Title: A Silly Little Bit Of Fun !
Description: Name That Tune ?
kiosk - May 12, 2005 06:06 PM (GMT)
In the line of work I'm in I sometimes get sent freebies, this week I got sent a box full of these 20 Question gadgets (They've got them in the Gadget shop £14.99) it's a little hand held computer thingie that asks you to think of an object then it asks you 20 questions and 9 times out of 10 guesses correctly (they're quite good), anyway once all my staff & friends have taken theirs I've still got 5 left over so I thought I'd throw them your way....but u don't get your hands on them that easy......
Below are 20 lines from various SS songs the first 5 people to PM me the name of the songs in correct order gets one...(can't you tell I've had a quiet day at work today ?)
Anyway here goes....
1, Tonight I rang Mr's Harding
2, Girl thinks she's fat.
3, It's probably something she ate
4, Abracadabra I believed her
5, Na na na na na na na na na na
6, Stick your finger in
7, It's the best by far
8, Wear something tight and obscene
9, And stick it somewhere that hurts
10, Ho Hum C'est La Vie
11, I look like death warmed up
12, The pay is as slim as the profit margin
13, This sucks it's a $10 F**k
14, Surf this beach
15, Na, na, na, na I'm not listening
16, Fun just give her a bun
17, You used to tuck me into bed
18, Danger ! Danger ! Watch out
19, Just put your fingers together
20, I got fried like an egg again
I didn't say it was gonna be easy.....you may have noticed I've avoided most album tracks (that would be too easy to cheat)
Good luck....If it's too hard I might post some clues.
P.S I think I've got all the lyrics correct....

OK it doesn't look like anyone else is gonna get all 20 (well done petester) so the 4 highest scores by the end of this weekend (sunday) win.
So far the highest, with a score of 14 is Psycho Phil.

I've got nothing to do tonight. You've just given me the excuse to dig out the albums and my B-sides compilation CD. I could think of worse ways to spend an evening! In fact, last night I did (there's an aimless ramble about it in the 'Other Music' forum).

If you want to make it really, really hard, try to pin them down while 'Ob La Di Ob La Da' is playing unignorably in the background.

Has it been playing in the background where you're working, or has your hitherto-unseen sadistic streak suddenly leapt to the fore?
My place of work offers better torture than that song could ever provide. Here's an e-mail I just sent to my boss...
__________
*****,
So far this morning everything in the 'Done' folder is from me (excepting one from ***** when she had a minute to check in), I've taken care of all three Helpdesk calls that came in, and looking in the EPA folders there's nothing new in there either.
Sorry to moan, but it's a little frustrating when placed against the backdrop of getting an e-mail from ***** asking me how I'm getting on with my 'day job'… seriously, what is he actually doing? If there's a good reason then that's fine… I'd just like to know that there is because I may have overlooked something. *****'s probably hoping to come back to find everything under control on Monday and at this rate he's in for a shock...
Cheers,
Damo.

Who wants my job? Anyone?
Philonski - May 13, 2005 12:38 PM (GMT)
It must be hard working with so many people called ***** - must get confusing.

That's it! That's what's wrong with the company and I was too ingrained in day-to-day affairs to spot it. Can we hire you as a consultant?

I can't think of anything more tedious than coming up with "solutions" for businesses and then watching as they totally fail to make any meaningful changes whatsoever.

Ah, at least you know how the process works then.
But seriously... I spend more time fighting internal battles than doing a constructive job. This pains me because I despise pettiness, unhelpfulness, non-cooperation and all that lot. I do everything I can to set a decent example, and I must be achieving something because I always get a good report. It just boils down to the fact that your average office environment is full of petty idiots with nothing more important in their lives than 'defending their patch'. My grand plans to get out of this cycle forever started early this year, got put on hold somewhat for a number of reasons (one or two of you know a little of what these are) and are finally kicking in again now.
For what it's worth, people often say "the grass is always greener on the other side", i.e. it's anything but. For a point of reference, I talk to my friends regularly and they all say they've never heard of anything like my company. Usually punctuated by nervous laughs.
Erm, sorry. I'll stop ranting now. Which forum am I in again? Ah yes. Silver Sun. Aren't they great?

Been there, done that. 9 GCSEs, 2 AS levels, 4 A levels, 1 degree and 1 NVQ Level 4.
If I never do another exam, write another essay or give another presentation again, it'll be too soon.
Edit: erm, but good luck with your upcoming exams!

What was your NVQ in, Damian?

still, that was the dead good. thanks kiosk, the 20 Q thing came to day and it's great! it guessed trouser leg, but i thought that was easy and gave it "love"... question 18 was something like "do you know lots of songs about it?" and it got it on the first guess! that is impressive.

Mr Fashionable Clothes - May 22, 2005 06:35 PM (GMT)
I just tried it now, without looking at the answers on this page! I got 15! The only one I didn't get that I should have done was number 8! I listened to the damn song as well! D'oh!
Can anyone tell me where I can find Ways of love, Lie back and think of England and Part of your life? I thought I'd got everything by the band but obviously I haven't cos I've not heard of these! Also I haven't heard Spoil your fun by The Bullets. Can anoyone point me in the direction of some Bullets material?
Thanks!
:D
shed_jish - May 22, 2005 06:44 PM (GMT)
ways of love is on the japanese version of neo wave, lie back and think of england is on the bubblegum single, and part of your is on the 7" lava rerelease (with the tap on the cover).
as for the bullets, if you give me your email address, i'll send the tracks on sometime in the next few days? it'll have to be a gmail one, i think, but i still have some invites if you want.
psycho_phil - May 23, 2005 03:48 PM (GMT)
Ways Of Love was also on the Bootleg CD 6 (the Neo Wave demos), no idea if these are still get-holdable-of though.

Ah, cheers dude. Yeah I haven't got a gmail accounf so it'd be appreciated. My e-mail is guy@thegreatestquestion.co.uk .
I've got that damn Lava 7" as well...
Alex - May 25, 2005 07:29 PM (GMT)
i actually got them all but have only just read them proper after being at home for the week. damn i even got the bullets aswell. the only reason i remembered ways of love is due to listening to an onld md with a certain pendletones cover of ways of love and nobody on it. i love the substitute wailing for the nobody outro solo wyatt.

I must have overlooked it... I don't recall seeing the question before. Well anyhow, I failed my earwax collecting NVQ, so I don't really like to talk about that.
The one I got was in... erm... Business Management. I got distinctions in 13 out of the 16 assignments and a distinction overall, which supposedly means I'm set up for a career in management. Except... it was part of a scheme at work that I was on which forced us to take some form of qualification. They wanted me to do an ICSA exam (stocks, shares and boring stuff) and I resisted and resisted. A year later they more of less forced me onto this instead. At which point I thought 'right, I'll show you' and utterly threw myself into it. Another colleague from work was put on it, got a merit overall and the workload nearly finished his marriage.
At Uni, I let myself go after having pushed myself at school and got a 2:2 (in Computing) which disappointed me... although it was a miracle that I even got that considering how little I applied myself. So as well as proving some unknown point or other to my workplace (like they cared), I thought that I would be able to come out of it and say to myself 'see, you CAN do well when you make the effort'. Mission accomplished.
Then as soon as it started, it ended again and I've not made one shred of use of the qualification in question. None of it actually held any interest to me. Work gave me a £250 bonus (tax deductible), and it cost more than that to get there every week and park.
There's probably a moral in this story somewhere, but I'm not entirely sure what it is.
Alex - May 26, 2005 06:33 PM (GMT)
surey it's do what i do, coast along and not really try too hard, knowing full wel i could do well if i pushed myself but the thats hard work. got my first exams tomorrow and due to external circumstances (i could fill in a form and get marks off for but i won't), started revising today. it'll be alright... he says....
uni is annoying. it gets far too vague amongst the lecturers. they say one thing and mean another. i just got a mark back which i did loads for and really tried and to be honest it was one of the best in the class, but i got a 2.2. i emailed the guy and complained. i wasnt happy.
again i dont know what the moral is there but it just annoyed me because i know it was good due the fact i emailed a proffessional to get help with it!
hmm, im moaning and i should be revising....
alex
shed_jish - May 26, 2005 07:18 PM (GMT)
i know what you mean, alex, i need FACTS and SOLID WORKY THINGS. i don't really work like other people as i'd rather have a solid block of writing to learn then something with different fonts and pictures. i also absoloutely HATE learning "wackily" such as, having to write a RAP. i'm also bitter because i'm the only person who didn't think it would be great fun to write a rap.
(and i think i've done really badly in the exam)
(and i keep thinking i'd've done better if i'd of written a rap)
Alex - May 28, 2005 03:54 PM (GMT)
the best one we got was make a display on "director" (similar to powerpoint) about you. that was it. as long as you did stuff like embed fonts and insert key frames it was fine. but there was no mention of time scale. you could do the whole thing in one slide as long as you did al the stuff. i did four slides, a friend did one but included everything, the lecturere had a go at him saying it could have been longer and marked him down for it. so he turned round with the question paper and took him to the dean saying he couldnt be marked for length as it didnt state it anywhere in teh paper, and he won.
such vagueness from one guy in particular, who teaches from a book!
