Title: YouTube.com footage of The Fall
Description: (merged)
EmCeeDeeJay - November 26, 2006 02:22 PM (GMT)
If you go over to youtube and type 'Fall' plus '11th August 2006' into their search engine you will find what looks like Norwegian TV/Cable footage of the Oyafestivalen appearance. Several songs are showcased and the quality is excellent.
Normally, I don't bother drawing people's attention to things like this, assuming that I am the last person to find out about what everyone already knows.
However, in this case it looks the clips are new and have hardly been viewed.
Enjoy.

It's with the new band, but no new material unfortunately. The old smilies are back so:

just spent half an hour or so watching this stuff again. quality is so good. suppose someone can put all this together to make a dvd. i love the shots of the crowd - so clean and orderly - like a sanitised Woodstock. would make a great live dvd.

I wouldn't say they were ropey, tighter than the FHR versions in my opinion.

Brilliant isn't it :D . Only found Mere Pseud Mag Ed on there yesterday - wonder if this is the same one as that on Live at the Hacienda which I have decided to buy myself for Xmas. On the same subject, other than HEH where else will I find a version of MPME?

While it's not obvious... you do download them when you watch them. Be sure to NOT close your browser after watching one then go START > FIND > Files/Folders and type in "video" (without the quotation marks). Doing that will find the file in your Temp folder.... called "get_video" or "get_video(1)" the number depicting the number of YouTube vids in the folder. Once you've found it/them you can right click and copy them to a folder of your choice.
They are FLV files and you can use google to search for an ever-growing number of FLV players. I use a free one called Riva. I don't know if that'll help towards getting them on your Ipod.... but you can certainly watch them without going to the site every time.
I'm pretty sure a recent thread about this was on this temporary board. Somebody in there mentioned a software that'll download them in a more traditional fashion.

I think I need a new sound card for my computer. Can't hear hardly anything even though I've just splashed out on some new speakers. Frustrating because the picture quality is really good.

I still haven't got round to checking this out yet, will do tomorrow when I'm more sober.
Aren't youtube still in crappy mono sound?
I think I remember reading they were thinking of upgrading the picture and sound but don't think that's kicked in yet...

Here is another way to do it:
1. Right click on the video link and choose "copy shortcut" (or similar), NOT "save target as...".
2. Go to
this site, paste the copied link, and press "get video".
3. Follow the instructions.
Afterwards, you can convert the flv file to another format, mpeg for example.

Tried a search on this subject, but haven't seen anyone posted it...
Found the whole
"The Wonderful and Frightening World of Mark E Smith" BBC 4 documentary on YouTube yesterday - divided into 9 parts with good quality:
All in this playlistGood chance to watch it for those who missed it on telly, or a nice rerun for those unable to tape it :)
PS: I remember reading about some "copyright issues" in the original thread about the documentary. I'm not well versed in the legal matters surrounding YouTube - but if this post in any way creates trouble for the person that put it up (someone on here probably  ) or this site, please remove this post.

Thanks a lot. I'd been wanting to see this. Much appreciated etc.
Exopsychicton - February 16, 2007 08:01 AM (GMT)
Found it about two weeks ago. Worth watching, though Smith comes off completely demented. Not that there is anything wrong with that....

Thanks for these, excellent stuff. They've improved upon Sparta FC too, always had a problem with that one.
And I'm chuffed you can actually save this stuff, I'm going to burn these to disc and listen at a decent volume.

Usually attend that festival, but couldn't this year. God knows when I get a chance to see them again... :(

I threw three short video clips onto YouTube as well.
They are three song clips from the Chicago gig on May 30th, 2006.
There are clips from Blindness, Mr. Pharmacist, and What About Us.
The clip from What About Us is particuarlly amusing. Check it out:

i have spent hours trying to downlod everything that is of decent quality and over a minute the better stuff ive found so far
Custard Factory - "Assume and Mr Pharmacist" and "hungry freaks"
Blackburn 2002 - Mere Pseud Mag Ed from the dvd i guess
Cricklewood - reformation, scenario, the wright stuff, fall sound, mr pharmacist, and blindness - good stuff for having the songs from reformation
Hacienda - i am damo suzuki again from the dvd i imagine
new york - i am damo suzuki (not availible at
http://punkcast.com/431/) that link cotains another three songs in good quality
New york - 11/03/2006 scenario
also some good tv apperances -
snub tv deadbeat decendants and bill is dead
the late show - im frank and telephone thing
that is the better half of what i have found, ive been downloading the vids using
http://keepvid.com/ it saves it as a file with no name so its annoying renaming them all, and use vcl player to watch them just drag and drop on the player download at -
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
im-into-cb - February 25, 2007 06:01 AM (GMT)
sorry fall sound and blindness are from brick lane not from cricklewood, also i didnt mention some are out of sync i solve this by playing two videos at once, one with no wilume a bit of a bastard i know.

Over the last few days a number of Fall videos collected in youtube's Fall group -
- you probably know
http://www.youtube.com/group/thefall don't you? If not, join now! -
- have vanished. Most certainly it has to do something with the copyright hassle youtube is in.
My advice is: Download as fast and as much of this stuff as you can.
Advice number two: Use Firefox and it's add-on VideoDownloader. It adds an icon to Firefox you just click on to download the flash movie included in the opened webpage. It saves them as flvs but there are free flv viewers as well as free converter programs (converting to mp4 for example; if you add the converted small parts of, like, the BBC Fall documentary to iTunes it plays them almost seamlessly one after another).
If you're a Mac guy you can use the combination of Safari and podtube (first version is free, the second is about $ 5) that saves and converts flv movies to mp4 and optionally adds them to iTunes just in one go.

Mid-90s "The Mixer" with Brix
here. The clip has been on youtube for awhile, but very poorly synced. This is much better.

Did that really happen? Tapes obviously used, but I'm drunk now and can't except that they mimed it, though there is much evidence otherwise. Either that was brilliant, or complete crap. Great recording anyway. Does British television always come off like it's being parodied in British film? It can't be that easy... (wink). The announcer is worth half the clip.
Don't make me miss Scanlon....

On closer inspection it was found to be true- Marcia played the background vocals, and Brix played the 'I'm getting there but not quite having an orgasm' face.
