Title: Belleville Rendez-vous
Description: Go see it.

Go see Belleville Rendez-Vous. It's really odd but damned funny. This looks to be the season of good animated films - that, Spirited Away (which might be crap but I'm going to see it to find out) and Finding Nemo (which, quite frankly, will be the film of the year).
And a handy hint... buy The Times newspaper on Saturdays. They're running a series of free films, where you cut the token out, call a number (National Rate for about 2 mins), write the code they give you onto the token and go see a film for nowt (usually the weekend after). They did loads of them at the start of this year and it has started again - tomorrow I'm seeing Once Upon A Time In Mexico. Also, the October 4 edition will have a voucher for Kill Bill (new Tarantino movie) and October 11 will have one for Intolerable Cruelty (new Coen Brothers movie). The showings are usually at odd times, but worth the effort.
Thank me later.

Is it one ticket per voucher or do you get two so you can take a mate?
Is there anything stopping you buying two papers so you can get two tickets if not?
Sounds cool :D

You get two free tickets per voucher.
I've bought today's paper and the free film is Down With Love, which doesn't sound like my sort of film but does feature Ewan McGregor, so I've phoned for my tickets. Page 24, review supplement.
There is a screening at the Nottingham Warners - that is where you live isn't it?

Yep, just been out and bought one and registered.
Also not sure it's my kinda film but it's free so what the hey!
Definately gonna get the kill bill one, can't wait for that..
Where'd you find out what films are coming up? I looked on the website the phoneline gives out but couldn't see anything.. curious as to what next weeks is..

Actually, I've seen the trailer for 'Down With Love' and it looks rubbish. Bit of a surprise - they're normally all really good films, because in return for you seeing it for nothing, I guess they want you to go and tell people how good it is. I'm still going to go, though, nowt to lose.
The reason I know what films are being shown is that a few weeks back, they gave away a DVD of trailers, and after each one it told you when you'd get a voucher for it. The next one is Holes (looks good), then Kill Bill, Intolerable Cruelty and finally In America. I've just seen Once Upon A Time in Mexico and that was good.
Always read the small print, though - MOST of them are Sunday mornings, but the one I just saw was Saturday night and there have been a couple of midweekers as well.

Sounds cool.
I've seen some bits about Down With Love sounds like a kinda cheesy romantic comedy and looks like it takes the piss out of 60's style films too or something.
Not generally my cup of tea but it might be ok, especially as it's free.
Guess that's one of the good things of this promotion, you go and see films you wouldn't normally bother with and if they turn out to suck you've not really lost anything.
Not long now till "Kill Bill" then, hope it's as good as it should be :D

Well "down with love" was a pleasant suprise, me and my mate both loved it.
when it first started we were both sorta "oh god this is crap" but after a little while we both got into it and loved it. she was in tears with laughter at one point too.
I'm actually contemplating buying the dvd now (it's out on region 1 next week).
Not exactly a classic but there's something about it that was just good somehow.. wierd..
What did you think Mr D?
Damian - September 28, 2003 07:53 PM (GMT)
Hmmm. I thought it started a bit ropey, got surprisingly funny then went a bit drippy at the end. I did like the bloke from Frasier though; although I've never watched Frasier, I knew enough to know that he's more or less playing the same person!
I should imagine it'll be my least favourite of all the upcoming free films, but it had its moments. Have you got tickets for Holes next week? That looks pretty good.
Don't forget too, voucher for free 'Kill Bill' showing in next Saturday's paper...

Didn't get the "holes" one, meant to but never got roung to going the shop.
Definately getting Kill Bill next week though - got a CD in the cinema with trailers on, the Kill Bill one looks excellent. Matrix Revolutions looked good too but i thought that about Reloaded and was a little dissapointed by that.
Down With Love, the final ending was a bit sappy after everything - the bit when she explained everything towards the end though made me chuckle. The guy outta Frasier was good too as you said.

It's going to be dreadful, I reckon. Let's face it, they could have taken the criticisms of the second one on board and addressed them, were it not for the fact that they were both made at the same time. Hopefully I'm wrong, although I suspect a large amount of people who didn't like 'Reloaded' will watch 'Revolutions' anyway. Myself included.

That sucks - you have to get the Kill Bill tickets through a website, the registration form for which is very buggy. And they don't let you know if you've got tickets till next wednesday.. dunno why they couldn't have done it with a voucher the same way as with past screenings... crappy UCI. <_<
Registered though so hopefully will have tickets.
Damian - October 4, 2003 09:19 AM (GMT)
It's particularly annoying for me, as there's no UCI in Bristol. Somehow I knew they'd do something weird for this film, as there was bound to be big demand.
Oh well, I've put my name down for Cardiff tickets, and if I feel like a trip out next Sunday, I'll have a day there and end the night by seeing it. It takes me three quarters of an hour to get there, so it's not out of the question. If I can't be bothered, I'll just pay up later.
Mind you, I'll be in Cardiff for the day today too, before ending up in Newport for a Wildhearts gig! They're doing a warmup for their tour with Motorhead.
