Title: VINE: Captain Beefheart DVD
Description: When Big Chain Sets Up?

chrisgoodhead - January 19, 2007 03:12 PM (GMT)
Like musical chairs, when the server crashed I was left holding the Captain Beefheart DVD. Except instead of servers crashing I mean music stopping. And infact I also mean pass the parcel instead of musical chairs. That will teach me to attempt a metaphor.

Steven started a vine for this Captain Beefheart DVD. It's got loads of great Captain Beefheart stuff on. A documentary. Saturday Night Live. Some hideous rubbish by the tragic band. The Lo Yo Yo stuff film by David Lynch. Basically it is about 95% pure and good. Anyway. Since the vine has been lost. Perhaps a new one should start.

Here.

Chris Goodhead out.........

Aramchek - January 20, 2007 04:24 AM (GMT)
I would be very interested in this. However as I live in Australia which has a 5 - 10 day post time delay for things to get from the northern hemisphere I am happy to wait a few days to see what interest there is from others.

Quincy - January 20, 2007 10:18 PM (GMT)
Yep, I was signed up for this DVD. And then the crash.

I'm in Canada. But the postal service is quicker than everyone thinks. The Gang of Four DVD thread worked with someone sending the thing to me from Germany and then me to Ireland, and it all went very quickly.

youdancer - January 21, 2007 05:23 AM (GMT)
I too was on this and would love to be again

Living in US

Baz - January 22, 2007 12:27 PM (GMT)
Yup, I was in before the bounce and would love to be back in again.

Let her roll!

markw - January 22, 2007 07:25 PM (GMT)
I was down for this too

Actually - I remember that you were next. You PMed me your address but that got lost with the server crash. So PM me it again and I'll send it on straight away.

Cheers. :)

Hi Chrisgoodhead,

I just Pmed you, but I'm not sure it worked. Did it work?

JumperClown - January 23, 2007 03:04 PM (GMT)
Yes please - I'd like to get involved!

Yes it did. I will send it straight away. Tomorrow. Or the day after. :D

So, just to reestablish this vine thing, shall we go in order from the top?

The package is currently on its way from chrisgoodhead to me.

After that it looks like:

Aramcheck (in Australia)
youdancer (in US of A)
Baz
markw
JumperClown

Aramcheck, I'm in Quebec, so would you mind greatly if I switch you and youdancer in order to keep it on the continent before it goes down under?

squidxyz - January 25, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
Count me in, please. Another Canuck here, but you can add me to the end of the list.

Spartan HB - January 26, 2007 11:28 PM (GMT)
Please count me in (still in England).
thanks

clasper - February 12, 2007 12:23 PM (GMT)
Is this still alive? If so,count me in (I'm in the UK).

dearie me I was not paying attention to this & by chance noticed this note. Note sure where things are at but a I suspect I am the only one from the land downunder I am happy to wait until it has done the rounds up there.

Quincy - February 15, 2007 08:56 PM (GMT)
P.S. The DVD finally arrived today. I'll make a copy in the next day or so and then fire it back onto the road. Aramchek, it seems unfair to punish you for living in Australia, so I'll PM you after I'm done. I don't think it'll make the wait any longer than it's already been.

Quincy - February 20, 2007 04:34 PM (GMT)
Well, there's good news and bad.

First, the DVD is pretty great. It plays in my DVD player and the quality of the material is excellent.

Bad news is that the back of it is pretty seriously scratched and I can't seem to make a copy of it. I used Nero and then tried DVD Shrink, and both had errors and won't finish the copying process.

Anyone who had the DVD previously have the same trouble? Any advice? I'm going to keep trying, but it seems unlikely I'll be able to strike a copy. If I can't copy it today, I'll send it along to the next person and see if they fare better.

Quincy - February 23, 2007 01:22 AM (GMT)
So, it works out that I can't really copy this DVD. It's too damaged. I just heard from chrisgoodhead, and he said he didn't make a copy either.

So, I'll send it along to the next in line, but just so you folks know, you're essentially just watching it. If anyone's some kind of expert on copying difficult media (I don't mean "difficult" as in "avant-garde"), please raise your hand and you jump to the front of the queue.

What a drag!

Quincy - February 24, 2007 04:33 PM (GMT)
When last we left our Beefheart saga:

So I downloaded a bit of software called CD/DVD Data Recovery and set it to work on the Beefheart DVD. It took 30 hours to do what it needed to do, but in the end it worked a treat. I am now going to send along the original Beefheart DVD and its replica, which has no crazy flaws or skips or weirdness on it (unlike the abortive copies I had tried to make from the original using just regular software).

The only thing that's bugging me that I might do something about is the DVD's layout, etc. This may just be me being overly picky, but there's no menu, no proper chapter stops, etc. What would Martha Stewart do?

Anyway, the big nota bene is: Copy the copy! Not the original! The original is too damaged. It's just there for show.

markw - March 21, 2007 01:40 PM (GMT)
Has anybody got a copy of this that they want to trade (preferably in the uk). These vine things are a waste of time.

Baz - April 4, 2007 11:28 PM (GMT)
Hi. Does anyone know where we're up to with this? Or, if anyone reading this has a copy of the DVD from earlier up the vine, could you possibly bump-start this again?

Cheers ears! :D

It never reached me as Quincy said it would not play so no point sending it. I hope to see it one day however!

Craig - April 5, 2007 08:44 PM (GMT)
I can send you a copy Aramchek if you want to send it on to Baz. Would that work?

Quincy - April 6, 2007 12:24 AM (GMT)
Folks,

I'm sorry, but my computer died about six weeks ago and I am finally back online.

As things were left, I managed to make myself a copy of the DVD but then wasn't able to make a copy of the copy for myself before the computer troubles. The original was watchable but so seriously scratched that it couldn't be copied.

I'll now make a copy and send it out the original with its replica tomorrow to you, Aramchek. Sorry for the delay, but what with the vine being derailed by the board imploding, thereby destroying the thread, only to be further derailed by my computer failure, it feels like this DVD is destined to curse its viewers.

Aramchek - April 20, 2007 10:56 PM (GMT)
The original & copy disc arrived in last night's mail - lets see how I go with them.
pm sent to Baz.

youdancer - April 23, 2007 04:46 AM (GMT)
i'd still love to get my hands on this,
but after it does the rounds in the UK is fine

Shocking, I've only just gone back up through the posts & noticed you were ahead of Baz. Mucho apologies.
The parcel was posted today, Monday to Baz. I have sent him both the original disc & the original copy disc. Oddly I can't recall now which version my copy came from but started watching it tonight and everything seems fine.
For what it is worth the parcel should take between 5 & 10 working days to arrive in the UK. Apologies again. :(

no need for apologies David
this is after all the world's slowest moving vine :zzzz:

Baz - May 1, 2007 12:11 PM (GMT)
This arrived today, so many thanks indeed to David.

I see that Markw is after me in the list, but also that I 'gazumped' youdancer - sorry about that!

My first thing to do when I get home from work will be try and copy this...I'm mindful of the problems that Quincy had, but is seems that Aramcheck managed OK so we'll see how we go. Assuming that I can make copies I've no problems with sending a copy on to both markw AND youdancer and then we're up to speed again.

If I can't copy them for whatever reason then I can obviously only send one parcel (which consists of two discs), but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

.....Update to follow tonight....

Baz - May 3, 2007 07:32 AM (GMT)
Right...sorry about the delay. I've managed to copy the copy OK, so I am now sending PMs to markw & youdancer.

My plan is to send the original parcel on to markw and send one of the copies I've made to youdancer.

Howay!

Who's next? I guess I should check the list...

youdancer - May 14, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
Alright. Communicated with JumperClown and should be able to throw this in the mail in a couple days. Hopefully I don't get things mixed up and send it to my mum for her birthday and send JC a basket of bath salts...

youdancer - May 18, 2007 07:36 AM (GMT)
On its way to you JumperClown.

JumperClown - May 22, 2007 02:44 PM (GMT)
received - not tried to watch or copy yet - but will sort it out in the next few days

On the contrary, having just discovered them, I think they are a great idea, . I always worry that I don't have anything worthy of trading because I'm relatively new to the Fall and for that reason never really got started. I also like the sense of camaraderie in every one seeing that the next person gets it. I would like to add myself to the this Vine for a little Beefheart fun!

Spartan HB - June 3, 2007 05:09 PM (GMT)
Still waiting here, but... when I get it from Jumper Clown I'll post on to Clasper... (UK side of the vine)...
I'm sure its all worth the wait!

Spartan HB - August 14, 2007 10:20 AM (GMT)
Have received yesterday after some delay, and posted on to ACRMCR today.
Thank you!
