OK, our photocopier is knackered, so I have scanned the 25 pages that Clayts produced.
The printed version cut off the right hand side slightly - can't do anything about that.
I'll start a new thread so it is the first post.

Hanley if you still want a copy let me know :)

OK, This is as good as it'll get.
There will be 5 posts of 5 images - please don't comment until they are all up :)

All sorted and printed out.
Very many thanks for this Craig. Mike, cheers for help, but now not required. Sorry to waste your time. Good to know all the info possibly lost can be found on cache files (?).
I've got what I need anyway.
Excellent.

I'm trying to upload Jilly's Manchester onto Dime, but they now require a 'checksum' file to be added. (.ffp ?).

I quote -
Sun 29th Apr, 2007

(08:22 GMT) DIME requires you to include checksum files in your torrents from now on. You should provide a .ffp checksum file for a torrent with FLACed content and a .md5 checksum file for torrents without FLAC files. For FLACed content a .md5 file will be accepted as a replacement for a .ffp, too.

Any ideas on how I can add this? Where does it sit and what does it contain? Does this sit on the main folder with the flacs, info, and fingerprint files?????

Their help files are a load of pants. Regards.

Not much use on this Mark, but I stuck Checksum in a search engine and got this.

Not tried it out, but there appears to be a download feature :)

altfish - May 1, 2007 06:43 PM (GMT)
Just downloaded it, seems ok - not sure what you do with it, but it does ask you which files do you want to check?

Hanley Played a Fender P - May 1, 2007 06:48 PM (GMT)
Hi Mike.

Found it in Traders Little Helper.
I just added the whole folder to the checksum bit, and it added a file I downloaded from a search (I think!).

Anyway. It's what Dime seem to want, and it's upping now. Get in there first Mike, and I'll have a pint of good old Northern ale please :).

I hate this Dime lark, I really do.

Hi,
I'm currently managing downloads fine from dime but I'm not doing my bit by letting others upload from me. I think it's to do with my firewall any ideas on what I need do to unblock to allow other dimers to share??

ta,
DA

You probably need to open the port you're using for torrenting. These pages might help

Thanks Stefan.

When uploading/downloading to/from Dime I use bit torrent.
The settings are set at automatic , but I notice these can be changed.
Is there any way I can increase my upload speed without jeopardizing the upload?
What I mean is it takes me 24 hours to upload a gig at say 20kbs.
Can I increase the speed manually without fucking it up??

I think you're restricted by your broardband speed?

I get 41kbs max, but I see guys grabbing our recordings at 3 times that speed.

It was the consortium upload of Bolton that made me ask.
I downloaded it at about 400kbs in twelve fookin' minutes!!
I'll put up with the sluggish upload speed then. :)

hoping someone can help.

I have access to dime & have a 2.4 ratio & have downloaded in the past. I now get an error message - aborting the torrent as it could not connect to the tracker while not connected to any peers - my cookies are enabled & dime is a trusted site

I managed to download IWS from another site via bit torrent, so it appears to be dime I have a problem with.

obliged

Dime have had issues with some torrent clients. They ban them due to 'protocol' issues. Not sure what this means. Dime can be quite choosey though.

You could try and change your torrent client?

I'm no expert I'm afraid.

I had a similar problem a long time ago.
I'm sure I deleted bit torrent from my files then downloaded a more recent version.
I'm still using bit torrent on Dime with no problems , try it?
Good luck.

Smudger & Hanley - your advice appears to have worked, many thanks

I've just read the 'upload to dime' instructions above - but I'm still none the wiser...
Unfortunately the bit I really need to understand are pages 24 + 25 and they seem to have some key info cropped off from the RH margin? Can anyone help?

- I am struggling badly trying to seed my first Boot to Dime (Fall, Edinburgh 2/4/82 from the ORIGINAL MASTER) - but my torrent client (and I've tried 2 now - ABC and Bittorent) CAN'T FIND THE TORRENT FILES / FOLDER ON MY HDD - even though I point to it from a drop down list.

I appear to have successfully uploaded + announced my Fall show on Dime (although it seems to have disappeared because of my inability to seed it), but my problem is that my BT client cant 'find' my directory!!!

I've followed the WIKI DIME FAQs meticulously, but typically it doesn't touch on this problem in any of its troubleshooting tips...

Any torrent client experts out there that know all the ins and outs of seeding? or at least can someone provide perfect copies of sheets 24 + 25 above?..... (the links don't work)

This is really doing my nut in !!!!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

PS, I have 20 more Fall masters awaiting upload if I ever do manage to get to grips with this godforsaken torrent seeding nonsense...

mjungblu - August 13, 2008 10:46 PM (GMT)
sorry, I don't have the manual from here.

maybe you could try it with Bittorrent.
open the settings.
change from default directory to ask where to download the folder.
(so the client will ask everytime)

after uploading your .torrent file
you will receive a personalized .torrent file.

open this and let do it a resume.
when asked for the place of the folder with the gig
then direct it to the designed place.

BTW not all versions of Bittorrent are fine for Dime...
some have good results with some older versions - others are going with the newest client.

there are recommendations for utorrent.

I hope this helps. :)

Quality Janitor - August 15, 2008 11:23 PM (GMT)
Thanks for this. HOwever I now have another problem.... in messing around trying to sort my situation, I have now managed to DELETE the torrent / flac files!!!!

:cry2: :cry2: :cry2:

Hanley Played a Fender P - August 16, 2008 12:17 PM (GMT)
I have the original help pages Clayts produced. I will try and find them for you.

Makesure you re-construct your file with all the bits you need as it was originally.

Flacs
Info.txt file
Check Sum file (this not in the original instructions as Dime have amended the way they want this done. Find this Checksum conversion in Traders Little Helper. Just checksum the Flacs).

You no longer have to use a fingerprint file. Dime don't want this now.

This could be why your client can't read the file?

Get these files in you ORIGINAL folder and try again.
