Sweet G 24 - September 5, 2003 08:44 AM (GMT)
Hi All,
Another Newbie!
Had no idea this forum existed, though I've loved these guys for a long time!!!!
Seen Silver Sun twice! No 3 come October!!!!
1st was London Astoria 5/5/98
2nd was London ULU 24/11/99
Hope to get to know you all in time
Ciao
Anyone called Natalia ere?
Philonski - September 5, 2003 09:14 AM (GMT)
Natalia's not been here for a couple of years, unless she's got a new name. I met her at the ULU gig in 1999. She was excitable to say the least.
Sweet G 24 - September 5, 2003 09:19 AM (GMT)
I met her at a Kula Shaker gig cos she saw me 'Silver Sun' top.
At ULU I met her after at Goodge St.
If she ain't been on in a few years then I won't hold me breath
Yea, Cheers for that
:)

Welcome to the boards!
Yeah, there's been no sign of the SilverSnail in quite some time but I imagine there's a good chance she'll be back once news of the bands return becomes more widely known..
Sounds like the gig is assured a pretty good turnout even if it's just the people who post on here and their friends!
Speaking of missing forum people.. whatever happened to Mr Dozy? <_<
Sweet G 24 - September 5, 2003 09:26 AM (GMT)
Yeap, pretty good turn out! For the forum community to get together etc
Mr Dozy, news to me.

The band used to have their official site at www.silversun.co.uk which was run by and paid for by Polydor - once the record label dropped them, the site died a short while after.
Polydor owned the domain name though.
This site's been running in various forms since 1999, it started as an unofficial one (called then "Ste's Silver Sun Site") - I bought the silver-sun.co.uk domain name about a year or so ago as this was basically the only silver sun site around so i wanted to make it easy for people to find.
Shortly after, James Broad managed to get the old official site's domain name as Polydors ownership of it expired and that now points here too.
This site is now the official site, i'm not sure whether it will remain that way once they get a new deal but it's fairly likely - probably depends in part on the record label and what their plans are though..

Interesting....Hmmmmm
Yea, I was on the various forms last year for awhile. Cos one/two of the members of Silver Sun had started another band?
There was a gig in the Underworld? In the summer of 2002? Is that right?
Can you disclose why 'SS' were dropped?
Or is it copy protected like my DVD's? :D

I'm not entirely sure myself why the band were dropped - the story i remember that went round at the time was that some other big record label bought out Polydor and dropped any band that hadn't sold a certain number of albums and silver sun were unfortunately one of those bands.
Whether that's true or not i really don't know..
JB started a sideline band up called The Names, which was later renamed "the bullets" and they recorded an album which was going to be released. They played one gig under the name of "the names" and a second was planned but cancelled due to the petrol shortages a year or two ago..
The band disbanded so JB could focus on Silver Sun - the album never came out, I think JB was planning on releasing it once Silver Sun had got a new album out to give it a bit more clout, I don't know whether that's still the plan or if it's now been scrapped altogether.
JB did say at one point though he thought it was a bit pointless as it was just basically "B Grade" silver sun..

Well a mystery it maybe.......though lets hope there here to stay :P B) :)
Wonder Why Silver Sun not carry on? Hmmmm, mins you in 1999 the scene of 'Indie' if you classify them as that was changing big time.
1997 was Indie finest year since its decline through the years.....
'SS' I class as Upbeat/Punky/Alternative & Brilliant! :P

I would imagine money was a major factor in them quitting for a while. If they're not making the money through album sales then they're reliant on record company support - which they lost at a crucial time. The two singles from the last album reached 20 and 26 in the charts - scarily this is obviously not enough.
Incidentally, talking about the site - is it going to be updated when the album comes out? By 'updated', I mean changed in theme, as the design reflects the first album at the minute...
Ste - September 5, 2003 12:02 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that's the plan - I'll probably keep the red/black design as i like the look of it but i'll be redoing the banner thing at the top - probably putting the new album cover on there or something, might rename the site too and just call it "the silver sun site" or even just "silver sun" or something like that.
I'd always gone for brighter colours cos of the bands summery happy sound but i quite like the way the black/dark red looks.
I'll be adding some stuff onto the red bar under the contact info on each of the sites pages too - maybe links to buy gig tickets and a link to buy the album once its out etc.. been keeping it free for just such things :D
Sweet G 24 - September 5, 2003 06:11 PM (GMT)
Yea, album sales these days eh?? Tis all about.
So much talent gone done: Cast, Mansun etc
I like the colours on this site! :D :D
petester - September 5, 2003 08:09 PM (GMT)
I like the colours too, and why do away with the "Lava" tag? I know they're more than one song, but it has been consistently voted the number one song in the top tens you used to run.
Ste - September 5, 2003 09:11 PM (GMT)
True.. i guess the name doesn't matter all that much either..
