Title: What was the last movie you saw
Description: Good, bad or indiffo
Cleanville Tziabatz - July 2, 2010 12:31 AM (GMT)
Merge if this has been done.
This is a thread for the last movie you saw, whether you liked the movie or not -- let us know which way u came down on it actually.
Rules:
1. No teevee shows or teevee miniseries, just theatre type movies (direct to dvd ok).
2. You didn't have to see it at a cinema. Dvd / streaming / on teevee okay -- so long as it is a theater type movie.
2. Must be the movie you most recently saw at the time you post. Could be an old movie, but it must be the one u most lately have seen.
I'll start:
Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) Watched this evening. Funny movie but not true to the 1980s experience at all in an emotional sense. Culturally it is only true to the 80s in a very superficial way. Like the young guy. Thought he might be the kid from Superbad gotten fat, but it wasn't. Al the actors and actresses had nice comic timing and expressions. Writing consistently mildly amusing. Worth seeing. Watch with moderate alcohol. No Fall.
GraemeLovesPinkLady - July 2, 2010 12:52 AM (GMT)

A deep and deliberately paced examination of the human psyche, which admittedly might not be immediately apparent from the
trailer. More or less dialogue free, and done and dusted in 70 minutes, this movie is absolutely not what you think it is. Easily the best thing Oshii Mamoru has made since the 80s.

If we had embedded vids, I would have watched that. 4 realz!
sounded vaguely interresant.

^^ It's probably for the best.
BTW, our very own Grimo knows the actress in the grey costume.

The last movie I watched was last weekend. Herzog's Little Dieter Needs To Fly. I thought it was okay, not one of his best. Deiter himself is an interesting dude, very upbeat for everything he's gone through, and very "normal". A good film, worth a viewing.

Anvil, last night.
Liked it, but enjoyed it more when I was telling my wife about it. Not sure about the ending.

I enjoyed it but I had a problem finding the loo halfway through. I'm not really a cinema person any more.

I no longer go to the cinema.
The last fillums I went and saw were The Simpsons Movie and The Planet of The Apes "reimagining".
I had high hopes for both of them - but ended up wanting to punch everyone responsible for these tacky charades.
Never again. :devil2:

No offence, CT, but why do you write in this particular way? The time you save by shortening 'thread' to 'thd' is wasted by extending 'TV' to 'teevee'.

I only opt 4 non-stndrd when they are easier 2 read.
For example:
non-stndrd
scans kwiker than
non-standard.

I watched Telstar a few weeks ago, online as i still won't own a telly.
I'm a big Joe Meek fan and really enjoyed it. I avoided it on release as i mistakenly thought Kevin Spacey played Joe himself, ahem :zzzz:
Some great cameos in there. Carl Barat as Gene Vincent for one. James Corden whom i dislike was an exceptional Clem Cattini.
"Heinz" was rather crap, but hey? :)
Well worth watching but not a barrel of laughs.
Aubrey The Cat - July 2, 2010 04:47 PM (GMT)
CT - it is not easier to read. You don't scan words you know, you recongise them. With a word like standard you don't need to look at it other than to see what it is, which is just a glance; with "stndrd" you have to read it properly, even sound it in your mind, and then re-translate it to what it should be, and that takes longer. I'm not trying to pull your pisser here; it is true, really it is.
The last film I saw - yesterday afternoon - was "Let the Right One In." I saw it a few months ago but back then didn't really understand a lot of what was happening; this time, I had just finished reading the book, and the film was a lot better for it.

Shotgun in mouth, North London.
Blood, brains and bits of skull everywhere. The whole room would have been spattered.
Then you were born. :girl2:

The Fountain-it was on the telly and i missed the first 15 minutes but Im proud to say I think i got the gist of what was going on...eventually
looked fantastic and the different tales in it were engrossing
Audrey Wetherspoon - July 5, 2010 10:14 AM (GMT)
Saw Sherlock Holmes last night, the Robert Downey Jr one. Could have been worse.
Skipper Harris - July 5, 2010 10:32 AM (GMT)
Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief - went with children & was much better than I expected. Great piece of explanatory back story about why Greek gods/demi-gods likely to suffer from ADHD and dyslexia, (ADHD because they're terribly impulsive, dyslexic because they're hardwired into all that weird Greek alphabet...).
Hotel Amnesia - July 6, 2010 10:00 AM (GMT)
Me and my son went to see the final Shrek film in 3D on Sunday.
A bit darker than the previous three films and definitely not as much humour.
The 3D element helped an otherwise average finale for the jolly green giant.
Divvey - July 6, 2010 10:11 AM (GMT)
Fambly Divvey just returned from Toy Stroy 3 in 3d, once the effect had worn off, it seemed superflous.
I would say that for storyline, it's the weakest of the franchise, but still superior kids viewing
The only Hanks movies I can bear.
the "baby" is a great creation.
Faust Banana - July 6, 2010 10:18 AM (GMT)
Mad Max 3 was on ITV last night. I'm a huge fan of the second so anything after that was bound to be a big disappointment.
Skipper Harris - July 6, 2010 10:39 PM (GMT)
Coco Avant Chanel - some misgivings about going to see this film about Coco Chanel's early life but pleased I did. Gloomier than anticipated and works through the three (excellent) lead performances, Coco & her two competing lovers all failing to be truly happy. Bit heavy handed on Coco Chanel's feminist credentials but doesn't overplay dressmaking side of things.

Toy Story 3 in 2D-kis oved it , me too: the scene where Woody nearly gets seen was classic. I can so see Ned Beaty in the Lotsa Hugs guise, didnt know it was Michael Keaton as Ken haha
Head Gardener - July 7, 2010 03:58 PM (GMT)

great, dark - pact with the devil & lizard headed thugs inna London
based nightmare - well recommended B)
Mopiranger - July 7, 2010 05:24 PM (GMT)
daybreakers - a mixed bag, starts out gloomy, dark and atmospheric then turns into a john carpenter style action affair in the second half. i wish they'd have picked one approach, preferably the carpenter side, and stuck with it.
chris.southon - July 7, 2010 10:02 PM (GMT)
I very rarely go to the cinema, but I do get to the local arts centre (Poole) occasionally. The last film I saw was Antonioni's Red Desert: absolutely astonishing
Orphistic - July 7, 2010 10:10 PM (GMT)
Troma's 'Chopper Chicks In Zombie Town'.
Pure class all the way through, jaw dropping even.

"Once upon a time, a little doggy poo lived on the side of a road. He felt all alone in the world. He believed that nobody needed him for anything, and that he had no purpose in life. If only Doggy Poo had a reason for being, then he wouldn't give up on his dream to be useful to the world. One day, Doggy Poo meets a lovely dandelion sprout. Will she explain his purpose in life? Will she help make his dream come true?"

Seen thnat film Timecrimes on Film4 last night for the first time
I enjoyed it
Head Gardener - July 9, 2010 09:41 PM (GMT)
saw Predators last night, hmmm... it's ok I suppose,
better than the Alien vs Predator movies and harks back to
Predator 1 but without the Arnie factor - I was underwhelmed
6 & a half /10 - wait for the DVD
Buy Kurious! - July 10, 2010 06:51 PM (GMT)

I only saw the first half but really didn't enjoy this at all.
The concept was a bit of a stretch to say the least but it was so boring.
Plus Jack Black is in it. The most annoying actor in the history of cinema.
Mos Def was very good, though.
I suspect it probably gets better as it goes on, but it really was that boring that I cut my losses...
Aubrey The Cat - July 10, 2010 07:08 PM (GMT)
^^^^^I got put off that one by the title, BK.
The last film I saw was on Film4 yesterday afternoon, and it was A Matter of Life and Death. I started filling up at the target (notice how one arrow goes straight to the centre on this one?), and carried on all the way through, with breaks. I've thought before, about this film though - there is a huge jump (in time) - they're talking about his operation (and trial) in two days, then the next scene is of Roger Livesey explaining to the surgeon that it has to be done tonight, which I assume is two days later. It was one of the first dvds that I copied, and when I saw the copied disc I thought that maybe the copying process had missed a linking scene out.
