Title: Weezer
Description: Tickets on sale now
Damian - March 4, 2005 10:18 AM (GMT)
Tickets are on sale now for Weezer at Birmingham and Brixton Academies. I've just booked tickets for the former and am now ridiculously excited.

Another thread entitled "Weezer"! Along with The Libertines, they must be the most talked about band on the Silver Sun message board (apart from SS themselves of course).
I'd love to see Weezer live. It's a shame most bands seem to think only people in the South like good music.

There's a Glasgow date too, although it's still a pretty thin spread...

I got my tickets for Birminghame aswell.. Does anyone think they will add more dates? i can;t see them not playin some others and there is a big gap between some of the shows!!
ANyway, who needs to spend 25 quid to see weezer when you can see tokyo adventures for about 4 quid!! thats much better value for money ;o)

I think they just fit around their Download Festival appearance...

New album imminent... here's the sleeve:

Hooray!
tokyoboy - March 16, 2005 01:42 AM (GMT)
They have called the album "Make Believe" but i think it's a bit strange as there is a band called make believe that seem quite big....
I dunno i was just a bit confused when i first heard it!
Alex - March 17, 2005 01:25 AM (GMT)
i eagerly await it. its annoying last time they toured the UK they played southampton guildhall. now they've blatantly moved up a notch to the arena gigs. so annying! cant really afford t, and i'd rather see them at somewhere smaller.
talking of weezer, if you like them get "rock'n'roll part 3" by ozma. i guarantee you'd mistake it for weezer if you didnt know it, i swear.

Should I buy this and let you steal it like my other Weezer albums, Alex, or simply cut out the middleman and have it sent directly to you???????

I was at that show!
I don't think Birmingham and Brixton Academies are a step up to the arenas...

Well, that's what happens when bands get more successful. I don't understand people that don't want bands to get success.

I want every band I'm into to be as big as possible. The only thing I don't like is that you then generally have to travel further to see them, but that's life.
In fairness though, I don't think Alex was saying he didn't want success for them.
Alex - March 18, 2005 01:24 AM (GMT)
no im glad they have success without really selling out along the way. i'm just annyed, they've been elevated up a notch on the gigs circuit. it goes bars, clubs, town halls, academies, arenas, U2
they're two rungs off the top now.
oh, and cut the middleman!

I wondered where I had read that. Is it definite? I looked on various listings sites and couldn't see Weezer listed for Download so thought I must have been mistaken. If they play the Friday, I'll be very tempted, with Feeder (will they rock it up more with it being Download?) and Dinosaur Jr already confirmed.
tokyoboy - March 19, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
OZMA!!! bloody ace band! that is an amazing album...
My recomendations are...
The Anniversary (Designing a nervous breakdown)
The Stereo (Threee Hundred)
The Impossibles (Return)
DO IT!

Not confirmed but an appearance on Friday looks likely.

the female harmonies on designin a nervous breakdown are brilliant. their new band the only children ain't too hot though. features casey of hot rod circuit but were a bit of a let down.

The new Weezer single sounds like "I Love Rock And Roll"!
It has only been played once on radio (and shouldn't have been), but that didn't stop tenacious Weezer fans from grabbing it and chucking it on the web...
like so.

I got a bit confused... thought you meant the Jesus and Mary Chain song at first!
tokyoboy - March 22, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
the only children ....
How can you go from an amazing band (The Anniversary) to that?!? It's terrible.. i was gutted when i heard it... Bad news... very bad news
x
I've not heard the new Weezer single but i've heard it got the feeling of the pinkerton era! Sounds intresting!

Are day tickets available for Download? I really want to go on the Friday now (Feeder have said they're playing some old stuff) and with Weezer strongly rumoured, Dinosaur Jr and Garbage too. I can only find weekend tickets...

Did a bit of searching around - the answer appears to be no.
From what I gather about Download, the whole thing seems to hit new lows in terms of how a UK festival treats its punters... and there's every indication that other major festivals will head the same way, especially with the vile Clear Channel organisation looking to take over Mean Fiddler.
Edit: limited quantities of day tickets apparently available from 11 April - but I wouldn't get one relying on Weezer's appearance...

Thanks Damian, you were able to find out more than me. I just hope I don't forget like I did Glastonbury...
I'll go with the promise of Feeder playing some old tracks. I wouldn't mind seeing Dinosaur Jr and Garbage too.

I just found out Download day tickets went on sale today, so booked one. I had hoped to see Weezer there, but five minutes later I found out they're playing in Austria instead!

Done just that, had a cold since Sunday so decided a bit of retail therapy would do the trick, also bought Hot Hot Heat & HAL CD's too not had chance to listen to them yet I'm sure 1 out of the 3 must be OK the safe bet's Weezer.
Damian - May 9, 2005 08:25 PM (GMT)
All three of those are great, although I'd save Hal for a lazy sunny afternoon.
Alex - May 9, 2005 11:53 PM (GMT)
i'm so tempted by weezer, but its 26.50 a ticket. that is a lot of money for a poor student. i'm seeing what the lady friend does then i'll make up my mind.

Just an opinion on Weezer - Pinkerton really is a fine album, isn't it? Having listened to it almost none stop in my car over the past few days, it feels like I'm listening to it with new ears. All the songs, despite been wrapped up in loud, untidy, feedback guitars and clattering drums, are about heartbreak and pain. And Rivers does it without being whiny and emo-lite! Butterfly is a beautiful song. I'm giving the debut similar treatment now.
Damian - May 13, 2005 02:26 PM (GMT)
Isn't Pinkerton largely about his dalliances with a number of ladies best described as 'barely legal'? Allegedly.
goodgoon - May 13, 2005 02:37 PM (GMT)
Hmm... 'Tired Of Sex', 'Across The Sea', 'Falling For You'... it all makes sense now.
Damian - June 13, 2005 09:37 AM (GMT)
Half day today at work... leaving at noon... off to Birmingham... very excited. That is all.
Alex - June 13, 2005 08:30 PM (GMT)
im heading to brixton tomorrow. freee ticket. musnt grumble. taking a half day from glastonbury stuff as i've been putting in the overtime! and a full day off on thursday (thats to go to stonehenge and see a dvd i made for the national trust)
ready for some rockin' though tomorrow.

Well, as ever, not much in terms of stage showmanship... but man, do they have tunes. And in spite of the renowned 'oddness' of Rivers, they played everything you'd expect. If there had been no Buddy Holly after I travelled all the way to Birmingham, that would have been rubbish.
I borrowed someone's satellite navigation system to get to the venue. Top tip: don't waste your time using these things in city centres. They will try and take you down roads you're not allowed to go down, and when you go somewhere else they recalculate your route to take you straight back. D'oh.
Oh, and The Bullring is weird, isn't it?
