Description: ifso what ?
RedDanDoc - December 22, 2006 03:00 PM (GMT)
i like these as they are free
i download
George Galloway ...... i dont necessarily agree with everything that the man says but he is entertaining at times and he has some interesting topics being discussed.
The Adam & Joe show ....... Absolutely Hilarious and there is loads of em :) well worth reccomending !
Mark Kermodes weekly film reviews ....... Very good and suprisingly funny at times.
Ricky Gervaise Podfather .......... 3 of them are free and that Carl Pilkington fella makes me howl :D . Its ricky Gervaise and Stephen Merchant ganging up on Carl Pilkington in the studio a bit cruel but very funny !
Theyre all free :)
i think thats about it.
Do you subscribe to podcasts ? if you do which ones ?

Checked some of this out recently myself. Nice stuff, especially when it remains bassy and instrumental

I've just discovered the iTunes university. It has some good stuff. I'm currently listening to this about the American Civil War:

I work out to the BBC History magazine podcast. Would love to hear more things of this sort.
rightreverendcraig - May 17, 2011 07:29 PM (GMT)
I subscribe to the kick in the eye podcast, it comes out once a month, is free (although you can donate via Paypal - which I have) & provides between 2 & 2 1/2 hours of absolutely glorious music ranging from crazy heavy rock stuff to beautiful classical (The Fall feature quite heavily too).
Treat yourself & let me know what you think. I would however urge you to donate to the guys that put the podcast out if you genuinely like it.

You could try making history:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qxrc.
It seems normally to follow a similar format of a number of different subjects each week. Unfortunately the podcasts are only up for a week, but the programmes are archived for streaming for a bit longer.
I've not heard it myself much to be honest so I don't know if it is actually any good.
Divvey - May 18, 2011 10:47 AM (GMT)
This American Life (the bar has been set)
The Moth
Football weekly & football weekly exxxtraaaa
NPR all songs considered.
Hooray for NPR!!!!

I rarely laugh out loud at TV but The Ricky Gervais Show makes me howl with laughter at times.
Really must get my mitts on the podcasts that show is based on.

Thanks for this, I will check it out.
(Hmm... I could perhaps collect quite a few podcasts of this sort, and use them to fill the time on long flights)

Basically two blokes pick one album each that they like for the other to listen to, then they discuss the good or bad points of the album, the context of the recording etc it's very much for hardcore music lovers/snobs. They also have regular sections where say they might list their top 5 album covers or top 5 gigs. It's great and the two hosts are really likable and knowledgable.

complete guide to everything - very funny american podcast. that doesn't sell it well but to paint it more accurately it's an american pod that's massive in the uk and barely heard in america.
answer me this - similar vibe to adam and joe: high production standard, silly jingles and pleasant general tone. this one has people sending in questions to be talked about.
nardwuar the human serviette - overenthusiastic canadian interviews music people. the snoop dogg and john lydon ones are especially good.
jonny trunk's podcast - library music mostly. couldn't be listened to intently but a good one for drifting off to.
do or diy - revolutionary cut'n'paste radio show hosted by people like us.
the incendiary magazine shedcast - new music podcast. mostly skippable but essential listening for the weird diamonds that crop up (guy listing contents of lunchbox over happy hardcore beat).
radio free skaro - doctor who reviews. i only listen to this when there's been a new episode on. saves hours of forum scouring for general opinion.
big book of everything - basically bored nerds writing daft songs on different subjects. surprisingly effective gym listening.
had to give up on uhh yeah dude and collings and herrin, two great shows, due to sheer volume.
Aubrey The Cat - June 13, 2011 04:14 PM (GMT)
I would have subscribed to S Fry's, but you need itunes for that so I didn't do it.

I listen to this, whether or not there has been a new episode on. I find them engaging.
Also, the History of Rome (just ace) and Civil War Talk Radio (discussion of the American Civil War and budget cuts at East Carolina University.) Especially exciting exciting when the host hasn't much liked his guest's book and decides to politely skewer him about it.
Aubrey The Cat - June 14, 2011 09:19 AM (GMT)
Not subscribe, but every now and then, when I've been reminded by something like this thread, I go to the R3 site and down load a bunch of recent episodes of Building a Library, a programme which compares available versions of pieces of music. Only if I already like the music, though.
I used to listen to this when I worked on Saturdays, or - quite a long time ago - when it was repeated on Wednesday afternoons. There is something really reassuringly nurdy about someone discussing different versions of a piece of music for 40 minutes; I also like the fact that they assume quite a bit of knowledge in the listener; it never used to bother me when I didn't know what they meant; I just found out. I always liked the sound of the words, anyway: Rubato; Counterpoint; Portamento; Ritardando, etc

Yes, what is all that about? Frustratingly, I got to Collins' blog too late to read the post, but it was something he'd said to upset Herring, wasn't it?

If you google "never knowingly underwhelmed" it is the cached result.
Basically, you know they were filling in for Adam and Joe on 6 Music? Well, now A and J are on another indefinite hiatus, 6 Music have asked Andrew Collins to fill in for 5 weeks, but not with Richard Herring, with Josie Long. Richard Herring is pissed off with this as he thinks it shows a lack of loyalty to the double act which, he says, he has put a lot of time, effort and a certain amount of money into. Andrew Collin's position is that 6 Music is his main employer and he can't afford to turn work down. There is also an undercurrent that he is fed up of being the butt of Richard Herring's jokes.
Exciting stuff!
