Belinda Carlisle, Put a Little Love In Your Heart by Jackie De Shannon, The Puppy Song by Nilsson, Stupid Mouth Shut by Hem, and Different Drum by Linda Ronstadt.
Damn, decisions, decisions. :banghead:
OK right now it'll be the last one, Different Drum since Mike Nesmith wrote it and I'm in a Mike Nesmith 'phase' right now.

'Saran Wrap' by The Fugs. Likin the Fugs at the moment.
A Worried Man - January 18, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
This is a good idea.... so long as I don't start thinking too much about it, which would distort the results.
Right this moment, I don't have one.
Aubrey The Cat - January 18, 2007 07:36 PM (GMT)
John The Gun by Fairport Convention - because I played it today, on a Sandy Denny compilation - one of the few songs by her that doesn't seem to be about time passing or having passed: it's almost as if she knew.

I know picking your own band is probably the wankiest thing to do but I'd have to go for Black Country by The Nightingales. That said, I'm really taken with Tonight by Richard Hawley and have found Take Me Back 'Ome by Slade being played with increasing frequency. What a threesome!

so much wine, Handsome family
| QUOTE |
I had nothing to say on Christmas day when you threw all your clothes in the snow. When you burnt your hair, knocked over chairs, I just tried to stay out of your way. But when you fell asleep with blood on your teeth, I got in my car and drove away.
Listen to me, Butterfly, there's only so much wine you can drink in one life and it will never be enough to save you from the bottom of your glass.
Where the state highway starts I stopped my car. I got out and stared up at the stars. As meteors died and shot cross the sky, I thought about your sad, shining eyes. I came back for my clothes when the sun finally rose but you were still passed out on the floor. |

steveless - bored
three plus minutes of squealing feedback, casiotones and falling-down-the-stairs drumming over which a welsh genius declares that he is bored. he's spot on, too. i'm always bored.

"Don't Cry No Tears" by Neil Young and the Crazy Horse
oh glorious slack in the percussion! . . . thinking of the "musical msg" thread, the guitar tones in this song are my musical msg.

Quality song from a quality album. Heard the Wedding Present version? A must.

Thanks for the tip and the kind words on the other thd.
Last month I found Zuma, Rust Never Sleeps and Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere used. I had not heard the vast majority of this material before (esp Zuma).
Between being In Toronto and Mod. S. and the UFF I couldn't seem to get away from"old Neil." If ya can't beat'em join'em, I always say.
In fact, I think I will leave work early so I can lissen to Zuma right now.
ON EDIT:
Not neccessarily a huge "Weddoes" fan. How did they manage to ruin Box Elder Mo f'rinstance? But "Pleasant Valley Sunday" kicks major a$$, so I will have to investigate further.

Yep Box Elder is a bit shit isn't it? Mystery.
I like WP myself, but find them occasionally patchy. Would have loved to have seen them live.

David Gedge still tours as TWP & they do alot of the older material live. Good night out.

I don't know about that. My band had the best song of all 2005. Then again I am not averse to the occasional wank. "Let's Think About Livin'" spent a week or 2 as my fave song last year.

Yeah i'd kind of forgotten about that. Not keen on the newest album though. It's really melodic. :o
Might see em when they come to Manchester next, if i manage to spot when they play. I'm still kicking myself for missing Joanna Newsom the other night.
