Stephen - February 4, 2006 09:44 PM (GMT)
Which track from the CD version of this fine 1985 album by Half Man Half Biscuit?
Davey B - February 4, 2006 09:52 PM (GMT)
How could anyone hate Nerys Hughes? She is a nice lady. :(
daddyslittlegrandpa - February 4, 2006 09:53 PM (GMT)
Maybe they hated 'The Liver Birds'.

Reflections In A Flat
Great rhyming
Oh darling sugar honey
When it was nice and sunny
We used go see Echo and the Bunny-
-men
She works in Marks and Spencer
La la la la Lech Walesa

One is placed in a quandary and forced to consider one's vote. I'm not at all sure whether to stick with the original LP tracks or go for one of the Trumpton Riot EP tracks, which seems to me to be perhaps a little gauche. And either way there are a lot of valid choices.

My favourite too :D.
Now you are gone forever
shot by your Uncle Trevor
My life it seems so tragic
Ali Bongo's good at contortionism
Also, musically quite beautiful...

Blimey, I've not played this for 10 or 12 years. I love most of these, but have gone for the Jim Reeves one.

I left my heart in Papworth General.
Great track. If only for namechecking Precious Mckensie and Jimmy Saville.
When I'm dying for a cigarette I think of all the free ones that I'd get.
If I killed myself and came back as a Beagle.
tru innit.

Brilliant album which I still listen to frequently. I Hate Nerys Hughes is such a passionate rant that this gets my vote. Reflections in a Flat was a close second.

Trumpton Riots....
They always finish there set with it now. Always a great band and were excellent last Thursday in Derby. :applaud:  :applaud: :D
Sven Hassel Schmuck - September 5, 2009 08:49 PM (GMT)
Trumpton riots for me. Closely followed by Dukla Prague away kit.
Listening to this now... :D
worthless recluse - September 6, 2009 05:36 AM (GMT)
Already voted seemingly, I expect for God Gave Us Life.
'AVE A BANANA
rainmaster - September 6, 2009 07:44 AM (GMT)
Almost impossible to choose one.
God Gave Us Life, I think.
"And he also gave us Lionel Blaaiirr..."
:D

The constant fetishising of this band 20 years on shows a spectacular lack of something.

I think they get better.

That is why I no longer own any of their less-funny-each-time-you-listen-to-them records.

When I play this I...
Laugh
Think of John Peel
Cry
Its the one LP I really connect with him for some reason. Dont know why - Voted Dukla Prauge, but could have been a fair few others.

I agree.
As I pointed out elsewhere, the older he gets the more he has to write about and the more acute the observation. By the time he's 70 the albums will be godlike.

Couldn't agree more. :applaud:
Saw them at The Forum in October 2008 and they were brilliant. 30-odd songs in an excellent 2-hour set.
I love "Albert Hammond Bootleg" - "...I would, rather talk to plankton than to dance with you, I hope your plane back home's a DC10..."
Not on my original 33 vinyl so...
... for me it's "Reflections in a Flat" - lyrical genius.
Criticism of HMHB defies belief! :finger:

Littlegrafter - January 31, 2012 03:57 PM (GMT)
I voted for Albert hammond Bootleg even though it wasnt really on the album - but I guess the poll did explain this.
When I started uni in 1987 this was the album most owned by the 9 people in my flat, 6 out of 9 I think.
Still going very strong - if only people would listen!
