Title: Radio Experiment
Description: TONIGHT

Philonski - November 9, 2005 02:21 PM (GMT)
I should have posted this earlier, but didn't think of it, sorry...

****************************************************

Could you spare a minute of your day – to take part in a unique radio experiment - tonight (Wednesday 9 November) at 6pm?

Soundscape Productions have been commissioned by BBC Radio 4 to produce a ‘Radio Poem’ which explores what happens during one particular minute in one particular day throughout the UK. Presented by Sean Street and produced by Andy Cartwright ‘Then-Now’ will create a 28 minute radio programme out of hundreds of recordings of a single minute of time.

Would you like to be part of the ‘THEN-NOW’ poem – by making a recording of whatever you are doing at 6pm on this Wednesday 9th of November 2005?

We want to collect recordings made at a variety of locations – eg the sounds of people travelling [train, bus, car, railway stations, bus stations, taxi offices] homes [kitchens, garages, playing, residential homes etc..] shops, hotels, pubs, takeaways, doctor’s waiting rooms, hospitals, libraries etc.

If a major event happens on that day we don't want 'special' recordings of people's reactions - we just need recordings of actuality - in which the events of the day may [or may not] have some effect. But please avoid recording other forms of media and try to avoid music backgrounds - unless you can supply music logging details.

We will accept recordings made on any piece of sound recording equipment or video equipment [using a separate microphone if possible] in any format - MiniDisc, CD, DAT, Audio Cassette, Digital Video, DVD etc... Please mark your recording with your name and the location of your recording clearly stating where the minute begins and ends. For example: “Supermarket, Broadgate Lane, Leeds. Track 2 - 02.43-03.43”

Unfortunately [because of the number of recordings] we are unable to offer a fee – just the fun and excitement of taking part in a unique radio experiment. However there is a FREEPOST address for you to contribute material to the programme and we will endeavour to replace your CD/MD etc. if requested.

If you would like to take part please email us at:- then.now@soundscapeproductions.co.uk or visit our Website at www.soundscapeproductions.co.uk which contains hints on what to record, information on how to remember start your recording at 6pm on Wednesday.

Sign up now to be part of the ‘Then-Now’ radio experiment

Don’t forget the Date and the Time:-

Wednesday 9th November 2005 18.00-18.01 [6pm-6.01pm]

Please send your recorded minute [free of charge] to:-

I didn't know about this but we (The Cakes) actually recorded some of our rehearsal that started at 6 tonight. But it says something about not wanting musical backgrounds...

I reckon it could make quite an interesting program, as a one-off.

He only doesn't want musical backgrounds because you have to know all the details of that bit of music to report it to the collecting society. Tell them it was your band recording at the time (i.e. not off a CD) and give the artist/composer for the track you were playing at that time. If it's a cover, they'll need the publisher too.

My recording was really dull - me shuffling round Sainsburys. But at 6.01 and about 10 seconds, the local strange person came in and started shouting.

HELLO - I'm not damian but I do know the answer. You're allowed to include music but they don't want music they can't trace for the purposes of paying the artist etc

Who logged in as me yesterday then? Can't work that one out.

*changes password*

Edit: actually, I've sussed out who it was ... and it's not a problem. Oh well. Sorry about the password change Mr S...

Sorry - that was Dan. We keep logging you out and deleting the cookies, and signing in as me... and still his machine insists it's you. Perhaps changing the password will do the trick! Thanks.

Aye, it was fine once I sussed it - kept me guessing for a minute! Dan is a fine-upstanding fellow and more than welcome to have a "Tonight Matthew" moment on my behalf if he so wishes...
