Title: New Ben Folds Album In April

Damian - January 27, 2005 11:15 AM (GMT)
The new Ben Folds album "Songs For Silverman" comes out in April.

Here's a lot of stuff about it.

This makes me very happy indeed.

Nope, he was only ever planning to take two or three tracks off the EPs (and re-record them), and the rest was all going to be new. In the end, there's only one EP track on it....

...which I have kindly highlighted in bold. I also censored the first track name for Nick's benefit!

Unlike the last record (a live one with him on piano) and the one before that (a full band including a guitarist), this one has just been made with him, a bass player and a drummer. What a strange idea - do you reckon it could catch on? :D

Had to dig hard to find this thread!

Saw BF last night at Sheffield.(Alex saw him on Friday in Southampton)

All seater gig unreserved seating, first come first served.

For about five songs.

Then the audience surrounded the stage and a sort of mass love in took place. Carolyn and I watched the show standing on chairs from about 10m.

Opening with The Cure's In Between Days (I Think!) the set bounded along with unbridled enthusiasm. Can't be bothered to list the set, but I have the feeling it was somewhat flexible, judging by the band.

135 minutes of sheer joy! Lovely to see a musician enjoying himself onstage, and not just giving a "professional" show. Full range of songs, from Brick to most of Songs for the Silverman and stuff off the ep's.

It was one of the best gigs I've been to, but boy, did my legs ache after two hours balanced on a chair.

Thanks, Ben.

Only three days until I catch him in Warwick... I hope we get the same kind of deal everyone else has been getting with set length etc!

He has certainly made up for the cancellation... new album, gigs now in the height of summer, 2+ hours long AND bringing the band (the shows were originally going to be him solo at the piano, hence the seated venues). Hooray for him.

the folds man was brilliant indeed. its been a long time since i've wanted to see him. the last ben folds five tour i nearly went to but decided against it at the last minute. what a fool i was. i think this more than made up for it. oh yeah!

philosophy is just one of my all time favourites and to hear it live sent shivers down the spine

That was one of the best gigs I've been to in my life, and I normally can't stand seated gigs (although we rushed down the front at the end). Over two hours' worth of insane piano joy.

I'm writing this in an Internet Cafe in Harrow, dying in half a suit, waiting for an evening reception. Like the main event, it's outdoors. Sweaty.

(I've just had a mandarin milkshake, mind, which was nice)
