Title: Who Are You?
Description: Introduce yourself..

Ste - July 15, 2003 02:23 PM (GMT)
Thought it might be nice to have a permanent topic where people can introduce themselves and post a bit of info about themselves, so here it is...

Guess I'll start then..

I'm Ste - hello!

I'm 23 and work in IT doing websites and stuff.

I've been listening to silver sun since erm.. 1996 i think - saw them supporting "Sleeper" in Derby and was hooked.

I like loads of bands but favourites (aside from Silver Sun of course) include: Aerosmith, Flaming Lips, Echo & The Bunnymen and Harry.

Fave films: Evil Dead trilogy, True Romance, Spinal Tap..

Can't think of anything else to write at the mo so over to you..

petester - July 15, 2003 05:43 PM (GMT)
I'm Pete, I'm 21 and I'm about to start a Masters in Advanced Computer science. I've moved back home for a year cos I can't afford it any other way. I live in Doncaster, and spend my spare time playing football and going out. Fave bands ~(as well as Silver Sun) include Ok:Go, Fountains Of Wayne, Queen, and the Gin Blossoms. Fave movies would be Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Monty Python's Quest For The Holy Grail.

Next...

Jayem - July 16, 2003 12:15 AM (GMT)
I'm John, I'm 19. I work in an office and I don't earn anywhere near enough, dammit.

I'm learning to drive at the moment, so I can get to gigs because, as I think I've ranted about before, nobody ever plays within 80 miles of this dump.

My favourite band (just ahead of Silver Sun) is Aerosmith, I'm currently listening to a lot of Lagwagon, White Stripes, 45s (found a copy of their album at the weekend... pure class), Sleeper, The Mars Volta... erm, pretty much anything actually. And Toploader - just thought I'd mention them, if only to wind up a certain other member of this forum ;)

Favourite films... The Crow, and Goldeneye... that's about it I reckon.

So yeah, that's me right there.

Damian - July 16, 2003 08:31 AM (GMT)
Well, I'm Damian, I'm a quite horrifying 30 years old (still younger than JB, but I don't believe in lying just because we're on the Internet!)

I work in IT support having got a degree in Computing from Manchester University in 1995. For me, the gig bug bit in at the start of Uni and never left me. I live in Bristol, only half an hour from the Glastonbury Festival which is damned handy. I got into Silver Sun when Steve Lamacq played 'Lava' - I found the first EP the next day and bought Lava as soon as it was released. Can't imagine Zane Lowe playing anything like that somehow now that the eternally misguided Radio 1 have given him a job...

Favourite film? Comedy - This Is Spinal Tap, serious - The Killing Fields.

Bands - this won't come as a massive surprise, but in addition to SS there's Fountains of Wayne, The Wildhearts, Jellyfish, Radiohead, Manic Street Preachers, The Samurai Seven and far too many more to list. More recently acts like Athlete, The Darkness, Muse, Magnet, and again too many too keep going on about.

I suspect many of you who read the old board for long enough knew most of the above anyway, apart perhaps from the bit about how ancient I am!

Cheers,
Damian.

Alex H - July 23, 2003 12:14 AM (GMT)
Hey there folks, I be Alex. On the last board I was known as "Hole In My Head" till I lost my password, then there ended up being far too many Alex's...

Just finished 3-4 years of near hell at uni, as a final insult they presented me with the wrong degree at graduation!

I love music, my favourite bands being Feeder, Superdrag, Fountains Of Wayne, James, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Melys, Jupiter Day, Mostly Autumn, Teenage Fanclub, Sugar, Symposium, Silver Sun, Weezer and lots more...

As for Silver Sun, it wasn't until 2000 when I started to buy their stuff...not seen the guys live yet so obviously hoping for that and all the original line up. Fave SS tunes - I'll See You Around, High Times, Julia, There Goes Summer.

goodgoon - July 23, 2003 11:00 PM (GMT)
How's it going? My real name is obviously not Goodgoon, otherwise my parents would have a lot to answer for. This is my nickname, my real name is Dave, I'm 18, and I got into Silver Sun only last year after Richard Kane's brother Andy told me that his brother was in a Top 40 band. I didn't believe him, until he actually showed me tons of memorabilia and recordings, and showed me his picture on the Internet. I then decided to listen to the music, expecting sub-par mid 90s indie guff, a la Oasis, but was surprised to hear refreshing melodies and heavy guitars.

Other bands I like include Blur, The White Stripes, Doves, and get this, Tears For Fears! My favourite Silver Sun song is Click, one of the B-sides from Lava.

That'll do...

tom_edwards - July 24, 2003 03:05 PM (GMT)
Hey everyone. I'm Tom and I just got made a sub-editor at the Drowned In Sound website. I'm also a student in my spare time and sell CDs on Netsounds.com. I got into Silver Sun very late (in 2001, I think) so shame on me! However, I attempted to make up for it by writing a nice article about them for DiS and now James is talking to me again.

I like loads of music, particularly British late-'90s stuff (Mansun, Midget, Geneva, Ash, Symposium), singer/songwriter stuff (Evan Dando, Ben Lee, Rufus Wainwright) and even some rawk stuff too (Hell Is For Heroes, Aereogramme, Hole), plus loads more.

Top 5 films: Cruel Intentions, Quills, American Beauty, Ghost World, Donnie Darko. Fave other stuff: writing, psychology, philosophy, history, guitars, singing and Buffy.

That's me! - tom.x

Alex - July 25, 2003 12:36 PM (GMT)
hi im alex.

im 19 and have liked silver sun since just after the 1st album came out. i started working in a record shop at 13 (very illegally) and opened a box of cds on like my 2nd week and put on silver sun (the cover got me). i was blown away.

silver sun has been the best band in the world since then. but other music includes anything with guitars in it (except the ben folds five). i have a passion for punk music, be it modern or vintage. everything from alkaline trio, midtown, count the stars, AM Radio, and various other obscurer american underground acts which it seems no1 has heard of. i like the modern rock n roll thing aswell, hot hot heat, D4, datsuns. like i said, if its got guitars in it, i like it. and the 2nd best album ever (in my humble opnion) is london calling by the clash.

top five films. (in no order) - topgun, shooting fish, spinal tap, italian job, bullit

in about to go to university in southampton and spread the word of silver sun as far and wide as possible.

i play guitar pretty well (but would never consider myself musician) and would love to be able to play the opening riff of golden skin but i cant figure it out.

i havent seen silver sun live but considering my age i have seen most of the bands i really love live. met a few aswell and have some memorabilia.

thats enough of me.

onslo - July 25, 2003 01:35 PM (GMT)
ello!

my name is Adam. from London.

shed_jish - July 26, 2003 06:07 PM (GMT)
i'm josh, i'm 16 as of right now.

ich leibe - silver sun (of course!) simon and garfunkel, the cure, ben kweller, the clash, the shins, and a few other bands whose names don't currently spring to mind. But, those are my favourite bands of the moment.

i'm studying for A levels in psychology, media, english language and critical thinking at new mills sixth form. with matt, who is elephant56.

i've not seen silver sun live as of yet but i have tickets for the cardiff show! my favourite concert so far was Ben Kweller at the night 'n' day.

that is all!

xx

silver scot - August 8, 2003 10:55 AM (GMT)
I'm David, 24 and a Silver Sunaholic! I first heard of SS in '96 when my best mate bought the lava single because he 'liked' the cover! I'm forever indebted to him!Probably like you guys, I have got everything that's SS, bootlegs & all ( the only exception being the Sharks music video). I'm extremely proud of my collection & the fact I bought the first 2 SS tickets for their last gig at king tuts. Like you guys, I've been waiting a long time for THE return! Can't wait. What else? Got a film-making degree and work in a cinema. Hope to make blockbuster movies and have SS do the soundtracks to a few of them. Hey, a guy can dream! My favourite bands apart the obvious are Poor Old Ben (www.pooroldben.org), Live, The Darkness, Cosmic Rough Riders and Teenage Fanclub. I play a bit of guitar and support Greenock Morton FC!

Timmy Dub - August 8, 2003 02:19 PM (GMT)
Hi there, this is Tim, 19 from Birmingham. Got into Silver Sun around 97 I think when my uncle gave me a copy of Lava on 7" - he bought a copy, got home and realised there were two vinyl copies stuck together! I was hooked as soon as I put it on the turntable. Saw SS for the first time in Wolves 1998 - one of the best gigs I've ever been to, with the exception of The Young Offenders (whatever happened to them?) Favourite bands: The Presidents Of The United States Of America, Queen, Silver Sun, The Samurai Seven, Mad Caddies, Honeycrack, The Jellys, The Darkness, Idlewild, Undeclinable and Foo Fighters. There's probably a whole lot more.

moopymoogle - August 14, 2003 03:12 PM (GMT)
Hiya!

I did a bit of this in the main board thing but then noticed this topic!

i'm kate, 21, i've liked Silver Sun since i saw the Golden Skin video on MTV2 (can't remember exactly when this was...but MTV2 was called M2 then!). Not actually seen them live due to a combination of band not being together, me not having any money and me not being allowed to go out, but that's going to change in October hopefully!!

I used to be a student but got a degree a few weeks ago, so i'm a bit jobless at the moment! i did a physics degree but didn't do very well in it and didn't really enjoy it that much, so i'm looking for work thats a little scientific but not necessarily physics related!

i'm on the Wildhearts mailing list and help organise antiproduct's street team, other than that i'm usually travelling round the country going to gigs in mad places (which seems to have become a bit of a hobby). Consequently i've made a few friends up and down the country and travelling to see them is much fun!

i play guitar, i'm in the process of setting up a band (with mates from Nottingham and Manchester!) we've had one rehersal when we were all doing something for another band and decided that it would be fun to form our own - despite it being near-impossible to have all 3 members together at once!!! watch this space...

other music i like - Wildhearts, Antiproduct, Backyard Babies, The Supernaturals, Rat Daddy, Loose Thread, Zen Motel, The Jellys, Rancid, Beach Boys, Devin Townsend, Iron Maiden, A, Radiohead, Cheap Trick, Gomez, Supersuckers, Neil Leyton, Aerosmith, Celebrity Squares, Aphex Twin, REM, The Divine Comedy, Johnny Zhivago, Ben Folds Five, Fantastic Plastic Machine, The Pixies...too many more to mention...

have fun and ROCK!

kate

Bone Idle - August 22, 2003 02:50 PM (GMT)
I'm Tim, I'm 24 and I'm from Hampshire although these days you can usually find me hanging around in Twickenham in south-west London, 'cos that's where I live! I'm not actually bone idle - I'm really a very hard-working public servant (I'm training to be a probation officer, which means being a student for two years plus working full-time at the same time!) - it's just a pseudonym that I'm not going to bother to explain right now. Suffice to say, if you see Bone Idle or Bone_Idle lurking around somewhere, it's probably me.

I used to read the old message board a lot and sometimes post on it, but since it got all complicated I haven't dared to make an appearance - until now! (I can hear you all trembling!) Can't figure out what most of these funny buttons do, though.

I can't remember whether I heard Lava on the radio before I bought the single, but I knew it was a work of genius from that moment onwards. Sadly I've only seen Silver Sun twice, at V97 in Chelmsford and then in Oct 1998 at Rock City (The Rig) in Nottingham (if you were there, I was the gibbon-like one down the front grinning like an idiot during Last Day. But I'm evangelical about them with any serious music fans I meet, and have been spreading the word about the new album ever since I read about it on Drowned in Sound (the BEST music website in the world EVER - and no, I don't work for them). Roll on the gig at the Barfly...

psycho_phil - September 9, 2003 09:15 AM (GMT)
Hi, I'm Phil, i'm 20, nearly 21, and i'm from Cumbria, but i'm in Reading at the moment, and will be for quite a large amount of time, cos i'm at uni here. maths & meteorology if anyone's interested.
I'd say Silver Sun are probably my favouritest band in the world...ever! Although i've never seen them play live. Cumbria's not really that good for gigs. i cant remember when i first got into silver sun, probably around the time of Golden Skin. i remember i tried to buy the first album from Britannia (something like that, a mail orger CD thing anyway), but they sent me Silverchair instead. bastards! i sent it back. managed to track down the album a few months later in Virgin.
i've posted here b4, and on Aarons site when it was around. i used to go under the names of Pip or Pipio, but now with the new board, i have called myself psycho phil, as that's my uni nickname. i'm not really a psycho though, so dont worry.
other bands i like: the Cooper Temple Clause, muse, ash, the coral, easyworld, the libertines, idlewild, the hives, fountains of wayne, the wannadies, samurai seven. and many more. i like good charlotte as well, so you can all feel free to point and laugh if you so desire.

AKourik - October 10, 2003 09:57 AM (GMT)
hellooooo, I'm Angela, i'm 20 and in my last and final year (EEK!) of an Audio and Music Tech degree at APU in Cambridge. no idea at all what i'm gonna do when i've finished, but travelling New Zealand seems like a good idea (put off the real world for as long as possible!)

my fave bands (other than Silver Sun natch) are: Syposium, Fountains of Wayne, AntiProduct, Wildhearts, the Jellys, Regurgitator, the Cure, the Deftones, A Perfect Circle, Resin, Rat:Daddy and any other band/song that's fun and cheesy (such as the One and Only and the Final Countdown <blushes>)

i first got into Silver Sun sometime round the beginning of the first album. could even've been first single, but that's ages ago and my memory sucks. i'm dead excited bout their return :D i thought they were gone, then randomly checked for websites of em for research for an assignement and stumbled upon this pot of golden good news! who said assignments are a waste of time

jif!

my name is josh. i like silver sun, queen, the clash --alot--

the cure, the damned, guttermouth, sex pistols --not so much--
and quite a lot more.

i play in a two peice called thunder radio.

i'm possesive about silver sun, but hate myself for it. i do lend the album, and tell people to buy the stuff, but it's not easy!

I'm Lauren, and Jish introduced me to Silver Sun. I admit I'm crappy, and can't remember the title of the one song that I really love...Something about a tin of beans...*brain fart*
Anyway. Other stuff I like.....Manic Street Preachers, T-Rex, VNV Nation, Covenant, Siouxsie And The Banshees, The Cure, The Mission, The Sisters Of Mercy, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, The Damned, Tori Amos and lots of other stuff, which I can't be bothered to type up.
I'm 16 and go to school with Jish. I have nothing interesting to say, except that I will be visiting the tree that Marc Bolan crashed into in just over a week.

Check out my website please :)

I'll also comment on your good choice of naming Sympo and FoW as the first 2 of your favourite bands...

I'm d00mw0lf, used to be a big fan of the 'Sun "back in the day"... fave song... hmm. anything off the "too much, too little too late" ep. 'specially their cover of Xanadu (sure i've spelt that wrong).
Other fave music... new model army, project pitchfork, the levellers, the cure, the damned, the cult, alien sex fiend, sexgang children, zombina and the skeletones, fields of the nephilim, ned's atomic dustbin, oingo boingo, lords of the new church....
Oh - and i know Jish. he's slept on a pile of shoes in my room before. we're best mates we are.

Damian - September 5, 2004 11:15 PM (GMT)
I notice that you put New Model Army first on your list of bands. They're also my housemate's favourite band and he has seen them about 90 times... he's also of the opinion that everyone who follows the band enough gets to know of others who do the same. Time to test the theory. Does the name Colin Devereux mean anything to you?

I've never heard a note of their music myself, but what I do know about the band is that people who are into them tend to be REALLY into them.

Colin Devereux... don't know anyone of that name. Either our paths have never crossed, or i only know him by a screenname :) But he's right - a lot of the hardcre fanbase know each other. NMA fans are a very friendly bunch - i've known NMA fans to give a car to someone *just* because they were one of the tribe...
Yeah - NMA are addictive as hell - ask your mate to lend you a copy of "Vagabonds" (insist on the one with the long ed alleyne-johnson intro!) or "No Rest". listen to the song about 4 times - after that you'll either be sick to death of them or think they're THE best band ever and start wearing clogs :P

Colin is indeed a clog wearer. Didn't realise that was an NMA thing but I should have guessed!

Yeah - clogs are a big part of the NMA look (see also tattoos and hair you could declare war with  ) Ask him if they're proper clogs. From Hebdon Bridge, Walkley, Sheffield... Mine were from hebdon bridge, but they went via bradford. a bloke with a BD7 post code sold 'em to me for a very reasonable price B)
Woukdn't recomend them for pillows though! (even if jish did use mine for that in........ London? Curedrinks? the one where i sleptin the wardrobe?)
