Title: Gta: San Andreas

goodgoon - January 12, 2005 04:20 PM (GMT)
Anyone here a gamer? I have just finished all the storyline missions on the fantastic and not-as-sick-as-the-tabloids-make-it-out-to-be GTA: San Andreas. I won't bother trying to complete it 100% though, as I've grown quite fond of having a life.

Jayem - January 12, 2005 07:27 PM (GMT)
Good game, but I'm naturally bloody useless at it.

shed_jish - January 12, 2005 09:53 PM (GMT)
i completed GTA 3 in the summer the day after i finished my exams. I would of been outside in the fresh air, only i was supposed to be revising. But just so you know, i was out pretty much everyday of the next two moths after that.

erm, i never really got into san andreas.

Damian - January 12, 2005 09:53 PM (GMT)
Ditto. I play games as a thing to fill spare time every now and then. To be good at them you've got really work at them and I don't have the inclination. I didn't even get as far as most of you at slime volleyball!

elephant56 - January 12, 2005 09:59 PM (GMT)
ooooh! thats just sparked a revisit. god psycho slimes hard!!!

i have to say it did become a way of life in the flat for a while before xmas. but fortunately the ps2 broke so we cant play it at the moment. it is good on so many levels though. im pants at the missions but i can spend a while just messing around running people over and killing them. im a nice guy though...honest...

elephant56 - January 13, 2005 04:15 PM (GMT)
I got given a PS2 with an 'eye toy' for chrimbo, they're quite good, only got the one proper game with it though, Pro Evo 4. Woo for that, I never got into GTA3, Vice city and San Andreas on Pc though...

Now you're talking. The Eye Toy breaks the golden rules of your average game by being a) a social activity and B) good exercise!

Oh, and being drunk helps too.

Yeah, my neighbours looked a bit bemused at me flailing at the telly whilst playing "Boxing Chump". Classic.

Scarily enough, I found my calling with the disco dancing. Nobody else could get it and I sussed it really quickly. Air guitar (on the new one) is also top.

Philonski - January 14, 2005 10:02 AM (GMT)
Dan gave me one of those Namco 5-game joysticks that plugs into the telly for Christmas. I've never had the patience to stick with any computer game much before (apart from Ms Pacman) but now suddenly I'm glued to 'Mappy' every evening and humming the tune with my eyes wide open all night.

Weren't you a slime volleyball addict as well?

I bought my brother that joystick for Christmas as we grew up with Ms Pacman (we lived in America in the early 80s and the machines were everywhere). Had a go on that but didn't get a chance to play Mappy... he's taken it back to Manchester with him now.

Nick - January 14, 2005 12:39 PM (GMT)
I don't do games.

I'm sad enough as it is.

No... I gave up after a couple of weeks. Mappy appears to be growing into more of a long-term affliction.

Best of all, you can take it with you when you go to Cardiff!

I'm curious about Mappy now. I might download MAME (arcade emulator) and check it out.

Mmmmmm....Computer games now there's a subject close to my heart...
I've got a couple of Game shops ooop in West Yorkshire, as for playing them I don't really do that much these days (It's kinda like taking your work home with you.)
Although just recently I've been known to spend an hour or two on Halo 2 on Xbox Live, It's much better knowing your playing against REAL people (although I'd sometimes rather not know that i've had my ass whooped by some 7 year old American kid.)

Favourite game of all time : Shenmue : Dreamcast....Once spent an whole christmas playing this...

But then again I do like my retro stuff, unfortunately the old games never live up to the memories you once had of them.....someone hand me a tissue please.

Jayem - January 15, 2005 01:42 AM (GMT)
My favourite game of all time is Super Mario 64.

I still have a Nintendo 64 (hell, I still have a Spectrum as well) and I still play it a lot to this day. It's got to be getting on ten years since it was originally released, but it never seems to get old.

Philonski - January 15, 2005 11:06 AM (GMT)
DISASTER! Mappy has broken! The tune started going mad and repeating phrases and beeping and squealing and then some of the cats stopped chasing me, and then it threw a fit as I was entering the bonus round, the colours went funny and then it disappeared! :(

Edit: Oops. I saw so distraught I didn't think of changing the batteries...

Thats what I'm playing on at the moment i've got the new Nintendo DS handheld on import and it comes with it, it's even better than the N64 version (more levels e.t.c) except you can play it anywhere...Fanbloodytastic.

Jayem - January 15, 2005 07:13 PM (GMT)
Can we take that as a hearty recommendation of the DS? I was looking at it online last week and thought it looked pretty decent. And let's face it, anything that allows me to play Mario 64 on the move has got to be great.

10 years! 10 years!

i'm 16 and i think that's the first time i've truely felt old.

i love super mario 64, it was the first computer game i completed. MY favourite 64 game was lylat wars. Which i rock at.

Jayem - January 15, 2005 09:57 PM (GMT)
Heh, I'm 21, imagine how old I'm feeling! Particularly when there's talk of the original Sonic The Hedgehog games... hard to believe it's nearly 14 years since they were out.

Alex - January 16, 2005 01:36 AM (GMT)
i remember when they came out. i too am 21 and feel old!

unfortunately we werent really allowed them. we were always one step behind games wise, ie master syystem when the mega drive came out, mega drive when playstation, playstation 3 years too late. consequently ive never been very good at games but always enjoyed watching others play them!

Does anyone stretch as far back as the Commodore 64?

Yes.

goodgoon - January 17, 2005 02:22 PM (GMT)
That was my first computer. I must have been about 5. Yup, waiting 10 minutes for the cassette to load (type LOAD, then press play of the tape, then press SHIFT and RUN on the keyboard, something like that), see the opening screen flash up, only for the damn computer to decide to crash at the last minute.

Them were the days!

shed_jish - January 17, 2005 06:17 PM (GMT)
not me, but my brother had something that used tapes and took half an hour to load.. possibly an amstrad? anyone remeber invade a load?

elephant56 - January 17, 2005 08:35 PM (GMT)
I'm no where near as 'old skoool' as that, the first memory of playing computer games was on a 286 with DOS. I think the game was "catz" or "dig". I remember being 5 and getting a shiny 386 and running round the living room jumping up and down for at least three weeks. Or maybe thats an exageration, it was more like 10 minutes.

That was the C64.

Edit: Hmmm... I may not have time for much of this these days, but knowing the above kind of indicates a misspent youth, doesn't it?

Ste - January 17, 2005 11:03 PM (GMT)
My first computer was an Amstrad CPC 464 which ran the games off tape. Remember being addicted to "Harrier Attack" and "Roland On The Ropes" along with the (then) excellent Ghostbusters and Batman games..

I then got a Master System, later followed by a Mega Drive then a Saturn and then a Dreamcast (RIP), was always a big Sega fan.

Now I've got my Ps2 and Xbox.. play the xbox mostly - most of my gaming time is split between Pro Evo 4 and Outrun 2 at the moment.

Got a Gamecube too as Index were selling em off for £40, barring Viewtiful Joe and F-Zero though it doesn't get a lot of use. Mario et al don't seem to do it for me these days..

Kiosk mentioned xbox live earlier, does anyone else on here play on there? We could get a silver sun fans Halo2 clan going...

Ok.. i'm probably being too sad now..

My gamertag is SilverSte though if anyone on here wants a game sometime.

Oh yeah, the loads took so long a little mini game of Space Invaders would appear when you least expected it. Ah, for the world of joysticks!

I'll add you to my friends list...my gamer tag is....Silver Sun....well what else was I gonna Pick ?

Bringing this thread up to date for a while I managed to get my hands on a PSP today.....to say I'm impressed is an understatement, the graphics are fantastic almost PS2 quality, as much as I hate to say it (I'm a big Nintendo fan.) It's gonna blow the DS away.
Only down side the battery life isn't fantastic...

right then where were we Ahh yes C64......

shed_jish - February 6, 2005 06:00 PM (GMT)
so has anyone ever played Rez?
i'm sort of interested in it... i might have a look on ebay...

Ste - February 6, 2005 06:19 PM (GMT)
I've got it on PS2, have a look in Gamestations second hand section you can often find it cheap in there.

It's really good and very addictive.. it's a bit like Panzer Dragoon if you've played that, you just fly along and shoot things basically but the graphics and sounds change depending on what you shoot and your timing.. all the sound effects kinda work together to build up the music.

It's hard to explain but when you play it, it'll all make sense.. honest!

I'd place Rez alongside Ico as one of the most impressive and fresh PS2 games around.

Rez is just... mad.

It fits in the EyeToy category of 'games for people that don't like games', and I don't mean that snobbishly as I'm a big EyeToy fan.

so do i get Rez or Ico?

actually, it'll just depend on which is cheaper. I'm going to trade in "splinter cell" which is so dull that i considered burning it.

From what I gather, both, although I've never played Ico.
